Turned out sweet. Nice job on the freebies also for the customer. Goes a long way. I had a 88 Bayliner... decent boat.. only problem we had was the middle floor started to sponge and flex... Force 80 motor works fine. Can pull a tube or ski behind ok. Nothing major here. These are starter boats imo. B.O.A.T. (Break Out Another Thousand).

Drake, I have done both steps with the wool pads after wet sanding and looks near perfect. I started following up with the Lake country CCS white pad on a da and I'm removing the holograms but the finish seems less shiny than the finish of the yellow wool on the rotary. Any idea what could be causing this? What RPM were you running the DA on the polishing stage in this video? Thanks!

Hey Drake, I've learned a ton from your video's. I have a couple of questions on this one. Early in the video you mention using a decontaminate, which one did you use? Also, with the amount of correction needed on this boat, was that step really necessary? Thanks for the great content! I pray God continues to bless you and your family.
@DrakesDetailing
@DrakesDetailing Жыл бұрын
Yes it was totally necessary. With the amount of steps it took to do this, it makes the following steps go so much easier. A decontaminate could be anything from degreaser such as purple power and water, simple green, or blue Dawn dishwashing soap.

Chrome, you can just use a good metal polish of your choice. For the canvas, take it off the boat, use a somewhat abrasive brush, wash with Dawna and make sue you rinse very throughly. Then, seal it all with 303 Fabric guard

Recently purchased 20 year old 22’ all white bay boat and have watched a bunch of your videos which are great. Want to do a pretty good restoration even though the boat is in pretty good shape. However what confuses me is the terminology. I understand what compounding is but is that the same as buffing? Not clear on what the terms polishing, sealing, coating and waxing are or if some of those terms mean the same thing. I understand wax vs ceramic but is ceramic the same as SiO2? Was planning on using Maguiar’s Ultimate with DA buffer followed by Jescar Power Lock Plus. But is the Jescar a final step or do I need to wax or ceramic after that? Keep up the good work, it’s much appreciated.
@DrakesDetailing
@DrakesDetailing Жыл бұрын
Buffing Is kind of a blanket term for using any general polisher on your boat. When you are “compounding” you are using heavier grit compound on a wool pad with a rotary buffer to remove heavy oxidation. After you do the heavy compounding to remove the oxidation, then you use polish to remove the rest of the swirls left over from your heavy compounding. A polish is just a finer grit compound then your heavier stuff. Sealing refers to anything that is going to give your boat protection for all the buffing you just did to make your boat shiny. In order to protect that shine. Wether it will be ceramic coating, or polymer sealant it will give you protection from the UV. SI02 is just watered-down ceramic, mainly used for maintenance on your ceramic or your sealant. Hope this helps!
