Hey kids, i know you all have plenty of questions but just hang tight and i'll provide all the information you need over the next few weeks. Cheers . Just quickly, that little part about the heart rate increasing due to the low blood O2 is the very reason so many people with OSA die from heart disease. The heart never gets a chance to rest, even during sleep.

Hi Nick, I would like to know what is the lowest safe threshold for O2 levels while sleeping. I have tried a number of changes but still do not seem to hit the target. My AHI reading did come down significantly since started therapy, but I was still tired during the day. My new O2 ring p[onted out low O2 levels so I would like to understand what the issue still is. I value your input very much and would appreciate it if you could offer some advice. Thanking in advance

Thanks to you I purchased a O2 ring about a month ago. That decision has made a significant improvement in my health as it relates to my sleep. It made sense to me that oxygenation was the main purpose for apnea treatment. Your comments about balancing good sleep with apnea treatment also stuck with me. I was diagnosed with mild apnea back in 2015. I've always struggled with the machine (AirSense 10). I could fall asleep with it but always woke up a few hours later struggling to breath mostly due to nasal congestion (inflammation). I tried everything to increase the time of treatment but was unsuccessful. In the meantime I felt horrible and this past July I developed PVCs and was always sleep exhausted. Using SleepHQ (great product BTW) I noticed that my apnea had shifted from obstructive to central bordering on Cheyne-Stokes breathing. That bothered me because my clinician didn't seem to notice the same thing. After watching one of your other videos, I learned CPAP/APAP wasn't helpful for the treatment of central apnea. This is why I bought the O2 ring thinking if my oxygenation levels were good maybe I didn't even need CPAP treatment or it maybe even causing harm (treatment emergent central apnea). For the past month the O2 ring scores are in the high 9's and the past few days I've only had a couple of drops over 4%. I feel much better and sleeping mostly through the night. Do I even need CPAP treatment? I'm not assuming I've solved my apnea problem and I'm going to have another sleep study, but your tools (SleepHQ, O2 ring, videos, etc.) have impowered me to really understand better my apnea or lack thereof. Thank you!

I now use this device. Because of the o2 data I captured I convinced my doctor I needed oxygen. Without oxygen my O2 would regulary drop below 88% and saw numbers in the 78% realm. I now have an average O2 of 96% and the lowest O2 measurement has been 91%. I now have so much energy and am up an hour early. I feel better than I have in many years. All CPAP users should use this ring. I like that it will seriously vibrate and wake you up if the 02 drops below the selected level. Great product and it may have saved my life.

I discovered SleepHQ searching for an O2 monitor I could wear at night. BiPAP therapy has greatly improved my sleep but I think I have something similar to what you had going on with O2. My doctor just looks at the BiPAP data and says "nope, you're all good". Along with getting the ring I'll be getting a new doctor.

SpO2 is the holy grail, it's what we're fighting for; if you don't win this battle, you lose the war... And don't expect your doctors, clinicians or your equipment manufacturers to restore your healthy sleep without your efforts. This is so true. Im an embedded engineer and im shocked at how bad the cpap algorithums are and how they dont include an blood oxygen sensor to monitor both inputs and outputs by default. I can score 100% on the cpap app like you showed, but still have pretty bad blood oxygen levels for optimum health. I have the same oxygen ring and its helped me fine tune my treatment myslef so much. Right now Im dailing in my nitric oxcide levels with siliva test strips. Just discovered your channel today and learned a thing or two about AHI, which was never explained to me before, and low and behold I run about 18… But, thanks to you, I’ve switched from Auto to CPAP and adjusted my pressure upwards to see if I can now get down to or below 5 AHI. I live in Boulder and I'd love to ditch the CPAP for my central apnea and go solely with supplemental O2 - much less invasive and cumbersome at night. From my experience with the Wellue ring I've been able to dial my nighttime 02 concentrator back to 1.5L/min and keep my O2 levels >96% all night long. The patient cited by the other commenter may have had COPD or another chronic lung disease - I've been assured by my neurologist and sleep MD that I won't become "addicted" or dependent on my O2 therapy.

I feel like some of this should be on the news haha. Resmed's inaccurate reports showing higher treatment effectiveness should be a lawsuit or something. Especially because physicians are using these machine generated stats to assess how well treatment is going. Also, how do you upload the o2 from the ring on sleephq?

Hello guys, I purchased 02 ring recently because I had doubts that despite using CPAP I was having desaturations, because even with CPAP and low AHI my sleep was crap... After few nights of sleep it turned out my spo2 level are fine but my heart rates are hitting 120,130 even 140BPM... For years I was waking up with racing heart etc... I've been monitored with heart holter last year by a cardiologist and then I had a full EKG checkup and I've been told my heart was ok and that is my neurosis/anxiety and stress giving me the high heartrate... I am stressed out, but I firmly believe it's correlated with my breathing, since that abnormal fast heartrates aren't happening for me while I'm awake, sure I could hit 90 or something while awake and nervous, but hardly140 . Who could I contact to review my data and do some therapy consultation? I do however want to visit another cardiologist, but in my country every doctor that would see me monitoring myself would think of me as crazy, I know the last doc had, even though he was the one diagnosed me with severe OSA.

I use an oxygen concentrator attached to my CPAP machine, so I'm getting oxygen and CPAP, but I still feel very fatigued all day. I have the oxygen concentrator set to 2 litres per minute. I use a Wellue ring, and my line is NEVER straight like the one in the video. Furthermore, I regularly record drops of more than 4% up to 16 or 20 per night, although it tells me I average 96%. I wish I could find a way to get a good rest. I noticed that the oxygen helps me get a better Airsense score, but that doesn't mean much if you still feel like crap. Any advice would be appreciated.

So, MyAir gives me great scores, but my SmartWatch5 tells me my SP02 is still dropping to 74 at night (even tho ResmedAirSense 11 says only .8 AHI per hour). I have ordered the ring to fully tell me how long and how many times I drop to this danger level. But what then? I have reduced auto ramp to 5 minutes, starting at 9, took it off Soft - to - Standard, then my auto settings are 9.5 - 20.0. My 'sleep view' on ResMed panel tells me it averages pressure at 12. What do I do to address the lousy sp02?
@CPAPReviews

Hi Cindi, i'll have lots of videos on this topic in the SleepHQ community forum once we go live with SleepHQ pro but until then, the best thing you can do is change from AUTO Cpap mode to Fixed pressure at a level that covers the majority of your apnea. You'll probably find that a level of 13 will do the job but keep an eye on the O2 and run an eye over the flow rate in SleepHQ and that will guide you. All the best

@@CPAPReviews I didn't realize it at the time but the SLEEPON ring uses reflectance pulse oximetery and not trasnmissive. The ring your using uses "Transmissive" It shoots the light through the finger. The light is on one side of your finger and the receiver is on the other side. This is the best and most accurate way to test pulse oximetry. A lot of these cheaper devices and even the Apple watches use reflective pulse oximetery. Both the light and sensor and next to each other on the same side. They tend to be less accurate. I found a ring similar to yours for those of us in the USA. It's the Wellue O2ring. It can be had for around $150 on Amazon. If I can get either on eBay for cheap I'll grab them and compare.

I have a question, I got diagnosed with mild sleep apnea through a at home sleep study. Saying AHI of 8.5 at 3% desaturations and 4.7 at 4%. I haven’t got a cpap yet, still deciding if I should. I got the O2 ring, and it shows 4% desaturation 1 time per hour, doesn’t look like long before it goes back up. However a few times a night it does drop down lowest I’ve seen is 79, and I have the ring set to alert me. So 2-3 times a night I get an alert I’ve dropped sometimes to 90, sometimes in the 80’s. It seems to happen during deep sleep when I’m dreaming. Is that concerning or okay as long as I don’t stay that low for long? Im just really torn on getting a cpap or not. I don’t want to be Misinformed or “dramatic” and start using a cpap if it’s not really needed.

There are some interesting research papers on the effectiveness of using CPAP to treat mild sleep apnoea, indicating that it's not a clear cut answer. In some of these cases, treatment with CPAP has been shown to be no more effective than placebo and there is not enough solid evidence to demonstrate the treatment improves related health conditions. Also complicating matters is the inconclusive evidence concenrning the benefits or lack of, for CPAP when it comes to non sleepy apnoea. I suggest reading these research papers and discussing them with consultants in order to come to some sort of decision. Names of a couple of the research papers for you to Google and read, " Mild Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome Should Not Be Treated" and the other " Non-sleepy obstructive sleep apnoea: to treat or not to treat?". Other research info can be found along the same lines with a bit of time searching :)

Hey Frank, 99% of the consumer wearables that monitor O2 have very very low sampling rates. That is, they only do a reading every few minutes which isn't very helpful. The O2 rings are medical grade and have a sampling rate of 4 seconds. Next year we will have google/apple health integration so any device that can read / write data to those platforms can write to SleepHQ. Cheers mate

@@No1cemeister I think you'll find that the real value of integrating SleepHQ with your O2 saturation data is the ability to pinpoint the very specific short-time pulmonary events that lead to changes in your O2 levels. Without an O2 sampling rate in the range around ~.1HZ (ie once per 10 seconds) you're not likely to have enough temporal resolution to derive actionable data from the integration with SleepHQ.

Hey brother, yeah that's a good question! Apnea is only one of a very long list of conditions that can cause excessive daytime drowsiness. Diet, stress, lifestyle, other health conditions can all influence sleep quality and it might also not have anything to do with your sleep. For example, you might just have low iron levels etc. If it was me i'd start with a blood test. At least you can rule out Apnea as the cause. Cheers

My sleep specialist found I had serious PLMD, 70 jerky leg and arm movements per hour waking me up IN Addition to my mild 25 per hour obstructive and 20 central apneas. Philips’ respiratory devices recall has even more problems NOVEMBER 18, 2022 BY CHRIS NEWMARKER FacebookTwitterLinkedInShare The FDA says some Philips ventilators - reworked as part of the company’s massive respiratory device recall - have new problems. The Dutch medtech giant has informed the FDA that reworked Philips Respironics Trilogy ventilators have two new potential issues, the FDA said yesterday. First, the new silicone sound abatement foam could separate from the plastic backing. The separated foam could impact device performance. For example, the silicone foam could potentially block the air inlet, lowering the inspiratory pressure. A ventilator alarm, such as the Low Inspiratory Pressure alarm, could sound. Philips installed silicone foam in the reworked ventilators to replace the polyester-based polyurethane (PE-PUR) foam that could potentially deteriorate and get into air pathways. In addition, the company reported trace amounts of particulate matter in the air pathway of some reworked ventilators. Particulate samples went to a third-party lab for evaluation. Preliminary results showed PE-PUR and environmental debris in some samples. In others, there was only environmental debris. The FDA wants Philips to provide additional information so that it can understand what caused the new issues. The agency said it wants to provide informed recommendations to patients, caregivers and healthcare professionals. Philips has more information on its website. It said it has received a limited number of complaints about the new problems." Wtf is wrong with these people, I knew the dream station 2 cpap would be a problem as well. And Im sure it will be, this won't just be ventilators. Poisonous foam, magnets, now the new silicone foam can break off.
