I'm happy to say that, as a Brazilian, Logan had an even more special touch to it. When the movie came out, Isaac Bardavid, the legendary voice actor who played Wolverine and many other iconic characters throughout his career such as Tigger, Obi Wan Kenobi, He-man's Skeleton and many others, was retiring, and it was his last movie as Wolverine's voice. At that same time, when Hugh Jackman came to Brazil to talk about Logan on a talk show, the host also brought in Isaac, who thanked Hugh for basically helping him survive for over 17 years in his profession. They both got really emotional. Isaac was 90 years old when he passed away earlier this week, and will always be loved by the Brazilian dubbing fans. Absolute legend. RIP Isaac and🖤

From many comic runs: 1.Creator of Sabretooth, Chris Clearemont, had originally written Sabretooth as Wolverine's dad. Over the years they have been written as either father and son, brothers, Wolvie was also Sabretooth's father, but mostly they aren't related at all. They may share ancestry from homo lupus species, along with characters such as Wolfsbane, Wild Child, Romulus (original) and so on. 2.Sabretooth told Wolverine that the reason Wolvie has memory losses is because his brain heals itself from emotional and psychological trauma in same way he would heal from physical injuries. 3.The reason Sabretooth and Wolverine don't know each other in first movie is kinda explained in a comic that serves as a spinoff set after first movie and before second. It also explains why Sabretooth isn't in the second one. That one shot was somewhat wholesome and then sad. 4.Ryan Reynolds warned the director for his dumb approach to Deadpool's design in Origins, that the audiences wouldn't like it. Director said nah. Ryan died on the inside.
@Niobesnuppa2 жыл бұрын
Comicbook canon is all over the place, for sure. That still doesn't explain how the Sabretooth in Origins spontaniously became blonde and grew about a foot taller between then and the first X-Men movie, though. The two actors look absolutely nothing like each other.
@dogalrorn2 жыл бұрын
@@Niobesnuppa Ironically Tyler Mane said he understood that Hugh Jackman and Liev Schreiber looked more like bothers than him and Jackman, and that the audience might see them being blood related due to them sharing similar height/looks, but that is his opinion, not mine. Brothers don't have to resemble each other just because they're related, and the two have same father. Your bigger concern should be other things, such as why are they step-brothers in the first place (lame af, made sense for dramatic storytelling for one movie just to be forgotten later) and why didn't Sabretooth, Wolverine's meanest, baddest and most well known nemesis, appear more often in cinematic features. He was supposed to be in Logan. He was, however, only briefly mentioned in one deleted scene. Inconsistency much? No idea how to handle a character with one of the worst characterizations through comic book runs? Hard to make a character that is originally a blood thirsty psychopathic rapist murderer likeable for broader audiences.
@shannyn74044 ай бұрын
The idea that Wolvie has memory loss because his healing factor heals his emotional and psychological trauma the same way it heals his physical injuries is such an interesting concept. Also a really cool way to get the message across that mental health is just as important as physical health. Super cool, wish they used that in the movies.

Logan fighting a younger, feral version of himself is NOT an ERJB. He is literally battling his past as a human weapon, his past trauma and the very personification of how violent his life was. The funniest thing, that IS what James Mangold, the director, wanted to do. His “thesis” of the film was “what is Wolverine most afraid of?”, and he figured it be two things: love from a family, and himself. In Logan, he accepts the love he gets from Charles and Laura, and also literally tries to kill his past self, during his time as Weapon X. Pretty cool stuff IMO.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine was actually more or less an experiment to launch an anthology series for each mutant. They originally were going to give the first one to Magneto, but after seeing Wolverines popularity skyrocket after the initial X-Men trilogy, they opted to use him instead. It avoids the same-ness of the MCU in that regard. You should do the live action Batman-films next, especially since the new one is coming out in two weeks. I think it's also worth noting that in X-Men Origins, the woman Stryker employed to seduce Logan has the power to convince people (or maybe just men) to do anything she wants just by touching them, the effect doesn't end until long after she has touched them, and they don't think they've been brainwashed so it also seems to convince them of what they're doing too. So, instead of this whole plot, instead of even kidnapping Logan, they could have just had her touch him and convince him to consent to the surgery. Her power is literally to make men do whatever she wants, and the whole plot is about a trick to make Logan do what they want, and she is used in that plot, but her power NEVER comes up in the context of making him do what they want!

No matter how many of the X-men movies you personally like/tolerate, you can’t escape from how utterly broken the film series is as a whole; you have to ignore like more or less half of them for things to even start being sensible and alright. Hopefully the future for the X-men franchise is a bit more concise. No wonder nobody cared(in a negative light) that pretty much all of the X-Men were prematurely dead by Logan, asides from the fact that the movie was so phenomenal, because by that point the state of the continuity and franchise made it hard to be too upset about that; kind of like the opposite of the sequel trilogy. 38:19 Cosmonaut obviously isn’t dissing Logan, it’s just that this movie was a satisfying conclusion when ignoring certain entries.
@ashb72 жыл бұрын
The only characters people really cared about throughout the franchise were Xavier, Magneto and Logan, and Magneto's mostly cause of McKellen and Fassbender since his characterisation was alllll over the place. The movies did pretty much every other X-Man dirty, especially Cyclops (holy shit I want a comics accurate Cyclops so bad after how criminally these movies wasted him). The two Deadpool movies were somehow far more faithful to the comics than literally any of the FoX-Men movies were, even the good ones.

I'm not a big fan of Jean showing up again, the idea that Logan was a fish out of water type character and doesn't know Japanese was stupid, and that ending are big negatives, but overall I loved the story! Heck, I even think the romance they had going was great too! That's why I'm kind of peeved with Days of Future Past. It basically undid all of that. Origins...is terrible, but I admit it's a guilty pleasure. I know it's bad, but I don't mind watching it from time to time. Plus, I'll just say it...I actually like some of the concepts. Particularly the one where Sabertooth and Logan are brothers. I dunno, it just makes more sense to me than just these two random mutants hating each other. As for why Sabertooth didn't recognize Logan in X-Men 1...Well, the fan theory is he mutated so far that he basically lost himself to his more "animalistic" side. And finally, I know it's all taste related, but personally I thought Deadpool 2 was fine. I really didn't need anything new to be done with the movie. I just wanted more of the same as the first one, and I'd say I got what I wanted! But those are just my thoughts. Great video, Marcus!

I was always of the opposite opinion. I always found the first film is still funny and started off strong, but I also feel it was constrained by the idea of him thinking he was too ugly for his girl and having that take up so much of his motivation on the last half was a bit of a stifle on what should have stayed more oddball. I mean hell, the fact that they talked about fucked up stuff so casually early on for their meet cute, it's hard to believe she wouldn't accept him so that always felt a bit odd for me. I enjoyed how the 2nd just went more oddball with the concept proper. Think it's actually funnier than the first, but that's just me. And Dopiner's development never fails to make me smile.
@missyllaineous2 жыл бұрын
@@motherplayer I agree with that to some extent, although I like the idea that it was more Wade struggling to accept his new self and projecting his feelings onto Vanessa in the first one. The best way I have to explain it is that the quality of the second film feels a bit too clean and sharp. You can really tell they had a bigger budget like Marcus said, and I think it took some of the charm away. Plus, for me, the scenes where Wade betrays the xmen to kill that dude, and the scenes where Wade learns about Cable's backstory come off too awkward to be funny or heartfelt. I agree there's lots to love in the sequel (dopinder, domino, and yukio are all amazing i think), so I respect that you and others prefer it.
@jaycue76412 жыл бұрын
I get what you mean, but I really enjoyed both movies so much I can't say which one is better. The first one had a constrained budget to be certain at only 50 million for a superhero movie. But it forced the writers to be creative. And it allowed Ryan Reynolds to chew the Hell out of the scenery and just BE Deadpool which is what we all wanted anyways. Hell, about half of the movie takes place on that one bridge scene and nobody even noticed because Ryan WAS freaking Deadpool. And him just having straight laced Colossus and edgelord NTWH there to play off of was really all he needed to be entertaining. The second movie was just as funny, and killing Vanessa at the beginning was risky and I like movies that take risks. Maybe a few too many characters, but no real complaints from me. Can't wait for the third movie.

I think deadpool 1 and 2 genuinely have some of the best coreography and fight scenes of the francise. Plus the humour mostly works for me, it's a matter of taste. I would have given them a 7/7 and a half. Aside from that's a pretty good list

I went to the press junket for Logan in 2017, and learned from some insiders that The New Mutants was originally set in the Logan timeline before studio-mandated reshoots and retooling, Rosario Dawson was originally up for the role of the doctor/psychiatrist character and X-23 was supposed to join The New Mutants team in a follow-up, or at least appear in a future film to some extent. Also, Patrick Stewart was rocking a dapper suit with socks featuring pixel art skull and crossbones lol

I think Logan is unquestionably the best movie of the franchise, but my favorite film is still Days of Future Past. I think it does time travel so well, while it also incorporates the X-men powers in perfectly with the concept - like when Xavier uses his telekinesis to talk to his future self through Logan's subconscious. It also had the full cast with both Xs and Magnetos at their top game. It was like watching the X-men version of Infinity War. Also their version of the Sentinel's even surpassed the Sentinel's from the comics/cartoon in terms of being an effective villain and threat.

Logan, Deadpool and Deadpool 2 are three of my favorite movies, very strange how sloppy and unfocused some of the other movies are. Weird having awesome movies in the same franchise with these hot messes.

I'm so glad to see a current film reviewer give accolades to Logan. IMO it's one of the best superhero movies ever made (Dark Knight, Spiderverse, and Infinity War are the only ones I see competing with it), and also just one of the best movies of the past decade altogether. I adore this film and considered it the perfect sendoff to a series I grew up with for a good portion of my childhood.

I remember watching most of the X Men movies as they came out, only skipping Dark Phoenix and new mutants, I love the varying degrees of quality between them you never knew whether the movie would be good or bad. The Wolverine is always that X Men movie I remember enjoying enough, but I constantly forget about it. Also I've been thinking the same thing w/ the X-Men in the MCU. I think they have enough money and experience w/ this whole multiverse thing to make it believable for general audiences. And lastly I completely forgot New Mutants was made 😂.

Logan was an amazing movie, not because it was another X-Men movie but because it was an ending. It end capped Wolverine's story. X-23 got shafted by not returning to reprise her role, but the movie was well done. So well done, Ryan Reynolds addressed it in Deadpool 2. It's a bittersweet thing : the pinnacle of the series also includes the death of the focus character. Logan was nice.

Apperantly, the second Deadpool movie was supposed to have the same director as the first movie, buuuuut Ryan himself vetoed Tim Miller's ideas and he clearly was more in charge, so we get a second movie that's more jokier and bloodier, but also sort of plays itself safe, but the action scenes are great cause he got the guy behind John Wick to direct it. Heck, Ryan even wrote a bit of it, similar to how Paul Rudd writes a bit on the Ant-Man movies.

At this point, I like to believe that the X-Men movies take place in different universes. From the original trilogy the story goes to The Wolverine and Days of Future Past, film that's not only about time travel but also about alternate realities: Wolverine goes to the world from First Class, changing the present by combining universes, and since then, every X-Men prequel take place in a different universe (the same happens to Origins: Wolverine and Logan). That's why nearly 60 year olds look like young adults in 2018 (if the team members were teenagers in 1983, they must have been born in late 1960s, and let's not talk about Quicksilver, the 70 year old kid), because in Deadpool 2's timeline they were born in late 90s. Too elaborate and confusing, but that's the saga, although I like the movie line-up of Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Beast, Storm, Nightcrawler and Quicksilver. I haven't seen New Mutants, and I don't think I will.

I think the MCU will keep Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, and recast every single other person. At least, I hope they will. I don't want to see the same old characters mix and match, I want to see the MCU do something fresh. Start anew, and that means recasting everyone. I think they will have cameos from different multiverses pop up from time to time though.

New Mutants made me so sad. It had the potential to be a really cool movie and even worse is that it could mess up our chances of seeing more Majik on screen. Considering that she could have been a potential extra tie-in for X-Men in MCU through something like Multiverse of Madness...it's a real shame.

Yeah, I remember seeing a teaser for New Mutants at the premiere of Logan and thought the idea of an X-men horror movie sounded great. Then for years, it just dropped off the face of the earth until news leaked about troubled production, reshoots, etc. and by then, I had already lost interest but had a bad feeling it was going to be terrible anyway and the fact that it was dumped straight to HBO Max did help me to dissuade that feeling.
