Someone saying they like to fall asleep to your content is a VERY big compliment. It means your voice is soothing and you balance the audio levels well. Stupidly trying to fall asleep to something that is interesting to you is actually not conducive to you actually getting to sleep as your brain will rend to refocus as you attempt to fall asleep but it's something common amongst those who do choose to fall asleep listening to content and on the whole those of us who do ignore this factor and are very picky on the content we use to do so. On the upside if somebody loads up a playlist of your content ( which is what I do) then at least your view count is getting a good hit. I'll fall asleep listening to your videos and then during the day/ evening i'll go back and listen to ones that actually played while I was asleep and remember to click the like button at the same time.

The "falling asleep to your videos" thing is actually a compliment. Though it may be paradoxical, falling asleep to videos requires for their content to be interesting (because one of the reasons people listen to videos in order to fall asleep is that the videos silence their own annoying thoughts, and that only works when the content is good). That, in combination with a calm, friendly and pleasant narrator voice, creates the sleepy effect.

The cadence in your voice is the perfect formula to relax and Lullaby someone into a nice slumber, regardless of what you read. In fact you may want to contact those same sites that you advocate for and help them with their content as a voice-over to keep it real with you. It can't be overstated how MUCH I (for one) appreciate that you delve thoroughly into lesser known and less disastrous incidents in aviation, rahter than blindly chasing THE most shocking or horrific and harrowing misadventures and disasters, which are usually more famous by rote. AND you have a strong mellow voice that works well with almost any content. Some people are going to find it relaxing, and that's perfectly okay. Your timbre and enunciation is consistent and steady, with a pace that neither rushes through nor drags on, and with no peculiar pauses or poor attempts at "dramatic flair". You might be surprised at how many people simply don't manage such consistency in their own narrations and some of those idiosyncrasies can get annoying. Hope this helps... and you should find a certain pride in the fact that people like to fall asleep to your voice, even narrating something arguably awful to think about. If you take up coaching or instruction of any kind, you'll have a natural talent for keeping nervous energies relatively low and maintaining a "consummate professionalism" just for being present. ;o)

You voice is relaxing, but definitely not boring. I've watched a number of videos from other air accident channels, and yours is hands down the best that I've found. I really appreciate the deep dive analyses and the explanations of the science and mechanics of flying. Anyone can read an NTSB report into a microphone, but you add a lot more - I really learn from your vids. I also like that you choose some of the incidents that weren't as sensational, but resulted in concrete changes in practice at the time. Yes the Captain did lose the plane, and he used the incorrect recommendations to land in those conditions. But as fate would have he did not go into the bay and all the passengers and crew survived. So when you need the thrust reversers the most, you can’t use them. Great design!
@L33tSkE3t2 ай бұрын
You can still utilize the thrust reversers but, they must be used at a lower setting on this type of aircraft because of its engines being mounted at the back and directly on the fuselage. Placing them just in front of the T-Tail configured aircraft, with the rudder being just behind the exhausts of the two jet engines. Because these engines use bucket scoop reversers, too high of a reverse setting can disrupt the flow of air across the rudder and render it ineffective. It’s not necessarily a design flaw but, rather a different way in which this aircraft type (The MD-88) must be handled. It is still an incredibly safe plane but, like any aircraft, has different advantages and disadvantages depending on how it is designed and configured.

@@boas_ Because they were overloaded with planes that were lined up to land, and more on the way. And time is money as they say, and delays cost money, and piss’s people off. The reason many people, myself included, fall asleep to your videos is not because they are uninteresting but, rather that they are indeed, very interesting and, the information is extraordinarily well articulated and expressed in a calm demeanor with a soothing voice. The videos are interesting, so I want to watch them but, then I can put my iPad next to me and just listen to the videos while still being entertained and it helps to quiet my mind and because they are well edited, and presented in an equally soothing manner. Allowing me to relax until I can finally drift off to sleep. The fact that I can watch them as entertainment during the day and still want them playing as a way to relax and calm down before falling asleep is the highest compliment I could give to how great, incredibly well researched and brilliantly articulated I think they are.

I remember when this happened. There was question about the practice of engaging TRs upon MLG touchdown, prior the NLG touchdown. I dont know if this was mentioned in the final NTSB report, but some people were claiming to have seen this jet do the same. It was a common practice, and still is for many Russian jets and US military jets. Obviously, you slow down faster but sometimes, you might slow down in the direction you want. I remember hearing the recordings from VASAviation, and hearing how ATC couldnt believe it, even as Car 100 shut down LGA.

Amazing animation, subscribed!!! On the incident, I experienced a better pilot in an alomst equal situation. Austrian used a lot of MD-80s and on a winter day I was onboard a flight from Vienna to Prague. The pilot made a fly over of the runway in Prague since he (literally said this on the intercom!) didn’t trust ATC who said the runway was cleared. On fly-over he also saw too many uncleared patches, crosswinds and he was aware that this runway had a worse surface co-efficient (grooves helping with braking and water drainage) than the alternate runway in Prague which was not available at that time. He initiated TO-GA and went back to Vienna. If the pilot is concerned he should never attempt to land. We flew hours later again, with better weather and a cleared runway.

I found it amusing to have come across this comment. Been watching your videos for a while now and recently have been leaving your list on as I fall asleep. The content is great but there is something to be said about your narration skills. It’s definitely a compliment

I also fall asleep to your videos.. lol. It's not because it's not interesting, it's because of the calming tone and me still being interested in it, it's like a good night documentary

the falling asleep to your videos is indeed a compliment to your soothing nature.. Albeit, in content about some of the most stressful things people can encounter on this planet, aircraft accidents. Ironic but i like how you mentioned that. lol Not to make light of it, its serious content for sure.

Hilarious this is the first video I watched in the morning. Last night I woke up in the middle of the night and decided to watch one of your videos to fall back asleep. Your voice is soothing, and there's just something peaceful about your commentary (despite how terrifying the content actually is)

You should be thrilled as a KZbinR that folks fall asleep to your content!! Means they'll "watch" the entire vid and if auto play is on they'll be watching many more to the end.. ` It's counterintuitive but actually a REAL compliment to your ability to maintain consistency. Too many are trying to be like everyone else with extra AF nonsense in their vidz.. God Bless and thanks for your all effort.

You shouldn’t feel negative about us saying we like to fall asleep to your vids! I do It - right now it’s nearing bedtime for me. It’s more about finding a voice with a topic that is just right to be soothing! I discovered this about myself about two years ago 😮 It’s like being read to sleep 🤷🏽♀️

P.S. Whichever vid I do end up falling asleep to, I replay it to catch up on what I missed! So you’re getting two views ✌🏽🫠

Don't feel bad about people using YT videos to fall asleep. For many people they are a godsend because it helps with anxiety, depression, racing minds, etc etc. When people say a video is good to fall asleep with, it usually means there is a very good and calm voice over, the content is not overly and unnecessarily loud, visibly, with audio, etc. I use aviation (and other) videos to fall asleep, which means that I will not see the entirety of the last video in the row for that night. It does mean that, apart from being entertained and learning a lot about subjects I'm interested in, I'm able to fall asleep calmly, without pondering, tossing and turning, or other kinds of unrest. I can understand the idea of people falling asleep watching your video's is not immediately something you take as a compliment, as I'm sure from your side you put in a lot of time, effort and resources to make these great videos. I hope this explanation provided some more context and nuance, and that it makes you feel better about something you weren't sure it was a compliment. Oh, and don't worry, the video that I only saw partially, I will go back to the next day.

Take it as a win win. They enjoy the calmness of you voice and watching while they fall asleep means they dont finish the video so they will watch it again.

It seems to me, given the experience level of this captain, he shouldn't have been as stressed as he apparently was. Also, given the required runway conditions for a safe landing; he should've diverted in immediately after he saw the condition of the runway.

A lot of crews forget that jfk is 9 miles away, with huge runways! Passengers would barely be inconvenienced!

Would the plane have stopped safely had the thrust reversers been at a lower level or not used? I'm not so sure the pilot made a mistake.

Yes, if they had been at 1.3 EPR or less, the rudder would have remained effective, and the plane would not have slid off to the side.

@@northmaineguy5896 Yes exactly! But maybe he was holding for too long to make it to an alternate airport (possibly outside of NYC) at that point. Going around and coming back to the same runway wouldn't have made much sense either. It was all bad options, that's why he reacted the way he did..
