This is about Matty Healy, lead singer for The 1975. The story goes that they first met and had a flirtation back in the 1989 era but he had a heroin problem at the time and her people pretty much nixed the idea of a relationship because it would have destroyed her image which was still very all American good girl at the time, hence it being "forbidden". But they stayed in contact over the years and when Taylor and Joe Alwyn broke up after 6 years in spring of 2023 right as The Eras Tour was starting, she had a very fast and intense rebound relationship with Matty that summer of 2023. So "rusting my sparkling summer" is referring to ruining The Eras Tour for her. It seems like there had been a lot of talk over the years and during their short relationship about being soul mates/destined to be, he made a lot of insinuations and promises of marriage and forever, and then just ghosted her very quickly. The theory is that many of the songs on TTPD are about Matty and this relationship that took off fast and burned out fast. The performance of this during The Eras Tour is amazing, you should watch the whole TTPD set!

Listen to the intro of “looking for someone (to love)” and then the intro of “imgonnagetyouback.” Also listen to “fallingforyou” and how it mentions the bike she references in “imgonnagetyouback.” I am convinced the whole reason she decided to title her 1989 album that way, was as a shout out to the 1975 (she already knew Matty at the time). If you’ve already heart Fortnight - “you smoked then ate 7 bars of chocolate” is her saying he got high then did a good job (“ate”) at singing the 1975 song, Chocolate. Thanks for your reaction Cliff. Swifty and Renegade here, even though Taylor might not sing the type of music you listen to, I appreciate the fact that you give it a honest and respectful listen! I just watched a reactor who was listening to a Ren song and they trashed Taylor in their intro for no reason. I checked out his other reactions to see if he even has reacted to any of her songs and not once had he reacted to Taylor. It is those kinds of people that swifties get upset with cause Taylor gets so much unnecessary hate! We do not expect you to like every song or even listen to her music in your own time but if you give her a chance and respectfully listen to her body of work you will see why she has a following like Ren. You will see her lyricism and ability paint a picture and move people with her lyrics and how genuine and caring a person she is like Ren! Matty love bombed and future faked her. they were attracted to each other over the years and got together briefly at the start of her Eras tour (in Florida) Joe wouldn’t marry her after 6 years and hated the spotlight.

This album, TTPD came out in the beginning of this year, I believe. She said she wrote this album during a very chaotic time and chaotic emotions. She realized a lot of injuries were self inflicted. During parts of the album she is making fun of herself for acting immature. She sings about her "teenage petulance" coming out and growing up precocious. Most of this album + the anthology, total 31 songs were written while she was/is still on her tour.
