I loved her gut instinct on the colors despite not knowing why she didn't like them. I also love how she gravitated towards colors she didn't even like for the same reason. This was fun to watch and learn right alongside. 💗🥰💯

So true. Many people instinctively know the colours that work for them but they don't know why or how to broaden the range of colours they have. Always trust your gut! :)

Great example of a not so obvious at first glance, soft summer! If i may, as a soft summer myself, i was a bit suprised by the coupons which i find a bit intense, especially the pink. (And was confused by this brown) I feel like old grey pink, sea glass green, oat and charcoal really reveal a soft summer the best ;) Thank you so much for your thorough videos.

Clicked on this for validation, as she and I are color twins...sure enough! I would add that more muted colors would have suited her even more. We are drawn to pinkish corals, but muted / teals, but muted / soft reds, with just a touch of rusty tone / grayed blues, etc.

Interesting! Softness but a medium contrast between the deep ashy hair and the light skin which rule out lighter colours. I might have a similar combo but stronger! Those sagey greens, teals and cerulean blues are so beautiful on her!

The differentiation between every day colours and occasional, smarter, colours was useful. I wear softer greens, aquas, blues for casual wear but prefer navy or black with stronger colours for smarter.

I liked this analysis. I believe I am also a soft summer (deep?), but I have a little more depth to my coloring (dark hazel olive eyes and an ashy medium-dark brown hair, now with some silver-gray tones), which showed slight auburn tones when I was younger. I think my skin tone is neutral-cool. I dip into some cool summer (even some winter) and soft autumn (some deep too) colors as long as they aren’t too light, warm, bright, or dull.

That was a good one, but also a bit tough. I felt that soft summer was the better choice although I could easily see she dips into autumn or soft autumn and totally agree she can borrow some of the colors. At first I was in belief she would be more of an autumn but orange was not so good on her.

Her enthusiasm around 11:00 I totally get. Even thought I am clear dominant, I will sometimes choose colors that are a bit softer, like oatmeal, peach or soft white, just because of my personality and lifestyle. (outdoorsy person) There are colors we just love but are not always our absolute best, in the technical sense. When you put up all the soft colors on her there was no denying which brought out her beautiful features the best. Saying that, if this was a game show I would go home with no prize! I honestly could not tell which was best when you were doing one drape at a time. LOL That is why it pays to see a professional. :)

Excellent job! I think you typed her right, but there are so so many more subtle colors within soft summer that I think would’ve suited her far better. I know there are not endless swatches, but I think she would’ve been instantly more convinced with a few more greyed out green, purple, blue and pink colors. Soft summer colors are mysterious, and I’d love to see at the end of typing, another 5-10 swatches within the palette against a client. But I get that it’s money! 😊 ❤❤ It’s also been helpful to me to understand “softness” to mean there is more “grey”, not just less color.

I feel like this is a lot like me when it comes to orange. I'm a pale olive skin tone and so is my mom. She always said we dont look good in orange, but my husbands family loves me in orange or salmon type of colors its possible its because I look "tan" in them. Which I like wearing orange too but I'm not sure if it actually looks good on me.

I love these videos. I have a friend who has green eyes and dark brown hair (I know both of which don't determine the season), but I keep wondering what season she might be. All we know for sure is that she's cool, since warm colors wash her out, and the cool colors really make her skin brighter and make her look harmonious and glow. I'm thinking she's between soft and light summer somewhere. She can wear some warmer colors but only if they are muted, so that might be an indication of soft summer as well. Of course there's no way to tell without doing a proper & professional color analysis, but these videos are helpful in terms of getting a rough idea of what to pay attention to :)

Great video! I'm just curious, do you know why Summer is categorized as a cool season and Spring as warm? In terms of weather and light, I always think of Summer as hot and warm, and Spring as cooler so it's hard for me to remember with color analysis that Summer is a cool season!
@flooferdoofer
@flooferdoofer Жыл бұрын
It was taught to me that the seasons are like that because they represent the flowers of spring bursting in bloom (bright and vibrant), and visiting the ocean breeze in the summer (lots of watery blues and pastel sunsets). Autumn looks like the leaves turning colours and cozy blankets, while in winter everything looks dark and crisp against the white snow. Power of association, but that is different per person of course :) I can see why you would use actual temperatures to differentiate between warm and cold seasons
@sarahryanthestylecoach
@sarahryanthestylecoach Жыл бұрын
Yes, it's not really anything to do with the temperature of the actual seasons and more about what you see in the environment at different points of the year :)

FlooferDoofer provides a wonderful poetic explanation, but the specific and dry answer to your question is that Suzanne Caygill created the seasonal grammar of the PCA (Personal Color Analysis) business in approximately 1942 known as the "Academy of Color." Caygill was a dress designer and milliner working in San Francisco when she realized that different individuals looked better in certain colors and that there were patterns to these preferences based on skin tones/undertones, hair color and eye color. More importantly, she realized that she could provide the service of color analysis to people as a business and eventually the entertainment industry. Fast forward after decades of different individuals joining in and growing the PCA business world, there is now a diverse worldwide collection of PCA businesses all with their own terminologies. But in most cases they use the fundamental grammar of the business created by Ms. Caygill. Ms. Caygill's lifetime of paperwork is housed at the Library of Cornell University. I know that there are historical documents which are titled "The Four Seasons." It would be interesting to find out if she ever explained in writing her reasons for creating this grammar of the four seasons. Behind this brief description of Ms Caygill's creation of the PCA business is the scientific side of modern day color theory. Color is PHYSICS. Which basically means color is complex math. Modern day color theory and mathematical color systems are based on the lifetime work of Albert H Munsell (American, 1858-1918.) This is a definitive mathematical system used pervasively in just about everything today. The application of science to color and the beginnings of color theory date back to the physicist Newton (British, 1642-1727.) von Goethe (German, 1749-1832) argues some issues and plays his part. By the late 19th century/early 20th century you have both Munsell and Itten (Swiss, 1888-1967) further defining the science of color theory. To me one of the most important aspects of color theory is Simultaneous Contrast. It is basically the idea that two or more colors sitting next to each other alter each of the other colors. Again, this is hardcore physics/math dealing with the wavelengths of light and of course the biological abilities of the human eye. In large measure it is simultaneous contrast that impacts PCA and what we see on individuals. Cheers!

I am glad you did this video. Way too long we did seasons on lighter people and not ethnic groups or people of color. As such it is hard to imagine "summers" or "springs" (light value seasons) with very dark hair. I would have guessed deep winter on her before you did her draping and wouldn't have thought summer at all and especially not soft summer. And yet I agreed 💯 every step of the way as you draped her. As we see more and more diversity in the world it opens up who ends up where in the seasons. We need to open up with it. Stereotypes need to go bye bye.
