I came to Christianity after years of despising Christians. I grew up as a mostly secular Jew and went through a Bar Mitzvah. But, in response to Freudian psychology, I became an atheist. But the supernatural seemed undeniable, and I then entered the New Age. But then, I became a lay Buddhist for several years. I also entered into Hindu practices later on. I studied Islam but never felt the desire to believe in Allah. Finally, I went to college and received a BA and then an MA in Comparative Religion as I saw over my life the value of religion compared to materialism. The summation of my search led me to Jesus via Christian apologetics. I studied and practiced each religion and worldview in good faith and did so again with Christ and Christianity. After getting many of my long list of questions sufficiently answered, I became a Christian aka baptism. I had to focus on Christ Himself, vs looking at Christianity. And it became clear: no vision or story or reality in this world comes close to the drama and majesty and power of Christ's death on the Cross for the sins of humanity (and they are so many) and His Resurrection that obviously occurred via the witness of his apostles and the transformation of them that took place afterward.

Other Christians ruined my view of Christ unfortunately. Saying you can’t be Christian unless you go to church. Then they judge the fuck out of everyone. It’s tiring. If I follow Jesus I don’t want the label Christian. Ffs. Specifically my ex ruined this for me saying I wasn’t Christian enough 😩. How rude to say to someone who believed in the same God as u. They were a hypocrite & acted passive in everything. I think that says more about them than Christ so I can hopefully get back on track.

I studied science at University, I've worked in IT all my life ... but I'm also an artist and I open my eyes and my mind to the world around us, and not a day goes by where something doesn't make me think, that is beautiful, or how is that possible. Every day we just have to look and realise there is design in everything. The laws of nature are constants across the universe, that is design, not randomness from nothing! But I struggled all my life with the idea of a benevolent god, when you see all the horrors we inflict on each other, in his name. But this video, finally gave me the answer, it is as Lennox says, people falling short of the glory of god, not god inflicting these horrors. Thankyou for this video, it's helping me a lot!

The trouble with Lennox argument is that he dogmatically assumes that god does exist without any proof. Certainly everything that Hitchens says does not prove there is no god, but it is not up to him to prove there isn’t a god. The onus is on Lennox to prove there. I ran aground on some of the atheist literature back in the 80s as a high school student. All around me I saw only death. After about ten years of hopelessness and mortal dread I read Ezekiel 36:26 and asked God for help. I can still remember how much brighter everything looked to me after that. It's now 30 years later and, though I still catch a glimpse of that old darkness when I hear someone like Hitchens talk, I have grown in faith and knowledge very steadily over the years. I used to live a Godless life. This lead me to darkness, destruction, suffering. My faith lights up my soul and makes everything better in life. I don't believe in religion literally and I also believe in science but I believe in a higher being a lot. Spirituality is important. Also, atheism can feel religious aswell since there is no proof of that there is no God, it's just a faith. Hence atheists cannot say they are superior to religious people in this aspect, they are very similar.

In contrast, I abandoned my irrational belief in God when I was a teenager and really started being able to think critically. My life is richer and less miserable because of it -- but that in itself doesn't make me right. Your deduction about atheism being a "faith" also shows that you don't understand the atheistic proposition. An atheist is simply one who lacks a belief in god (a-theist). By definition, that is not faith. I understand that theists misrepresent atheism all the time, but someone who actively "believes" there isn't a god lands in a subcategory of atheism not described by atheism itself.

Hitchens pointed out existence of natural evil (not involving human actions / morality) and Lennox responded with argument about evil done in name of God (moral evil). >the greatness of God as most vividly expressed in his self-sacrifice< It is incorrect. Immortal God can't die. "Death" for a weekend is nothing for the eternal God. And this God is omnipotent hence, he can't be harmed by his own creation.

The point of Mark 16:18 is that a powerful and resourceful enemy, even with forces of nature, cannot stop the the Body of Christ (His church) & mission from prevailing, no matter what is thrown against it. The context is metaphorical. The verse is certainly not proclaiming Christians are immune to snake bites & the effects of consuming poison. Sadly it’s one that has been misused & misinterpreted often throughout the centuries by those who have either a faint understanding of Scripture and/or a disregard for adhering to the entirety of Its authority. “Do not test The Lord thy God” A proclaiming Christian drinking poison as a test or attempt to prove a sort of divine protection or immunity is a clear and direct example of what we are commanded not to do.

Years ago, Dr.John Lennox has a KZbin channel, the subscribers were no more than 3k if I remember correctly. I thought why so small despite the richness, the values of its content. At that time I remember the saying "“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it." I'm going to give you historical and archeological evidence for God's Existence as The Scriptures have prophecies that predate the events recorded in them by several millennia including Matthew, Hosea and Zechariah which prophesy accurately of the people of Israel becoming a nation again after over 1900 years of being scattered around the nations since the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in 70 A.D. spoken of by Christ in Matthew 23:29-24:3 and returning to their homeland after The Holocaust with Jerusalem as their capital in 1948 exactly as Jesus The Christ said. The prophets including Daniel spoke of the time where several world empires would arise and fall including the Babylonian kingdom, Medes and Persians, Roman Empire, and Saladin and the Muslims which went in consecutive order for the past few millennia. How did the organs evolve before there were bones, skin, substance and how did any creatures see before eyes evolved? I've studied evolution and abiogenesis in the past and read Darwin's " On The Origin of Species" and I'm not convinced of macro Evolutionary biology whereas I accept micro Evolution like speciation and adaptation but not macro Evolution because there's no evidence of it nor clear observable examples of it where living creatures evolve into other kinds of species plus the fact that fossils don't show evidence of evolution and genetic entropy rules out evolution. The question begs how did two genders evolve from a common ancestor with a perfectly hospitable and sustainable environment with breathable oxygen and resources to survive on inexplicably? Atheists have the burden of proof to explain how everything came to be and why our existence is possible without the Existence of God from an godless perspective just as Christians have to provide evidence of God's Existence and the validity of His Word. Evolution requires life to already exist in order to take any effect in living organisms so it doesn't account for the existence of Life and reality. Also evolution is impossible because it goes against The Law of entropy and the second Law of thermodynamics because evolution makes things better whereas nothing continues to get better but decays and turns to absolute destruction in the end. Mark Ridley an Evolutionist said "No evolutionist whether gradualist or punctuationist uses the fossil record as evidence in favor of The Theory of Darwinian Evolution as opposed to special Creation". God's Existence is made perfectly known and observable in the universe as demonstrated in His Handiwork in the intelligently designed manner that Creation was made, human consciences and consciousness historical and archaeological evidence of God's Word being valid history, fulfillment of Bible Prophecies God in His Holiness and Righteousness could give us what we deserve in Hell for our since but He's merciful to give us free will to choose to accept or reject His gift of salvation by grace through faith in His Son Jesus. My step dad was a devoted atheist, well after years of living there towards his last days of earth somethings came back to him on his death bed he remembered something I have said to him. Now what happens when these people gets all the men to change the sex and women to change there sex also well man can't create life so only God can plus they don't have the knowledge to correct what they have done it will be broken forever human life will just cease to exist period. If you believe in God or not is purely personal. I used to but when in the past, my life temporarily took a negative twist and I got the revelation that I didn’t feel the faith anymore. For me it is important to accept us humans as IMperfect beings, as imperfect as the universe, and as constantly changing like the universe. Then you can accept that each of us has good and bad aspects, is right in some and wrong in others. That one can be wrong because of lack of knowledge, as no one can know EVERYthing, or what is right for you can be wrong (and somehing else right) for someone else in other circumstances. Accept the good, be proud of them, only when you accept the bad, you can set out to improve them and find strategies how to handle them. Then you can also better live with the imperfection of other people, and let them be as long as they do not affect you or other people you care about. I try to be tolerant to errors of others (even when they affect me) when they are unintentional, but am totally (probably way too much) allergic when someone intentionally tries to take advantage of other people, puts himself above others. Then one can accept that ANY solution is a compromise, never pure black or white, but always some shade of grey that none of the involved parties really like and that is always open for discussion. "Life is too absurd to take it seriously" is one of my rather new "slogans". Makes you way more relaxed.

All I can say is that since age 12, when I started drinking, I was never able to stay sober. Not until I became a Christian and fervently prayed to God to help me stop was I able to. You can say it's just some kind of placebo effect but to me it's a miracle. For almost 20 years I felt I just couldn't get through life without drinking, yet here I am, 100% clean. God is real. He saved my life.

I'm certainly on the side of Lennox in this debate, but I don't think your observation here really rebuts Hitchens' position. Hitchens asked how a loving God could allow humanity to struggle for so many millenia before entering the world to enlighten it. I'm a Christian but I think the question is a fair one, and unfortunately the segments shown here do not answer that question. First I would argue that Hitchens' question misses the real point of God entering the physical world in the person of Jesus Christ. That point was not to educate about the material world or to end physical suffering; it was to redeem. It was to make clear Who God is and who man is; to make clear that the only life for man is relationship with God; to make clear that man's nature prevents that relationship; and to provide the means for that relationship. I certainly take your point that material and social progress have followed in the wake of Christianity but even had they not, man would still be redeemed by Christ's atoning death and victorious resurrection. After all the Christian believers who lived before The Enlightenment were just as redeemed as we are today although they did not enjoy the advances you catalog. More directly, Hitchens' argument is rebutted by recognizing that the number of years or the number of generations is not relevant; the number of people is relevant. Estimating the proportion of the total number of people who have ever lived in each millenium is very imprecise, but it's not hard to find estimates that about 95% of all the people who have ever lived have been since Christ. So Hitchens' argument that God coldly watched people struggle for 98,000 years and only helped people for 2,000 years is a pretty significant misrepresentation of the opportunity mankind has had to benefit from the knowledge of Christ's physical presence on earth.

And yet, the video’s narrator praises the two men as being paragons of intellectualism and states that this debate is one of the all-time best of its kind. Hitchins speaks first in the debate (I am paraphrasing): "We know 99.9% of all species that have existed on this planet have become extinct. So, heaven has already watched almost 100% of its creation die off. Most people say that Homo Sapiens have been around for 100,000 years. What does it mean if we’re divinely created and looked out for? It means that ninety-eight or so thousands of those years, humans were being born, dying, half of them in childbirth, I would think, life expectancy of twenty years, maybe thirty. It means people dying essentially of their teeth or out of hideous diseases, living in permanent fear. Where are the earthquakes and lightning strikes coming from? Why are all these diseases hitting us and why don’t we know about microbes? Afterall, if I fail to distinguish between the genius of Einstein and the abuse of his science to create weapons of mass destruction, I might be tempted to say science is not great and technology poisons everything." Hitchins does not mean or imply those, and I agree with Hitchins that if God is the designer, neglect of that magnitude could not have gone on that long, followed by sudden divine interventions of various flavors springing up at the very end of 100,000 years. I am not the only one who understands that these later exoteric versions of Serpent Religion (SR) were introduced at the perfect time of civilization development to provide more modern ways, i.e., trickier methods, of deceiving the masses and justification and instruction for the Elite on the esoteric side. In this video, Hitchins presents evidence indicating the nonexistence of God, not showing what evils humans can perpetrate on their own, not how religion poisons everything, or not whether God is great or not. He might assert some of these other things in some of his speeches or writing, but not here. I know the title of his book is something like, "God is Not Great". In other writings of mine, I explain how religion, science/technology, and even civilization, being completely controlled by the Brotherhood, do poison everything. Lennox continues his twisting and turning upside-down of the logic: "As I look back at the evils of atheist regimes of the twentieth century, I might also be tempted to say atheism is not great. It has poisoned everything. As it is, I hold that science shows some of the greatness of God." Science/technology, atheism, and religions were developed to enhance the control, fear, and suffering that characterized the so-called evil regimes of the twentieth century. It will become more evident as the Harvest progresses that science is for control, not for benefitting humanity or for the glorification of a Serpent Religion-derived fake god. NPC (non-player character) Lennox must be programmed to think that governments should be guided by religion. The evils of no separation between church and state are plainly seen presently in the world and in past centuries. But the real and underlying evil is SR, which controls all regimes and civilizations in the past, present, and future. Since it is obvious that intelligent design is true but that a God-type of intelligent design is false, it makes me wonder why they waste their supposedly amazing intellect and wide public exposure debating time on KZbin - most would not know them if they did not see this video and others like it - attacking and defending only these positions. Well, the public is also beLIEf-bound and unaware, so they would think it is a great issue to go on and on about. Even though Hitchins states the obvious and belabors his point, and despite this venue (or the video) allowing him only 3:37 (minutes and seconds) of speaking time versus 11:26 for Lennox, I give him the win, because God/gods as designer(s) falls apart under examination if going by how they and creation are described in religions. Lennox is worse with his incessant droning, and he keeps reinforcing that advancements in science are made possible only because God allows them. He speaks eloquently, but totally sidesteps the important issues. You can tell that that narrator at the beginning of the video is impressed by this, that he is caught up in the same exoteric SR beLIEf, and that he gives Lennox the win. In atheism there is no good or bad on moral level. Anything is permissible as long as you won't get caught or if you are in a high enough position in the society. You consider yourself as your only god but that god unfortunately is always the Devil. What good does Hitchen's worldview bring to the mankind? He brings no hope, no objective moral standard, not even scientific proof for God's non-existence. He works hard to make God as the image of man while the Bible tells it is the other way round. Man was created as the image of God but we rejected that image and started being self sufficient arrogant fools. That was the "gift" Charles Darwin's followers have given us. Their godless world is based on Darwin's views, but we should remember that Darwin's original theory was not 100% atheist.

I doubt that Mr Lennox actually believes the nonsense that he says he does..Some people crave attention and notoriety..seems like he is in the category..He must be aware that there is no evidence whatsoever that his imaginary friend is real.He must be aware the it has been proven beyond doubt that we humans are part of the family known as the great apes.it includes apes,gorillas,banoboes,orangatans,chimpamzees and humans.we are all cousins.we have a common ancestor.there were several other humanoid species that were our relatives but became extinct Chimpamzees are our closest cousins with whom we share 98.6 percent.we now know that the Genisis explanation of our beginning and the beginnings of the cosmos is a muddled incorrect mess..At least they were trying but they had no way of investigating claims for their veracity and the guesses were as expected incorrect at every turn.He must also be aware as a scientist that it is completely irrational to believe something (anything) that cannot be demonstrated to be true..But no matter,he enjoys being in the limelight..that what matters..to heck with evidence.

What is actually important about both of the arguments is that there is a huge difference between spirituality and religion. One can be agnostic and believe in something greater than science can explain, while also not subscribing to the doctrine of a religion.

But if you believe in something then you are not agnostic. What you wanted to say was that you can still believe without being religious I guess. I am not religious and don't believe literally in religions but I do believe in a higher being, a meaning, spirituality etc.
