I actually prefer the first one, the original. Sure, Dpad only, and the saving system sucks, but other than that it's the best. Consistent art design, fantastic OST across the board, and plenty of personality. It has average difficulty, for 1996 at least. People who play videogames today are normie memelords, literally nothing that they say regarding videogames should be taken into account ever.

The fact that you can die in levels/bonuses and still retrieve the gems makes this remaster FAR easier than the original. And the only issue was mainly the first game Crash 1 was insanely difficult; I wouldn't even try to 102% that ish

you have a point with how nostalgia can change how we percieve things. But I swear to god, I die way more in the n sane trilogy than I had in the originals due to those minor tweaks you mentioned. I know for a fact, because I still play the old ones and almost never EVER die but the n sane trilogy kills me so many times I have to wonder why. But I can agree, it's still an awesome game and will be there to stay.

Last time I played crash was almost 10 years ago, I just got the N.Sane trilogy a few days ago, and I didn't feel like the controls were bad or anything, but I think its because I've never finished any of these 3 games, mostly because I didn't own a memory card, and I couldn't save. Now that I have the game, it's just how I remember it being, so now Im having a lot of fun trying to 100% this 3 games. Also great content, you deserve way more subs.

I'd say one thing worth noting in regards to the jumps being less precise is that it's because the PS4 version of Crash 1 apparently uses round hitboxes instead of the rectangular ones from the PS1 version, meaning certain jumps that'd work in 1996 will get you killed in 2017.

The problem people are having is the movement system in the remakes incorporates momentum into jumping mechanics but the level design of the first two games wasn't built around that. Momentum wasn't added to crash until the third game. but aside from that these remakes are almost one to one going as far to incorporate many glitches and exploits found in the original trilogy. Anyone saying they don't remember the games being this hard are likely miss-remembering due to games of the current being far far easier then the games of the past.
@ChrisLP255 жыл бұрын
absolutely, Crash Bandicoot 1 and Crash Bandicoot 3 Warped's Platinum Relics were harder than any other games even before the 2000's. Let's say those Crah games were harder than beating Silent Hill, Resident Evil 3 and Syphon Filter!
@egitkrofl7 жыл бұрын
I went back to playing the originals again, and I feel a BIG difference, even tried on an emulator as well as PS1 / PS2. I used both RGB scart through a Sony PVM (basically the lowest input lag you can get) and component through my TV (just to try with a bit higher lag). HMM NOSTALGIA EFFECT, EY? It's simple to think that way if you didn't spend enough time actually playing the games, getting used to their mechanics inside and out. The differences are going to be noticable, it's an entirely new engine built from the ground up, using Crash 3's physics as a base in all of the games. The problem with this is that the earlier games weren't designed for this, at least not Crash 1. The jumping is the problem, as well as the hitbox of Crash himself. They're very off from the original. I'm fine with change, but it better work close enough to the originals, or I am going to notice it heavily. Take "High Road" in Crash 1 for instance, the way you can't stop moving on top of a turtle and then get your momentum back is very different. Crash kind of just stops dead in his tracks unless you get a running start and don't stop jumping on each turtle in order. Getting the normal jumps on the bridge can also be very difficult, considering you have to get really far out on the edge of the boards without falling down. The main issue isn't even the hitboxes of the level itself, it's Crash's that's not as generous here. In the original it was easier to stand a bit further out with your legs in the air, and it was also easier to gain momentum from a standing position. Oh, and I know how difficult the game was... don't you worry, I'm not blind because I grew up with the game. Besides, what fans meant with making the game harder was that it added on top of what we already had, which was, you guessed it... a hard game. I'm not denying that.
@SaviorGabriel7 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I don't see anyone denying that Crash Bandicoot games were hard back in the day. I'll gladly admit my skill at these games have gotten rusty since my high school years. But when I'm missing the simplest most basic jumps, or dying, and taking hits from things that shouldn't be close enough to do so, that's not a nostalgia problem. That's a this game's physics, and hit detection don't do what they should be doing problem. It's also not a problem of people being made soft from modern games being "too easy". It's been 20 years since Crash Bandicoot debuted. Lots of things have changed. Game development has become more, and more refined since then. I would expect that in the 20 years since Crash's debut, that video game developers mastered refining physics, and hit detection in that span of time. We're not asking for the game to hold our hands, or to take away any of the challenge. I don't mind losing at a video game. But that loss has to be MY fault, and not the game's.
@seanraf25547 жыл бұрын
SaviorGabriel I'm not gonna lie and say it's perfect. I do feel the game does glitch out an momentum is something I don't remember being an issue with the originals, but to offer a counter to your argument, it still does come down to skill. The runs and times people can pull off consistently wouldn't be possible otherwise. Heck, I've used guides for some of the levels' time trials, and they can be replicated exactly. Of course you're free to complain about the game, but apart from the occasional glitches or input lag, your deaths are still primarily going to be your fault. There wouldn't be people who find it easy (and there are loads that do) otherwise.
@IMakePeopleSaltyApparently7 жыл бұрын

As someone with no nostalgia for the original trilogy, I think there are definitely issues with changing certain things in the remake such as rounding the hitbox or changing the physics to unify all three titles. Playing the game, as a newcomer, I can tell something is "off" when I slip off the very edge of a platform that I'm absolutely certain would have been considered a solid landing in the original. And the thing is, I've played plenty of other old games with the same type of hitbox so I know what it's "supposed" to be like for areas with tight jumps like Road to Nowhere and The High Road.

This is an excellent video. Nostalgia is a powerful thing, and I think the N. Sane Trilogy is an example of where it's exploited successfully. While the old PSX visuals haven't aged well, the original three games are mechanically very solid and the platforming holds up well today. This by and large has allowed Vicarious Visions to produce a pretty faithful remake, which I hope will be enjoyed by nostalgic fans and new players alike. The difficulty is that while they've striven to make Crash handle consistently in all three parts of the remaster, the original trilogy of Crash games all controlled quite differently. This makes the remade Crash 1 in particular feel a lot different from its predecessor.
@sebastiankulche4 жыл бұрын
I agree in what you say except in the visuals. The visuals still holds up in the originals too.
@Harkz0r7 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure to what degree I even agree with the 'nostalgia effect' being a thing, at least for me. The original Crash was pretty much exactly as I remember it. N.Sane is an amazing job for an almost-from-scratch remake, but the jumping physics and hit detection are noticeably different at times (on the hog levels, for instance, and on levels that require long, tight jumps). I could say the same for a lot of other games. Maybe I remembered Rayman 1 more fondly than the actual game is. But I've gone back to look at most of them and even replay them, and they're pretty much exactly as I recall. Abe's Oddysee, Colony Wars, FF7, MGS and so on... maybe there are minor differences, but the essence is the same at least.

Great video, really well produced! Congratulations! My little contribution to the discussion: As a retrogamer and someone who plays old games constantly, I realized it's important to look at games as a mix of what they are objectively and what they mean subjectively. New things aren't always better, but old things aren't really better either when you combine these two aspects. It creates a different experience for each person, and that experience will determine the final result. Nostalgia might not be the only factor when it comes to enjoying old games and/or remasters, but I think it's important to understand what it means. Since I play so many old games, it's hard for me to be only nostalgic for these games - not only because many of these I didn't play as a child, but because my personal gaming standards are defined both my what was done back in the day and what's been done recently. Either way, it's important that people have fun, at the end of the day. And hopefully there are experiences for these people out there, just waiting to be discovered, revisited or created.

Amazing video! That's exactly what is happening with Crash and with a lot of other remakes or new games, like the Pokémon series. I saw a lot people saying for example, that a problem of the games is, the bosses are super easy now, but that's not exactly the truth, they felt hard before because everyone was young and learning, not with a lot of experience on games etc, but if you replay these bosses on the original games today, they will be super easy, and like you said, that's how Nostalgia works and why is affecting the reviews like that.

As for the video, I really have to give you my most sincere congrats on it. It perfectly explains the nostalgia problem how it affects the player. Very well done, and not even that long.

@stupidmovies857 жыл бұрын
The game is harder. Well at least the first one (I finished it last night). From what I've read, Vicarious Visions just used the jumping mechanics from the 3rd game in all three, and because the first games stages are much different and less elaborate than its predecessors, the jumping doesn't work as well. It made the first game more challenging which is a welcome change. I do remember this game being hard as hell, but this is slightly more challenging. I haven't started on the second yet. I can honestly say this still holds up to this day. It's no different than half the stuff Nintendo still cranks out yearly that gets tremendous reviews. Games that focus on platforming and environment with no story mechanics. Just meant to be a fun challenge.
@behemothokun7 жыл бұрын
while the physics (especially for the first game) is different, personally I think it's easier because of that. The new-ish jumping mechanics are far more controllable and predictible then the old ones. The only problem that might occur is that when you are used to the old ones and try to play the same levels with the new mechanics. . . I died a couple of times in the beginning because of that, but personally I got used to them fast and now prefer them. The tight jumping sections especially in the first game feel way easier in the N Sane Trilogy.
@CuteAnimeGirl7 жыл бұрын
IMO the hard parts are not because of the jumping so much as judging hitboxes on things like fire or some enemies (the birds mostly). That's not as much on the player as the developers/programmers, since the player goes by visual cues and we can't actually see the physical hitboxes that actually exist on the obstacles so some of it is guesswork.

From what I've heard and seen, the game is easier and harder at the same time. I'll bet it's still pretty easy to just run through, but if you want that 100%... Japanese version of the original was also easier and harder at the same time. And then there's people that suck, like I did. But then I applied some "git gud" and now I've 100%'d the game many times and also 100%'d the NTSC/J version on console. Am I the only one who thinks the save system wasn't bad in the original? Those bonus rounds used to save are not even required for 100% in the original. Not have played the remake/remaster though.

i wouldn't say it was a nostalgia problem. i played crash 2 a couple of years ago and found it to play much nicer than these remakes. the collision is the main problem with these new ones imo. doesn't totally ruin it but makes it much less fun to play.

The n64 had better visuals than The Ps1.

N.Sane trilogy only needed to keep some old SFX like Orient Express from Crash Warped; when you pass the guys lifting the stones and they say "Uuulegeh" in the PS1 version or when ever you play Arabic levels and the swooshing sounds made from the guy hovering on the magic carpet, ik the remastered version a lot of SFXs were relinquished but don't get me wrong.... I Nit Pick but thats mainly because those were the things that stuck out to me personally. All in all N.Sane trilogy had me emotional while playing it..... i really felt like a kid again especially when i played the Snow Go level and heard that remix to the original Lol i started nodding my head to the jingle bells 😂😂😂.... but Nostalgia can be good at times so go figure. Great Video keep it coming

Well, the first Crash game may be more difficult to play through, but from what I've heard, playing Crash 3 is great in the remake, because the remake uses Crash 3's handling for all of the games. So I'd probably enjoy the N. Sane Trilogy, even if just for Crash 3 and 2.

people need to realize this isn't the original game its not going to be the exact same.

It's a remake you fucking fool. Obviously games can be the exact same thing when they're the same game being distributed multiple times. Remakes from the ground up are different games, no matter how accurately anyone tries to make them. It's your brain that's flawed because that's the stupidest thing I've heard in a while.

yes it is possible. but most people think crash one controls much better in the n sane trilogy.

I'm glad there are people with common sense. There are people who complained that the draw distance is a bit to far in the remake, I'm not even joking people complained that can see a bit better in the distance

Honestly i think Yooka-Laylee would be a better candidate for the Nostalgia Problem than the N. Sane Trilogy

I started playing the original trilogy again a few months before the nsane trilogy (I got a Ps4 a few days ago and bought the nsane trilogy) I'm not a pro playing the originals but I have some skills, and honestly after starting playing the nsane trilogy I found the controls smooth and overall, found the 3 games way easier than the originals. Still they are, those games weren't that easy back in the day (only warped was easy) but the first two games weren't easy. I don't know why a lot of people are complaining.

I thought everyone already knew Crash 1 was brutal, it's always the 1 thing people bring up when talking about it and comparing it to the sequels.

As someone who played the hell out of the original trilogy I am really curious to try this new version and see if the general opinion is right, not to mention I could finally play Stormy Ascent. But investing on a PS4 just for this game and perhaps KH3, kinda heavy. I even beat the first game 100% in one sitting a few weeks ago as a hype for this new version.

I have played the oringal games with the last few months, the oringal disk on the PS2. and yes some of the handling is diffrent or off. alot of holes in crash 2 that use to be a simple jump you now need to slide jump to get over, most of it is just getting use to the new controls, but they do need to fix the jet ski controls, they are a bit lose. aside from the few flaws or changes, I'm still enjoying these games and i love them. crash 1 is easier in the remake, as i could never get far in crash 1 on the originals, with out using the code, i only made it to the 2nd island, with the remake, i just need two colored gems and 3 clear games and i will have the game 100%. crash 1 is still hard, but it's easier in a since as well

Correction, the N64 is dated on modern TV's. There's nearly no way to play it in HD. On the original tv it's blurry af.

I guess the sheer number of times I've played beloved older games over again trained my mind to NOT fall for this trap, since the ONLY times I've lost interest for games I've loved before is when they became simultaneously too easy for my skills and not satisfying enough for casual mucking around in. Jimmy Neutron and Bionicle for PS2 come to mind.

My brain must be broken then, I tend to strongly remember down to the finest of details, bad memories, and just push aside the good memories, once I have a moment to to think I can recall the good ones, but when I encounter ANY FUCKING SITUATION, I am ALWAYS forced to remember at least one bad thing, maybe something that happened in that location, something bad that happened with someone in the room, or something just plain unrelated... Fuck my life... :/ 5:11Am 8/27/2017
