I would think the auction price might have been a few thousand for this car. It sure cleaned up nice, but there was still some damage from years of abuse that even an expert detail won't fix. The seat, the roughed up plastic. But they will sure get a good price now.

When I worked for the DOT, we used diesel fuel to remove it from the head engineer's truck as well as our boots. Years later I found a substitute product called Citrol that does just as good, maybe better, and smells a lot better, like oranges.

I found it under the front passenger seat about 2 summers later. It looked and smelled like it had just been purchased. Now that is truly scary. Opening any of the doors in her van is a challenge. An empty water bottle, a random toy, someone's homework, fries, empty Wawa coffee cups, one never knows what will fall out. I am glad she doesn't smoke. I whole-heartedly agree, though I call it a 'near-restoration' at that point. When I get a used car (from owner) for myself, I end up taking half/or all the carpets out in a partial gutting & clean. I even take the inner door-panels off, to wash out the drizzle spills from cup-holders in the deep-dive for my car(s). Though I've found that a pressure washer often isn't needed; A hose left sitting in the sun for warm water spray rinsing, Dawn dish soap & ammonia mix in a pump sprayer for detergent, and a hand brush of your choice: Does wonders for everything short of moldy seat-belts.... And for that, a soak in oxy-clean overnight removes the last splotches completely

An option for detailers who don't want to use a pressure washer to get the muddy hatch jamb clean is to use a Tornador. It isn't as powerful as a pressure washer but it is more precise. Home detailers need a decent size air compressor to run one but I work at a dealership so it has plenty of power.
