@carlmarks8170
@carlmarks8170 2 жыл бұрын
@@tapanbhattacharjee9180 Their careers of Marshall and Andy Roberts only overlapped for 9 test matches played over 3 or 4 different series. Never against Australia. That famous quartet played 2 consecutive tests on the 1980 tour of England, and they were together for the 1983 home series vs India. Roberts was nearing the end of his career. Marshall, Holding and Garner were the 3 mainstays during Marshall's first 50 test matches from 1979-1986; with a revolving door of bowlers in the 4th slot... Roberts (9 matches), Colin Croft (7), Sylvester Clarke (6), Wayne Daniel (5), Winston Davis (10), Eldine Baptiste (7), Roger Harper (16), Patrick Patterson (6) and Courtney Walsh (9), plus few others for 1 or 2 tests. (These all add up to more than 50 matches because the Windies often played 5 bowlers; and Holding & Garner missed a few tests here and there with injuries.) Imran Khan should not be grouped with Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis. His best days as a bowler were well behind him in the 13 test matches he played with those other two from 1989-1992.. He took just 21 wickets at average of 35.00. Wasim & Waqar took 70 wickets apiece at an average of 21.00 and 19.00 in that time period. It was a formidable duo. Not a trio. Why am I not surprised you didn't mention the Aussie bowling attack of Warne, McGrath, Gillespie, Lee (and MacGill) ? They dominated. They probably took more wickets and won more test matches for their country than any other bowling combo.

Highly intelligent, great athlete, fierce competitor on the field, and by all accounts a gentleman off the field. Never heard a bad word said about him, universally respected by his peers and the cricketing public. Imo, the greatest fast bowler we've ever seen. If you don't have Malcolm Marshall opening the bowling for your All-Time XI, I question your knowledge of cricket. At a time when the West Indies had a plethora of great fast bowlers, Michael Holding, Joel Garner, Andy Roberts, Curtley Ambrose, Courtney Walsh amongst others, he stood out as the best of them all. Cricket, the West Indies and the world lost a special player when he died far too young. RIP The GOAT Fast Bowler of them all.

The era of 70s,80s,90s specially to late 2000s cricket was "Real Cricket,we had good competition between bat and ball,cricket was more sports than fashion, advertisement and money through different cricket leagues where most pitches are made for batsmen and boundries are too small also,cricket is dieing

My top bowling outfit would be Marshall, Lillee, Akram and Warne, with Sobers at 6 as the allrounder. Middle order Viv, Lara and Sachin, Gilchrist at w/k although given the top order could potentially pick a pure keeper. Most of the bowlers can bat. Openers Richards and Gavaskar.

Tough to play Marshall because he mixes killer bouncers at your head...while you keep looking for them,he will bowl a leg cutter,inswinger,outswinger,etc...

The current WI team is a sorry shadow of that era - we are seeing a glimpse of those deadly days. You needed skills and balls of steel to face those bowlers without helmet and modern day protection.

Must have been strange for Marshall to take 10 for 107 in the match in the winning team - only to see MoM go to Geoff Lawson for his 11 for 181.......
