Bought a new Porsche Cayenne years ago. Tried to negotiate price. They basically looked insulted ‘We don’t negotiate price’ They made me feel like I couldn’t afford it I paid cash for it. This was 15 years ago when I was young and uneducated in dealerships I will never ever feel intimidated by those creeps again

I used to work for napleton Auto. I was the pretty face that got you to say yes to the car. Hardball managers took over from there making fat checks for themselves while they threw a lousy $200 commission at me and said "good girl" I quit after 8 months. They don't even treat employees well.

Thanks for all the great info!! A previous video on fake fees helped me avoid wasting $700 on an added VIN etching fee. Your suggestion to take the finance paperwork back to the floor salesman and let him deal with it worked like a charm! Keep up the excellent work and I look forward to seeing Liz taking it to an unscrupulous finance officer. God bless you!

Need to do some hidden camera stuff with real car dealers, role playing is fine and all but it's all scripted. Kind of like watching a self-defense teacher show you want to do in an attach when they know what the attacker is going to do, that look great but how well does it work in the real world when you have no idea what the other side is going to do or say? Need to see it in practical application.

Unfortunately, where I live in AZ every (and I've been looking) dealership makes every dealer installed option mandatory. Even on used cars. I've looked at a few used cars that charge up to $800 for tint, theft protection, paint protection and key replacement each. New or used, dealers are adding on average $3000 in add ons and when you tell them you don't want to pay them, they basically tell you to pound sand because the next person coming through the door will pay it. Entirely frustrating when I'm trying to upgrade
@KevinHunter
@KevinHunter Жыл бұрын
Apparently you missed the lesson in this video on using the FTC guidelines to get the dealer to cave in. Getting what you want takes plenty of courage and intestinal fortitude. If you back down when they tell you to pound sand, that's what you're left with. Nothing.

@Kevin Hunter The Homework Guy my issue is they put the fees in writing before we even get into finance and when I try to explain I do not want those items and bring up that I have no obligation to buy optional dealer add-ons they just tell me that's the final price. A couple of times the car I wanted magically sold after I brought up that I wasn't paying those fees.

I'm literally going through this now. Another IL dealership is doing this to me refusing to remove $2k of addons on the used car. This is after I had purchased airfare to arrive from out of state (commitment and expense on my part). I do believe we have a contract as I expect my airfare purchase to be treated as consideration (in a legal action). Price on dealers website clearly says only the tax, title and doc fee (very small amount) was excluded. Since the finance manager was so pompous and offensive gives me an extra incentive to make sure they don't forget about this transaction, also the Group CEO will know the finance manager's name (putting entire Group's risk profile higher because of a decision of a desk person).

So are you guys saying we can force the dealer to remove add ons from vehicles we want to purchase? I purchased a brand new Nissan and it had nitrogen in the tires, protection film on the edges of the doors, and lojack. They jacked up the price 2.5k. I asked the dealer to remove everything and he said he won't, that I can walk out and go to another dealer. How do we force their hand?
@KevinHunter
@KevinHunter Жыл бұрын
Yes you can. The FTC has handed out huge fines to Dealers forcing add-ons on their customers. The language says a dealer cannot require you to purchase things not agreeable to you. Elizabeth will demonstrate the "tough love" needed to get it done. Coming very soon!

I’m confused. I refused to purchase any of the add ons which by the way totaled $6k ! The finance guy said “bye” then, I’ll sell the car to someone else. This was on a used car and we had agreed on the price, my trade in and the loan terms. So I didn’t get the car I wanted! There are no other cars in my area that match this car. I can’t force him to sell it to me. Is there anything else I can do? I really want that car. I walked out 3 days ago.

In 2021, Commission actions led to more than $472 million in refunds to consumers across the country, but these refunds were the result of cases resolved before the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 2021 that the Commission lacks authority under Section 13(b) to seek monetary relief in federal court. Because of that ruling, the Commission no longer has its strongest tool to return money to consumers, and it will become harder to provide refunds to consumers harmed by deceptive and unfair conduct.

GULF STATES TOYOTA controls Toyota dealers in Texas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas. New Toyotas arrive at the dealer with $2025 of unwanted options. I am being forced to shop for a new Toyota in New Mexico and Colorado, although I live near5 Houston Texas. The list includes, carpet mat set, cargo cover, connectivity kit, illuminated door sills, mud guards, vehicle protection package, rear bumper protector, rear cargo organizer. These are for a 2023 Highlander. I was told the vehicle comes to the dealer this way and I can't have them removed, except for carpet mats. The dealer then adds on their options, Lojack, nitro, maintenance package, window tinting and the list goes on. I'm still looking. Do I have to pay for options I don't want? Love your videos, very helpful.

Some of what you're saying is interpretation. The dealer has the addons listed on the monroney sticker so it's not deception. They can tell you that they won't take it off and you have the choice to buy or not to buy. That's not deception. It does suck though.

I think it's also worth mentioning, what you're going over is the FTC Proposal of rule making, they haven't made the rules yet. I'm guessing based on their comment review process starting in December of 2022, it's going to be atleast a year before any new laws coming out of this will go into effect.
@KevinHunter
@KevinHunter Жыл бұрын
Twice this year, the FTC hit dealers with huge fines for violations spelled out in those rules. That happened because laws are already on the books. The FTC rules simply give current law more teeth. Enforcement is already there.

Do you guys ever discuss when dealerships steal sales tax rebates from unknowing customers by slyly deducting sales tax rebate from from the agreed upon price for the trade in the paperwork then insisting that’s how it’s done. I believe they do this on nearly 100% if deals here in Nevada except for deal involving people like me that are aware of the scam. I am confident that I am the rare exception regarding this scenario

I talked to my bank got the loan ready and then went to the dealership, now in the picture on their web was a white with beige interior, the car that was shown to me was a dark gray with black interior. That’s a bummer. Have them document and sign the contract/sales order that the specific add on is required. You can use that to threaten a suit or, more to your timely benefit, leverage it with their name, card, and contract to educate them and demand they remove or, or you’ll be taking it to the FTC.

At first I watched the kid and old guy. They seemed nice and knowledgeable so I watched a few more videos. Eventually I stumbled upon Chevy Dude - also seems really nice and cares about the customer. Both channels had similar content and talked about F&I, dirty tricks, add ons, etc. After watching them, Kevin the Homework Guy's channel started popping up. I watch a couple videos and WAS HOOKED! Kevin is a savage and is all in, 100% for the car buyer. The tutorials and videos are nothing short of exceptional and amazing!!! The information (EVERY LAST PIECE IS SHARED FOR FREE, and) is priceless! If you only learn one thing from Kevin, you're way ahead of the curve. If you follow his advice all the way - you are going to by a car like a BOSS! Oh yeah...forgot to mention - Kevin has help. FROM A MONSTER AND FINANCE MGR'S WORST NIGHTMARE - THE AMAZING ELIZABETH!!! (Hey Girl!) Wow...words can not describe how incredible her negotiation skill is. She's sweet, petite, and chews up and spits out F&I guys for lunch! Kevin and Elizabeth are the perfect, one-two combination. With their program and watching Elizabeth in action, you (especially, ME) will have all the knowledge needed to not only get the car you want, pay the price you want and not get ripped off...in any way! As I watch the videos, I'm getting the understanding of how the theater works. It's like a 3 act play; Act one, the Lot. (First contact - sales rep) Act two; They get you inside building but "need to talk to sales mgr" about your thoughts, etc. Last act - the Shark (F&I guy) swoops in to pad the price, sell you BS add ons, etc. Knowing and understanding this will really give you (Again...ME) the upper hand and keep you from being overwhelmed with all the head spinning they put you through. Also, knowing it's going to be a lengthy process, make sure to go AFTER you eat. This way you're brain will be fueled up and you'll be less HANGRY, which will lead to making poor decisions! So far, I've got my bank and credit union info in order. Watched a bunch of videos. Have my notebook. Downloaded the PDF files from the homework web site. Next... I'll visit a lot to physically see the car I want maybe even take a test drive - ONLY. Then I'll leave, go home and start sending the (recommended) e-mails to 10 dealers. Then work my way down to the final 2. Then dress up and visit the one who meets all MY criteria! I'll keep you posted! #WontGetFooledAgain

Powersport machines have different profit margins making it harder to negotiate. Set-up, freight, and other powersport fees ARE part of the deal if you check manufacture websites they list the cost of these. The cheaper the machine the less room to haggle, the more expensive the more room. IE 600cc motorcycles only have a few thousand in profit at MSRP so good luck. Whereas 1000cc motorcycles have 5k+ profit so better chance of dealing. When buying a "non-road" category machine use the internet to find actual invoices to compare the price to dealer cost AND find the actual set up of the machine. IE my 2021 zx6r has NO set up. It comes crated and fully assembled ready to ride. I called the dealer out on this and saved me 600$ in "set-up" fees. Our "toys" require a bit more research to filter through legit fees and BS ones. Know what you are buying and how it ships from manufacture to the dealer.

SC Car Zone in Costa Mesa are notorious for this. They were advertising vehicles and then when you get on the lot the price jumps because they add a ton of add-ons, increasing the price by 10-20K, telling you they can't remove them now because they're installed. For example, I was looking to buy a Jeep Wrangler. They added a tracker, warranty, digital plates, light bar and a bunch other costs. I refused to pay for all but the tracker which I wanted. 4 hours of negotiation and the price dropped by $15K - still a little hot price, but that was the market price. The digital license plate was a fun conversation; Me: I dont want it Them: It's legal in all states Me: But I'm moving to a state that doesn't process digital plates so it's useless Them: But...OK. Toyota of Huntington Beach were looking to sell me a new Highlander with 15K of add-ons because "that's how the manufacturer is shipping them" I called BS and walked out of the office. They were stunned and followed (read: hounded) me to my car. I will never go there again, nor recommend it.

I recently got a quote from a Toyota dealer for a new corolla and they had changed the msrp for the vehicle to include port and dealer add ons. The same dealer also was saying they would not negotiate on $2000 worth of dealer add ons including nitrogen filled tires and an additional “protection package” to the one added to the port installed one. Car dealers cannot be trusted.

Before you go to the dealer to make your deal, I’ve incorporated in my things on the to do list that day. I watch 2of Monty Pythons Shop scenes of someone trying to buy something (Cheese scene) or take something back, (parrot scene). It takes all the tension out of me. The dealer might even get flabbergasted because I have a fixed smile on my face, because I see him as the Monty Python clerk. Tension has gone poof.

I was at Honda of winter haven Florida last week looking at a 2022 Honda Accord the sticker price was around 30,000 when I ask the sales man what was the price he told me it was 35,000 then I ask him why does the sticker say 30 and you are telling me 35 his response was that dreaded market adjustment fee I laugh out loud and started to walk away when he ask if I wanted to make an offer I turned to him and told him what make an offer on your bull shits fees and kept walking

Bring it, Liz! My niece needs a car and we went to a couple of dealerships. Every one had a required market adjustment or something similarly named. When I'd say absolutely no, they'd capitulate and say it could be negotiated. I volley back with I'm only negotiating down from MSRP. I'm not negotiating down to reach MSRP. Fortunately we really were just seeing what it was like out there. The biggest challenge I saw is that the stock just isn't there for me to leverage a reasonable negotiation. They have for example only 4 new Civics on the lot and they know someone will pay all that extra ish. I begged my niece to just wait until spring and keep borrowing family cars like she has for the last 5 months. I hope she does or she just my do it on her own and learn a hard lesson. Asking a carless 23 year old to wait....ha. I fully expect her to text me any day now, "I got a new (base model) CIVIC for $600 a month for 7 years at 13.9% interest!" 😩

Your 23 year old niece doesn't need a new car. Honda Acura Lexus and a few others have the lowest supply with new cars right now. If she needs a new car right now go with a different manufacturer that has more of a supply. But in my opinion at that age she needs to get a cheaper used car. And wait for inventory to go up then she can buy her new car.
@DellyDoo
@DellyDoo Жыл бұрын
@@4drturbo85 We went to Honda, Nissan, and Kia. Inventory was the same story. We did look at certified used cars. They were about the same price as the new model's MSRP. Remember, they're selling the new with market adjustment. She's fine with a used car, but there is no way if fxxx I'm going to let her over pay that.

@@ghhm2705 She's had those and is done with them. I don't blame her. She works full time, works hard, and is salaried. She wants something new or only a few years old. Again, don't blame her. I also want her to wait to spring so she can save for more money down because I'm really trying to keep her away from owing more than the car is worth (used or new).

We bought a car recently and the dealer said their fees were 700. They said it was 500 doc fee and 200 for the window engraving anti theft. When i asked to see the contract they did not show me the contract where i could deny the add on! They showed me a page just stating that i was buying it! I caved because my husband really wanted the car. But that was so evil.

I have been told that once a dealer signs on to charge dealer fee, they have to continue charging that fee, Palm Bay Ford (now Gary Youmans). They also have an addendum (sucker) sticker where they add their markup of two to three thousand dollars. Currently, I am not in the market, but I may want to purchase in the future. I really enjoy your KZbin channel and all the information you have! Where can I do research on and find the dealers who care about their customers or do they not exist.

Ugh, these Sterling McCall Toyota folks are pulling some shady moves! So, I'm eyeing the Tundra TRD Pro 2024, and it's got a tag of around 78K. No biggie, right? But hold up - they're trying to slap on an extra 5K…and included purported add-ons and accessories labelled as "manufactory pre-installed." I decide to hit up Toyota directly, and guess what? Toyota says, "Nah, buddy, that's all on the dealer, not us." After a little back-and-forth with the sales crew, they reluctantly agree to drop the extra charge, but only if I finance through Toyota and agree to some forced buys. Now, check out these forced buys they're pushing: a $1,495 package with window tint (lifetime warranty), wheel locks, nitrogen in the tires, resistall paint protection, and three years of leather protection(all junks). And they're claiming the truck comes with Toyota-installed stuff totaling $4,073. But Toyota's like, "Hold up, that's not on us," even though the dealer insists it is. This whole mess goes against FTC rules (section 5, III, B), (Thanks Kevin)calling out these sketchy practices of making you buy stuff you didn't sign up for. It's just plain sneaky, and they're jacking up the price with these extra fees. Even though they got the TRDPro I want on the lot, it looks like the sales crew is ghosting me. Probably 'cause I'm not down for paying that ridiculous markup. What a wild ride trying to buy a car, huh?

I'm sorry. I couldn't watch the role playing video more than a few minutes. Great foundational content, but the attitude (all cocked and loaded and unnecessarily nasty) was silly, unrealistic and - well, immature. I get being informed and ready to negotiate hardball. But that video had the tone of some weird suburban revenge fantasy. Be nice. But FIRM. That's not only possible-- but puts one in a much, much stronger negotiating position than coming off like a cocky internet hack.
