wow, that actually just made me realise something. I left primary school when I was like 7 due to my school being blatantly rasict but nothing was done being done, so my mom (who's white) took me and my little sister out. A year into homeschooling, me and my sister went to a park and there were some boys who we used to be friends with (like he was a bit hyper but we got on well) and I remember one of the boys saying something like "you literally have no sass, but I thought you would have". At the time that really got to me, not because I thought as it as being racist back then (and that's not to say he ever meant it that way, I can't remember it well), but because I suddenly felt like I had to be all "sassy" and a lil diva. Unintentionally, that got pretty digged into me while we hung out with them even more at the park and I just ended up doing stupid things as if I were trying to impress them?? Okay, that was an odd ramble, but its made me reconsider how that comment he made should of been received.

Straight up, I'm korean and koreans are racists. U gotta admit. Korea is a really homogeneous country, and they are really not sensitive enough about these topics. They are racist to black people and other asians too. Most koreans who live in korea usually don't really get a chance to actually interact and connect to foreigners. Like 'foreigner' is a big thing in korea and if you don't look korean although u lived there your whole life and u have the nationality, you will always encounter people calling you a 'foreigner'. The only time i talked to a non-korean person in korea was a white English teacher from the uk. Literally. I think koreans are just ignorant about this topic due to the lack of experience, but since globalization is going on we should really pace up and become aware!!

@Congélateur Sama yes you are right. White washing is really common. They really do white wash BTS members. But its the editors. If you see any old bts videos you can see their real skin tone. Lisa from blackpink was not really white if you see her debut pictures, i also suspect that she must have gone through some nose job and skin lightning procedure. Many idols who are dark skinned are whitewashed , its mostly because of editors and korean fans since the beauty standard in korea defines white skin type. Its sad. Im brown skinned and these things are really sad , idols should be educated but their fans make excuses to protect them.

I think if ppl want to have big hair it’s fine. But if it is making it so ppl can’t see the board or the teacher then yes it’s an issue. I don’t think ppl should be sent home for it, it’s saying you did something wrong when you haven’t. I had punk hair that was big and would have to sit in the back of class. So if you come to school with big hair then you have to deal with the consequences.

I’m half Japanese. When I was raised by my great grandmother, on one occasion I was upset because her son has always been very mean to me because of my skin, so I asked her why and she explained that most Japanese are not educated on the existence and history of people like me and my dad and then went on to explain the word “racism” to me. She then admitted that she herself was one of these uneducated Japanese at one time, and that she grew and learned and she loved my dad me and anyone else of any race. Her words were “We may have different skin, but we all bleed red.” If my 83 year old great grandmother, can about she was ignorant and racist can truly love all people and raise me like her own, then a 18 year old, especially with the technology and information we have now, definitely can be just as excepting or at least more educated on the situation. Just like my great grandma said, Although we have different complexions, we all have red blood, we’re all human. We should all love each other. I appreciate that you made this video so much. I love that you discuss the racism against all communities that experience it, not just Asians or black people, but you still remain positive and honest and don’t only stand up for your skin or race. There needs to be more KZbinrs like you. R. I. P. great mama. Your little leaf still loves you.

This is a lovely story. I'm half Korean, half Chilean myself. It always feels special to meet another mixed person :) When I was little, I didn't understand the frustration I saw others have with those who have accents. I remember being so confused as to why someone wouldn't be patient with another doing their best to speak English. My mom took the time to explain to me that not all people grow up around much diversity, and have internal discomfort. I grew up with people who spoke broken English, and I'm sure you did too. It made me a more patient, accepting person and I never even realized it. I have lots of pride in my family and my culture. Glad to hear your story :)

Jack Skellington Oh wow. It’s so nice to hear your story too! There are few people I know who I can relate to. And yes, I did grow up with a lot of family who speak broken English, but now that you mention it, I am very patient, especially when people talk, and that might be why, Sadly my Japanese is getting bad because I don’t have any Japanese speaking friends and I speak English so often. This is really sad to me because that’s a part of my culture. But your content makes things a lot better!

@echoformsart

Arrianna Allen its reclaimed. When the n-word was reclaimed decades ago people commonly agreed that the new definition of use would be ‘person of value’ or a ‘black person of royalty’ as a way to gift black ppl back their value again. (Some people were uncomfortable with the reclamation then, some are still uncomfortable with it now but its subjective whether one wants to use it or not ofc. Its comparable to using queer as an identity or calling ppl of the lgbt community queer, its controversial and ur choice whether ur comfortable with it. Dont really think its gonna be something to ever become objective as it is with most slurs that are reclaimed)

Arrianna Allen i usually only find it acceptable if its with friends or certain people who expressed that they’re not uncomfortable with it and ofc the context its used in. If a white person calls their own house something like “cr*cker cabin” while talking to their nonwhite friends and they both laugh, its okay for the black friend to then also joke with that as well. Vice versa with something like the n word if you call a nonblack friend nigga or smthn

I've been telling my bf that I didn't like listening to Korean rappers who try to mimic Black American rappers with their flow and rap style etc. They don't know the life, the struggle, any of it and you can tell the moment the song starts. It feels like an imitation vs an original. I prefer when artists release songs that just flow and fit their individual styles.

I'm Asian and I've had experiences of bullying just because of my race. It's really hurtful to see some Koreans acting this way. What were they actually thinking, do they think it as a good source of entertainment or they're just plain horrible people that are ignorant and out of touch of reality? I know I can't speak for African/African Americans but hear what they had to say. Demanding accountability to these racists feels nothing but a dream nowadays. It's always been hard and I know it will still be, considering most of these are a bunch of grown-ass people that are already decided to be bigots. Although I know there are some out there that can still be educated, I can only hope that karma is real and it will do its job properly.

Yea it’s obvious he doesn’t know anything about black culture or even seems to care about it that much. What I see with his vids is that he picks off black women from the streets and asks them private questions and hits on them which is uncomfortable for any woman. It’s like some sort of game for him where black women seem like ‘forbidden fruit’, and Korean men are praised for ‘trying out’ black women (which is sadly pretty popular in Korea). And that’s just fetishizing right there, no respect towards black women and their culture and no will to learn let alone teach about the culture, it’s just plainly based on sexual gratification which is selfish and dehumanizing.

Elisa Roberts yea the whole thing with cultural appreciation. When ppl don’t understand it I use this example. When you wear something ur proud of and your ridicule, shunned and treated unfairly because you were born with it. Then years later you see them selling the very same thing they oppressed you with. And NOT GIVING CREDIT. Making millions off of it. It’s ignorant. Which is why it’s even weirder to me that the Asian culture has perpetuated blacks in the same as whites given how unrepresented they are in media just the same as black ppl. They’re has been progress in the last few years dont get me wrong.

allyiah simon I can somewhat understand how that feels, I grew up goth/emo got ridiculed for the music I like and my dark style but now it’s all popular. It’s sucks when I’d be made fun of for being this “goth” when now black clothing and rock music is cute and fun.

Emmaaa yea exactly this is the feeling. clothes you can change. Constantly manipulating ur Afro hair is time consuming and costly. Many ppl with braids for example were turned down in the work place because it was seen as “unprofessional”. I just hope ppl are educated as to why this is important to know it exists and not be blind to it. Because it makes them uncomfortable to speak about. Another example. People who cultural appropriation seem to always say “ it’s harmless ” ofc it’s harmless to you. You don’t know how it feels to be denied because of ur looks especially not on this scale. And also it’s incredibly ignorant to tell someone how they should feel when something applies to them. It dismisses they’re values. And displays the minority in a stereotypical depiction in media. The more ppl are educated the less ignorant they’ll be to wear and do tasteless cultural appropriation. All just because they wanted the aesthetic off the “black” (I use this loosely) shoes. But don’t wanna actually be in ur shoes. And have ur experiences.
@emmaaxo8409
@emmaaxo8409 4 жыл бұрын
allyiah simon this is exactly why I can understand a person of colours view point and why they might be upset. I can change my clothes and change my look entirely to please people, yet people of colour can’t just change their skin and abandon their heritage. Personally I love learning about different cultures, I even had a Jamaican friend growing up who showed me her foods, her drinks, her music, her dances and even styled my hair similar to how she styled hers. I think if you wear the fashion and hair styles knowing the culture and doing it out of love and respect for how the styles came to be then there is no issue. I think it’s a beautiful thing sharing cultures and educating people on their own traditions, and how certain things have a significant meaning.

My man is black😍 black people are super talented, I don't see why is so hard for them and other people to acknowledge that. Nor why is it so hard to accept who are they admiring and getting inspired of🤷🏽‍♀️ is like everyone is scared of getting caught in using "black people stuff" which is lame because pretty much clothes manufacturing the most comes from China, (usually they say made in china), you are the one who wear it how you want, however black people designed their own styles with those clothes that probably says made in China, or USA, or France, or anywhere. That "trend" is how good black people dresses and their taste in styles is their personalities, at the end we're all connected, by everything and we're all doing or using something from other cultures. Is not hard to accept it. I love their style, and I personally wear it, idk if it's because I was kind of raised in the states and adopted it or what just didn't knew or noticed that the way I dress was how black people do until a while ago, now I know where my good taste in clothes came from❤ (Even though as a Latina I have good taste, in a different way so what I do is a fusion of both styles🙌)

Strange thing, i told my Japanese mom the kind of stuff that Japanese shows have done that were blatantly racist, but she defended it "but I don't think they did that with racist intentions" like sure but, like say you were driving and you accidentally ran over a child. Of course you didn't intend to. But you still ran over a child. No matter if they didn't have bad intentions, their ignorance ends up hurting someone.
