At my wedding reception my dad surprises my new husband and I by signing a beautiful song. I am a sign language interpreter so this meant the world to me. He said it took him the entire year I was engaged to learn how to sign this song.

TheFebruaryFlower I don't think he meant competition literally. I don't think he's talking about a woman expecting to be looked after in the way that you mean, either. I could be wrong, but I believe he is saying, that a father that would do this kind of gesture to show his love for his daughter at the wedding has probably done things like this her whole life. He has always shown her he loved her- not just with money or traditional ways. He is warning people that sometimes there are more ways to express love for one another, and if I am correct- what he means is that simply providing financially and "looking after" her won't be enough. She's been taught to have a deeper relationship with loved ones.

I watch this video all the time,maybe hundreds of times. And every time, I cry. I cry when I see what a loving father he is. and cry because my father was an alcoholic who didn't show me love, cry for all the girls in the world who will never experience such love. Hope you love your father every day. You are a blessed daughter for having such wonderful father, and he is blessed to have such a beautiful daughter. God bless.
