I don't know if anyone has pointed this out but I'm pretty sure the reason that there's so much licensed music in this movie is because whoever did the soundtrack saw Guardians of the Galaxy and didn't realize that the music was being used in a meaningful way. It's like they just heard a bunch of the hit songs and were like "Oh, shit! This movie is good because of all the sick tunes bro".

It’s been well documented that after the success of the initial trailer (which played Bohemian Rhapsody) and after the poor response to BvS, WB tried to mold Suicide Squad (which was already well into post-production) into something that would more closely resemble Guardians of the Galaxy and Deadpool. WB even got a trailer company to edit the finished movie.

@@3n3my33 My personal headcanon for the DCEU is that the Crowbar Incident (TM) was the tipping point for Harley's motivation to split up with the Joker because she genuinely felt remorseful for her part in Robin's death (she probably assumed Joker was just gonna take the kid hostage and/or scare him a little bit), and the reason why she makes such a big deal about refusing to kill kids in all of her future appearances is because of the guilt and trauma she has about that moment. You say "that's just how she is to a weird degree" despite her never having this as a character trait in any other adaptation before this one. I don't care if they wanted her to have this trait for the movies or even continuing on in her overall character outside of them but to have that kind of cognitive dissonance of a child murderer shaming another child murderer for murdering a child is utterly ridiculous. @@RodrickMarsMoon the reason why is that they are adaptations of different mediums, LotR is as closed to the BOOK as it can be in a film, however the Avengers are comics, and how did they started? A character we've barely seen, has hardly done anything except act as a sort of "sixth ranger" to the group, with only a single flashback and some words said about her making up her characterization, gets a serious heart-to-heart with a sword, while the "lead" character (Flagg) informs us that her dead husband's soul is trapped inside the sword, in some weird attempt to make the audience give a shit -- and then Boomerang makes an ill-timed joke about "know(ing) what they say about the crazy ones.," and the whole scene just falls flat.

I believe I watched this in the theater with my family, and afterward we were all just kind of like.. confused about how bad it managed to be? I remember after like the first 30 minutes of licensed song after licensed song I just wanted it to stop doing songs, and it didn't make you care about a single character. The only two characters that were at all memorable were Harley (in a good way, because Margot did a great job) and Joker (in a bad way, because of so, so many reasons). I think on my first watch, I kind of liked Deadshot, but when I look back on it, he was also super generic and boring, especially considering he's supposed to be a top-tier mercenary?? With a family? And they basically didn't involve those details in his characterization at all, he was just Will Smith but really good at shooting things.
@sebastian24563 жыл бұрын
Just a small correction but the reason that Deadshot says "If Flag dies we die" is because Amanda Waller states that she will kill everybody if anything happens to colonel Flag since she also has control of the detonators.
@stijnvdv23 жыл бұрын
Well there is a big correction here..... the comic superhero movies ain't the only thing that's failing in Hollywood. 99% of Hollywood is utter woke unwatchable garbage with all your familiar 'destruction of the Caucasian male protagonist', 'ID/diversity politics', 'storyline is a background thing with many plot holes and doesn't make sense at all', 'Mary Sues' etc. etc. Like the last movie I've seen that is watchable and advisable has been from 5+ years ago. YTers are already jumping for joy if something comes out that is at least dumb entertainment on it's basic level and NOT woke garbage; which doesn't mean these movies are actually any good; these are the movies that Hollywood even 10 years ago would have thrown out because of the low standards of entertainment; and we've sunk so deep that those kind of movies are celebrated today because of all the total garbage Hollywood puts out. I wanted to watch a movie a few weeks back, spend 3 hours! and going through 2000 movies and NONE of them appealed enough for me to watch it. THAT is Hollywood 2021.

Apparently the original plan was for the Joker to be the main villain and, honestly, that would have worked better. Have Wallace's argument be "Batman has repeatedly failed to catch this murderous criminal, let's make these super-powered criminals catch him. If they die, oh well." It would justify Harley being there, because she's bait. The original movie also apparently focused more on how abusive her relationship with the Joker was, and that could still work. Have her time with the squad help her grow from seeing Mistah J as her knight rescuing his true love to what it really is -- the Joker only bothering to save her because he's mad someone stole his favorite chew toy. You can even see shades if that in her intro in the movie itself. Joker was fine with escaping Batsy by driving off a pier and abandoning Harley to drown, ignoring her screams that she can't swim. Things go horribly wrong, the Joker evades capture but the squad stops his scheme, and Batman is all, "Yeah, this is why you leave the Joker to me," to Wallace. Cut out Enchantress (unnecessary) and the fire dude (too OP), so you have Killer Croc, Harley, Deadshot, and then Rick and Katana as handlers to keep an eye on them.

Harley is a fem fetal, not wanting to fuck men but killing them.. and Joker has nearly no sexual interest in any woman but is objectively insane. This pisses off Harely because he's one of the few men she can't just seduce and then kill or castrate.. so she is totally obsessed with him.

I normally don't care for overly negative critique, but your all of these notes are spot on. It is really hard to find any positives. I remember seeing it in the theaters and on the fist shot having unreadable text and the title being poorly revealed, not very readable, and on screen way to short of a time. That was the first shot, and one of the more important shots in the movie, and they edited it like they had never seen a opening title before in there life. How many people in the production saw this shot and said "yea, that will work." And it never got any better. I used raz the Transformers franchise as the most poorly written and edited block busters of a generation, but this is another level.
