Thank you, this was very insightful. I've been trying to figure out why I never feel able to be myself around people I'd considerered my friends. I never felt I would be accepted for who I truly am, but I also think it's because I dont accept myself either or don't quite know who I am separate from others.

Yes, I’m sure all of that is playing a part. People tend to think that authenticity should be natural and easy (I get comments like that on these videos sometimes), but I think it’s one of the hardest tasks we’re set in life 🖤

The point about bullies is spot! I've watched this video a couple of times already. The notion of bullies being victims has been a thought of mine for a while. The bullies must have experienced that behavior somewhere. It's a form of learned ruthlessness. Maybe even learned helplessness transformed.

Absolutely. We learn how to feel OK from our primary caregivers and other influences from a young age. If our parents only knew maladaptive coping strategies, then those will be what we model. These things can be changed later in life, but it takes work and requires support, empathy and education, much of which is inaccessible to many 😕

I had a similar reaction when I first landed on this mindset take almost ten years ago. It has absolutely changed my life, though. I’m glad you found it insightful!

This is an amazing theory. How did you discover this?
@Betwixt_App4 ай бұрын
The theory of fixed and growth mindsets is the brainchild of Carol Dweck (her book is referenced in the description if you want to read it). The particular application to interpersonal relationships was born out of my observations while practicing as a therapist 🖤

Will you possibly do videos on romanticizing/glamorizing your life? Is it healthy to do? I think some of your content takes on a more extraordinary approach that I find fascinating

Oh, thank you! And that sounds like an interesting topic. Can you clarify what you mean, exactly? You you mean choosing to see one’s life through rose-tinted glasses?
@au84384 ай бұрын
@@Betwixt_App I suppose seeing it through rose tinted glasses is one way! Perhaps also seeing your life as like a role playing adventure or seeing very spiritual/magical things in otherwise mundane things.

is there a desktop version of the your game? I personally feel the cognitive risks of using smartphones might not be worth the gains..... since smartphones are designed to function like casinos if that makes sense but I do love your videos
@Betwixt_App4 ай бұрын
@@jonahblock I hear that! We have been very intentional about ensuring Betwixt is not addictive or pressure-inducing like many other apps, but it does only exist for smartphones at the moment. We may optimise for desktop at some stage in the future.

@@Betwixt_App it’s not you, it’s the gatekeepers, first you have to get past the App Store which once your attention, then there is the way a smart phone has no object permanence so you always need to orient and then every time you pick up the smart phone you need to make an active choice not to do something more addictive with it like Facebook or TikTok’s or or more addictive gaming or even this right now
@jonahblock4 ай бұрын
My real point is I would love a windows version of this for my desktop. I also do t like focusing on this little screen. I have to “spend more cognition points” to do anything on this smartphone. Even typing takes longer
