The cinematic snippet at the beginning was especially satisfying. The studios no longer care for us fans; we simply want a great story with exciting scenes of ships flying in the sky and in space. They refuse to cater to our simple needs. But what you have done here rekindles that excitement we have been missing for so long. Again, great work my friend. Keep going!! V

On the other hand, having something like this shown in what amounts to a throwaway background element -- as unlikely as I think it would be for Disney to be interested in devoting that amount of work to something that didn't integrate tightly into the storyline -- would greatly increase the feeling of the universe as being more than just a picture frame the main characters pose in front of. That was one of the things that made ANH stand out -- the background elements were given almost as much consideration as the foreground elements, and you can see a steady dribble away of the importance of the backgrounds with each succeeding movie, with re-used and re-dressed props from earlier movies stood in for what should more properly have been their own designs.

You could also look at that weapons pod as an earlier incarnation of the weapons pod that got used on the LAAT/i employed by the clone troopers -- it was an option for the ZT-800, and after field use showed that it had some issues with arc-of-fire limitations, the design with the pod hung completely off the side of the vehicle was adopted for the LAAT/i purely to maximize its arc of fire.

My armchair take is "how does it fly?" "What's it's profile when maneuvering against an opponent?" "If it's a hauler, was it even actually designed for combat, or is most of it's combat capabilities coming from after market modding..." Flat, but maneuverable, the front profile is a thin rectangle...So if you're sitting face on or broadside to enemy fire you're presenting the smallest profiles this ship offers...**shrug**...even running away has the thinnest profile this ship offers.

HOLY.... ok, bud, you have made my morning! I have been looking at a lot of Star Wars ship designs lately preparatory to playing a tabletop rpg online with my friends and family, so I guess the matrix decided I needed this video. It was right for once, how about that? You can see below how blown away fans are by this work. It's the time and attention you've put into it. I will be rewatching this and making myself sit on all my ideas (not only am I not an engineer, I'm not a good modeler so I have to get others to refine my work if I need it looking nice). However, as someone who often makes up lore for items, ships, species, etc., you did cover a couple of points yourself. For one thing, this is an older design without the sleek lines of newer models, because it is a work-craft. CEC, maker of the YT-1300 the MF was based on (in lore, actually real world worked backward since a LOT of players wanted something that looked like the falcon, so figuring out what it was built from let them mess about making their own technological terrors to annoy the empire with!), is known for modularity and ruggedness, and you could say that this design complies with that. The unusually large maneuvering thrusters could be a side-effect of age, but also the need to keep huge containers, ships, parts of ships, etc. moving in tight order to avoid accidents and damage. The engine setup was something more seen with the YT and later series, but that series goes back a ways too. Too, maybe someone wants the MK II to be a later reuse, with updated tech but the same reliability as the older ones. Everyone's TT rpg canon goes differently at times. As for me, since I don't use 3D models yet (and got hacked recently, still trying to get some of that money back) I won't be buying the model just yet, hopefully I can in the future just to support you and your work. If I do drop one into a personal role-playing game, I will be sure the players know where it came from and get a link to this video (Note, I am talking about a personal table-top game where we all make stuff up, nothing is published or charged for, and we do not own the rights to systems we use in any case. No images or animations involved, unless they want to stop the game to watch the beginning of your video.). Ok, I think I've been verbose enough, but do let me say this: THANK YOU. For running with this inspiration, all the work you've put into it, and, especially, sharing it with all the other Star Wars fans. It is much appreciated. My .02 credits on the subject. 👍

First of all really nice model. Secondly, I'm Italian and the language isn't perfectly clear to me so I apologize for any errors. Looking at the design of the ship I saw that you mentioned the fact that for some people the secondary weapon under the pilot area seemed strange. (around minute 19.45) Honestly, I don't think it's strange, in fact in a real situation it solves a very serious problem that otherwise would exist: The cannons on the right side cannot fire effectively towards the left because they have the entire ship in the middle which projects a "cone of shadow". " and having a weapon in that position and in that way should be able to cover precisely those situations of an approach from the left. For firing in front there are already main batteries.

Amazing work, thanks so much for sharing your design thinking and the various decisions affecting the shape, balance, function etc. This kind of description is missing in similar channels as yours and it can be so valuable and educational. I love the 'greebling" and the texturing in Blender, following specific design and/or engineering ideas, it looks so "realistic" for the Star Wars universe. Totally agree about the engine compartment being 'full of engine parts' rather than storage rooms etc, it makes much more sense. I also loved the double cockpit module with the options for an escape pod or additional armament, very smart. My favourite design feature though must be the angled offset manoeuvring thrusters - this is brilliant! I always thought that manoeuvring thrusters (even tiny ones like in real spaceships) are sorely missing in Star Wars ships designs. Maybe this is because of he original ILM and George Lucas approach of making SW ships fly like WW2 aircraft, with only backwards facing thrusters - which over the years we came to accept as 'normal', even in space. So I think SW ships with side-thrusters and even forward-facing thrusters (for decelerating after a long run or when exiting hyper-space) are a major design improvement and would make sci-fi ships so much more 'realistic' and believable. I would even prefer it, if you had included another set of forward-facing angled thrusters (so 8 in total), for even more manoeuvrability. Design-wise it would look a bit clumsy and maybe not so pretty, but from an engineering point of view it could be even more 'realistic' 🙂🙂. Thanks again, please have more videos like this one if possible.

This is a wonderful concept and I would love to see it incorporated into the Star Wars universe! I have a few questions after watching your video and explanations. My first question is about the offset housing for the main gun turrets. Do you consider them to be manned turrets? If so, why did you place them so far from the center, which takes some time to be able to defend. Assuming all crew members are on the bridge, if an emergency occurs, it takes too much time to recognize the emergency, jump up from one's seat or perhaps climb up from the lower area under the bridge, run to the main gun turrets, climb in and ready them. So I imagine that you have designed the turrets as remote-controlled guns that are operated from the bridge. The second question refers to the stated crew of 3. The YT-1300 already required a crew of 5 to operate efficiently. This includes a pilot, a co-pilot, 2 gunners and an engineer. Shouldn't the crew of the ZT-800 be at least 6 people? In other words, a pilot, a co-pilot, 2 or 3 gunners and at least 2 engineers?
@technouveau_art2 күн бұрын

It would be such an easy fanservice to show regular old Millennium Falcon but hauling containers like "it is meant to". Just using this concept could be a great story hook for an entire movie. Han Solo repurposed Falcon to be as light and as fast as possible so it essentially lost the function to haul cargo. Imagine if he saw his ship after loosing it and being used "as it should" and reacting: "What have they done to you?". After reclaiming Falcon we could see how he tries to fix it and bring back it's former glory.

Little bit of fan service is not bad, ships being thousand years old makes me want to know more is this for rouge squadrons ? I'm not too into nostalgia but I do like un semetrical ships, they are more attractive from this universe, still kinda cargo looking...
@axelhopfinger53310 сағат бұрын
Pretty nice. I like the heavy duty look. Only gripe i have with this design is the same with most other YT ships: for actual transports, they lack any sufficiently dimensioned interior cargo bays. Also as flat as they are, they're effectively just single level interior. Making them a little higher for a second deck would add so much more usable interior space which could be used for cargo or crew facilities. And long range haulers do need a bit more roomy interior facilities and perhaps passenger accomodations, since even hyperspace travel can take quite a while. Days or even weeks. Also, instead of a double cockpit, how about a cockpit on an articulated (rotating) boom which can be raised above the fuselage or below it (for better view while flying/landing)? Because having the right side of the cockpit canopy effectively blocked by the ship hull means a massive and unnecessary blind spot for the pilot. At least you mounted your cockpit high enough so there's a somewhat clear view over the front mandibles.
@technouveau_art9 сағат бұрын
@@axelhopfinger533 I don’t think interior storage is particularly credible. I like the idea of these being tugs first and foremost
@axelhopfinger5339 сағат бұрын
@@technouveau_art Fair enough. It's just that all those YT ships are always classified as freighters or light transports instead of tug boats. Makes me wonder why they never made actual freighters with some interior cargo capacity? I mean, all it takes for a usable light transport would be cargo bays the size of two or three standard shipping containers. Think you could fit those into your design somehow? Maybe add a smaller upper deck structure for crew quarters, leaving the lower section almost entirely for cargo bays. At least that's how i would do it. Of course, then you'd have to relocate the gun turrets or extend them, because the upper deck structure would block much of their effective firing arc.

New to the channel - Love the work you put into the piece - look forward to perusing your videos 😊 😅Suggestion from someone who is just able to do stick figures on paper: I love the thought of the mandible having a functional use. If you ever decide to explore this feature further, then perhaps consider switching from stacked cylinders in a push configuration, to perhaps having the mandibles locking into a V-shaped superstructure on top of a single container, or barge with multiple smaller containers - essentially in a pull configuration underneath under the ship (like a remora fish). The beefy landing gear could perhaps lock in clamps or magnetically - essentially landing on top to further secure the bond. (more tanky - perhaps the shields can protect the cargo) Inspiration for a barge could be drawn from miniturizing the ”class four container transport” seen in Star Wars rebels. The old school boxy cargo containers from the x-wing/tie fighter games of old, like ”Class-J cargo container” or ”Class-A cargo container” might be a nice nod to old legends stuff.

secondary thrusters mounted to a ring on the airlock would be cool.

is there a actual physical model of this thing in a studio? or is it all digital?

you should have come up with a blueprint of the ship man not just the outside of it, looks cool though.

I like it for the most part. I'd give it a centralized cockpit, like the later YT series (1930, 2000, 2400) and have more symmetrical gun emplacements. In fact, I'd love to see a "smuggler custom" version like this, with double gun emplacements on the port side, a centralized YT-2400 cockpit, 2 cargo grapplers (1 to either side of the cockpit), two more dorsal/ventral gun positions aft, and 2 heavy guns mounted in the tips of the mandibles (twin light turbolasers). The heavy cargo magnetic field projectors are replaced with power amplifiers for the heavy guns, upgraded shields, and upgraded sensors.

"mandibles" thing on falcon were just a slot for a detachable cargo module. so your design should have like four slots for cargo modules

On the YT1300 those horizontal circular ports are escape pods, not docking ports. The Falcon docks ventrally to the Nebulon B at the end of ESB using the dorsal docking port that doubles as an EVA hatch. I still love this design, and want one.

@@stainlesssteelfox1 Yeah I recalæ the scene. No way they are escape pods. Well that throws a spnner in the works ;)

I forgive your being a not-so-good-speaker..(I can't see myself doing better ), because you're clearly an awesome designer-!! I myself, already imagined "THE MELENIUM PHOENIX" with basically the mostly the same everything..except the command station has a twin simetrically placed...operated by pirate lady and her wife.. telepathically linked in both sides. Love beast you have constructed. Keep up the good work.
