Joe what an amazing ride and beautifully captured. Those roads get paved every year and every year rainfall, landslide and snow erodes most of it. So the BRO (border roads org) constantly keeps paving the eroded sections every year after monsoon. Its a constant battle against raw unpredictable nature. It's a geologically weaker and brittle mountain range due to it's younger age.

Hi Joe, wow isn’t India such a spectacular place to visit I always dreamt about going and riding the highest Road in the world and riding into the Taj Mahal where Lady Di used to be before she got murdered. Anyway keep up the good work. Absolutely love the videos sending it to a few of my mates that are into motorbikes. Unfortunately I lost my right leg above the knee in 2018 in a major truck accident, so won’t be riding in India soon. Cliff from Australia.

Thanks mate, I had seen people ride roads like this before and though I am not sure how I'd handle it (would it be nerve racking), but to my surprise it's no where near as bad as it might seem, it's literally just like riding any other dirt track. I was told camping can be hit and miss here, some epic spots some places hard to find a spot and that it is so cheap to say (some places are like $3USD) so to carry less gear and to fit the new boots into my luggage and still be under the limit I didn't bring the camping gear this time. It's always great to hear you enjoyed the episode. It was a great day on the bike.

Hi Joe. Congrats on another amazing series. I spent 3 weeks riding a RE Classic 500 around Ladakh in 2018 and loved it - best experience of my life - and I'm hoping to go back again in 2025 and do the Zanskar Valley, which I missed out on in 2018 because of poor weather. It looks like they've upgraded the roads and infrastructure a lot since I was there in 2018, and it looks like there are now 3 ways to get to Padum. Keep doing the drone shots and amazing photos. I hope you get to go to Hanle and Umling La - those places were off limits to me as a foreigner in 2018. I'm travelling to NZ in about 6 weeks time, so I watched all your Roam NZ eps and got some great trips - unfortunately the Rainbow Rd won't be open at that time of the year, but fingers crossed, weather permitting, I can do the Molesworth Station Rd and I've booked a camping spot for 1 night at French Pass. I have 2 questions: 1. When will you be putting Himalayan prints in your store?, and 2. Do you purchase travel insurance when you're riding overseas, and if so who do you use, have you ever had to make a claim, and were they easy to deal with. Thanks Ashley
@freewayproject2 ай бұрын
It's great to hear you are enjoying the series. When I was younger I thought of doing it on a RE Classic 500, that must have been over a decade (or maybe 2 haha) The place has changed, at time I felt like I had rocked up to the party as it was winding down. Don't get me wrong it is incredible amazing, just seems as you have seen it is probably less adventures as the stuff you see form back in the 1990's. Definitely worth going back to as there are actually a few more places opening up and still a lot of off road. You will see I manage to get to quiet spots. Once I get back I'll have time to get prints onto the store, if there are any you are interested in let me know and I can get the on there as I am not sure exactly what people want, I have been asked for print that I didn't think people would want so my judgment isn't always the best 😂 No I don't. Not sure if that helps

@@freewayproject Thx Joe. Regarding the photos, I would love to see some epic scenes with snow capped mountains and the bike in the foreground. No doubt you already have many of those in the pipeline. My other suggestions would be the beautifully colourful Buddhist monasteries, temples & Gompas and the monks that inhabit them. I have a couple of other questions if you don’t mind: Is it possible to still ride over Rhotang pass or is it closed to foreigners now? Have they relaxed the rule about foreigners buying prepaid SIMs in Ladakh? Thanks
@freewayproject2 ай бұрын
@@ashleymoore8 appar4ently they o let people go ver Rhotang pass if there is no landslides on it, but they limit the number to not many, not sure if they want to make people use the tunnel as I gather it was expensive so it wasn't a waste. i got a prepaid simcard sim before i let, worked until i got to Ladakh, so they still don't work up there.
@ashleymoore82 ай бұрын
@@freewayproject I heard that it was much easier to go over Rhotang if you try from the Sissu side. The permit and quota system is only in place if you try and traverse it from the Manali side. Not sure if that’s true or total BS

I wonder how you found this place.. it’s hidden and raw.. they still don’t have many facilities and some villages are far from each other like 10-20 km with population of 100 only.. its very beautiful place at the border of Tibet-China.. ❤️❤️❤️ Spit’s has my heart and would like to go there in winter next time… ❤️❤️

Hello Joe! I would swear that I commented on your first India video but I cannot seem to find it. So bear with me if I repeat myself. I have been looking to doing a similar trip for two years now, since returning from my Across-Canada adventure. Recently I have been looking at some organised tours for the Himalayas. So your series will be an eye-opener as to what to expect. I have one issue with actually booking a 15-day tour (or going it alone): I have a fear of heights. In this most recent video I saw where you passed through some roads that were etched from the sides of mountains! Even sitting in my comfy sofa in my living room and I was ANTSY! (to say the least!). I am looking into therapy to overcome my height phobia and recently they are doing virtual reality therapy which gets great results with as little as three sessions. Anywhooo, I continue to be amazed by the quality of your work. It is a REAL PLEASURE to watch each and every one of your videos, whichever the series. I keep promoting your videos to friends and acquaintances since you deserve all the followers that you can get. You’re not far now from your KZbin 25K plaque!!! A big THANK YOU! (P.S.: I sent you some $ support via your website which I am sure will come in handy). Cheers mate!

Hey mate, no the other message did not make it through. Thank you for the continued support it is greatly appreciated. The second episode was not on the main route and is basically a side track you don't go on it to get up to Leh ( a lot of people fly directly into Leh but I think they miss some of the best parts as the ride from Manali to Leh is amazing too). There is another side track to the right after exiting Manali which is called the Spiti Valley which from memory has shoulders on the side of the road. In saying that before hand I had seen footage of people riding on roads like these and I was not sure how I would feel on them but it does look worse than it is, I didn't notice the cliff edge while riding, it was like riding on any other single lane dirt road, granted I don't have a fear of heights, i mean I won't stand near the edge so there is I guess a little bit of fear. Another thing that might help is at the end of the series I am going to a video on my experience as a first timer there and things to know, that might help with your decision. I hope that helps.

Really cool adventure. I think this bike will be a big upgrade to you, just with a more aggressive tires and a good set of fog lights, this will be great adventure bike. Keep exploring and can't wait for the next episode. Big hug brother.

Yes riding into these mountains and valleys not knowing what to expect or if I can get through is a fun adventure. Yes the bike is more capable, not quite to the level of my dirt bike off road but getting a lot closer. The suspension is the biggest change on it, so much more control at speed through the rough stuff.
