As someone who volunteered at the Caroline Tiger Rescue, unfortunately there are more tigers being raised in the US as pets than there are in the wild. Two of the tigers at the sanctuary were just sort of walking down the road in America when they were rescued. It's bad man.

That depresses me so much. These are beautiful animals that need to be protected lest they get extinct, and yet these people just think "lol cute big kitty, this will be fun!" I'm sorry but if any of these people get mauled, I have no sympathy for them. These are WILD animals that belong IN THE WILD, or at the very least a sanctuary where they're in a similar habitat and treated with the respect they deserve. Just awful, irresponsible behaviour.

Fun fact: Raising wild animals alongside humans INCREASES the risk of attacks, because it conditions them to view humans as slower weaker members of their own species and not as a potential predator. They (generally) won't attack the humans they live with, because they'll (usually) have imprinted on them as family (assuming the humans don't behave in ways that would provoke aggression within the animal's family unit), but you know how your dog reacts when the mailman is at the door? Imagine that but with tigers.

True story: Tippi Hedren’s most noteworthy movie is Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds,” which has a scene where she is attacked by crows, ravens, gulls and other birds. Because this was the 60s, the way they shot it was by having crew members FLING ACTUAL BIRDS AT HER. She almost lost an eye and called that part of the shoot the worst week of her life…and then 10-15 years later decided that shooting Roar without any safety precautions was a good idea.

I haven’t finished the video yet so I don’t know if Danny touches on this but their claims that no animals were harmed are almost guaranteed to be false. It was the 1970s, back then zoos didn’t even know as much as they do now about taking care of these animals, and these were just random people with no qualifications. You can bet that the conditions the animals lived in were poor and their diets were wrong and their overall health was probably really bad. They were probably incredibly stressed 100% of the time too. Maybe there wasn’t any direct abuse of the animals, but everything about the poor organization of this film tells me that these animals were not given proper care and they lived very uncomfortable lives. I’m sure no one was actively trying to hurt them, but they were still abusing them

"Nope" coming out before this re-release is iconic. Peele makes such a huge statement on humans exploiting animals for spectacle and turning tragedy around animal exploitation into spectacle. This re-release is literally what Jupe did in "Nope" to the event where his chimpanzee costar killed and maimed actors on set.
@Bluey3062 жыл бұрын
not to mention one of Jupe's problem is the fact that because of his (skewed) memory of what happened with the chimpanzee costar (thinking that the chimp was reaching out for a fist bump after killing/maiming everyone else), Jupe acts and believes like he has a special connection - and can form a special connection - with a wild animal. like a Disney princess. and it's often this belief that leads to the exploitation of these animals, making a spectacle out of it, as if they are on a higher plane of existence. this is contrasted with OJ who is good with horses because he understands that they are fundamentally wild animals, and in order to "tame" them you have to get to _their_ level, and even then it doesn't necessarily mean you have a "special connection" with them - just that you now know how to navigate with the animal and co-exist. it's what i get a lot from these people like the creators of "Roar", that they think that just because of something nice that happened with a wild animal or they raised it when they were cuddly cubs, that they have a unique and human connection with the animals. and it's like -- no!! not when you raise them or view them from human standards! calling them "wild animals" isn't """dehumanizing""" or """degrading""" them (real talk some people have this issue with the terminology) - that's literally what they are and you're doing absolutely zero favours to everyone by not _seeing_ that said animals can in fact destroy you in a heartbeat if you don't pay attention to how they function _as their own species._

If Tippi Hedren at her worst was never worse than her husband on a good day, then she probably never focused on herself (e.g., her thoughts, feelings, and behaviors). Maybe she felt insecure from constantly being in the public eye. Maybe she had unresolved trauma from the abuse she experienced in the film industry. Noel Marshall's character has a Kenyan friend who's the only sane character in the film, wisely refusing to go anywhere near the lions. He was played by Kenyan actor Kyalo Mativo, who wisely refused to go anywhere near the lions, and was thus one of the only people working on the film who didn't get injured. There's a great bit of behind the scenes footage of Mativo saying "where I come from - I'm African - we don't get close to lions. We don't cuddle them, we don't kiss them, we don't do that." So Tippi Hedren was sort of a celebrity "spokesperson" at a refugee camp my mum worked in. She stayed in a private trailer and put up a stupid little fence to prevent any of the orphaned children from getting close to her. According to my mum, she mostly spent her time talking about how Hitchcock ruined her career. One time they needed a folding table for something actually useful, and remembering Hedren's little trailer setup had a table, they rode over there on motorbikes and grabbed it while she wasn't around. I was being somewhat facetious. I was only trying to elude to the fact that she was constantly having birds thrust upon her and swarming or enveloping her, which is very similar sounding to how her life was with the original 24 lions in LA. Even at the compound, and especially later on set, herself along with others were constantly being swarmed too, but with pride animals in this case, and even worse tackled, wrestled with, aggressively pawed at, and even bitten and mauled. It seems ironic is all…trading a swarm of animals that you’ve grown to fear due to work conditions for another fearsome swarm of animals for not only your work but now your home life too. It’s pretty ironic to me…only difference is she and her husband were now in Hitchcock’s position of power as the creators of this expansive terror of a set.

apparently having exotic animals was like I thing around that time, my grandpa said he new someone who walked their lion around on a leash. he also new a middle school teacher who had a giant exotic snake in his classroom, but he had to get rid of it after it tried to swallow a little girl’s arm. ya, maybe wild animals like belong in the wild or something 🤷🏽♀️

I knew an elderly woman who had ordered a baby bear from a catalog when she was 8 and her parents took care of it for 6 years before giving it to a zoo
@char12112 жыл бұрын
The snake doesn't have to be that bad actually but it depends a lot on what type of snake it was and whether or not it was wild caught. If it was a boa constrictor raised in captivity it would've been a very nice and docile pet but if the girls hand smelled like food it would try to swallow her hand. It would've been very scary for her and it would've hurt but the snake isn't venomous or big enough to swallow any more than her arm and no snake would bite off part of a person, snakes always swallow their prey whole.

During the filming of 1986 “The Adventures of Milo and Otis” over 20 kittens were killed in the making of just a single scene, not to mention the scene where a pug is quite literally being attacked by a bear and the worst part is they can still put the “no animals were harmed during filming” even though many animals sadly lost their lives.
@emlynsword2032 жыл бұрын
This whole thing is crazier when you find out that Tippi Hedren’s big break was ‘The Birds’ where she was mauled by birds constantly and was extremely traumatized. (There were also claims that she was mistreated by director, Alfred Hitchcock during filming.) Makes you think, why would she ever want to work with animals again after that?

I’ve seen this movie twice and it’s amazing. It’s kinda terrible but watching the animals interact with the humans is both horrifying and fascinating, especially since probably half of the scary moments were moments where the big cats were acting affectionately/familial towards the humans. Scariest part of the movie was a giant tiger standing over Melanie Griffith and grooming the back of her neck…where a kitten would have a scruff and humans have thin skin over a fragile cerebral cortex😳 Also the reason behind raising the big cats together as cubs was so they would be less aggressive and territorial than if they were introduced as adults. NOT saying I condone or agree with any of this, just saying that was the “logic” behind that decision.

About that human fragility Another thing is, even if the animal had no intention to kill, actions such as play fighting, nips, a warning attack like the animal saying "cut it out" or "i don't want to do that" (usually harmless done to another of it's species) , or biting the scruff as one does to a kitten, all of those can severely injure or kill a human.
@marynewsom60372 жыл бұрын
@@ghostlyhousehorrors absolutely! The scene Danny played from the trailer, where Marshall’s on a bike and being chased by lions? In that scene, Marshall dismounts the bike and lovingly greets/plays with the various lions. It’s a bit sad when you hear something like this or in other classic movies where the actors are pushed way over their limit. However, i think they’re doing better nowadays. Like in Loki, Sylvie’s outfit was designed with easy access for Sophia Di Martino breastfeed her baby. Or decreasing the Inquisitor’s head size for Rupert Friend’s comfort because he’s doing a lot more than just walking a few steps. Things like that.

The 1928 Noag's Ark also had an incredibly high injury (and death) toll. 3 people are the confirmed attributed and there was a copy that existed that showed the people who drowned and it was released in the original theatrical version. That original cut is considered lost, though, but the revised version was preserved and can be watched on internet archive. It does still include the flood scene, so be aware you may be watching people actually die if you choose the watch the full movie. If I remember correctly, it is unknown whether the people who died are in the revised cut or not.

to be fair, it wasn't the lion's fault. also, to be fair, these people were never properly equipped to own wild animals in the first place. they were horrible parents for putting their kids in constant peril by having so many wild animals in the house, even if they had raised them from birth (which, to my understanding, they didn't). i do think most animals can bond with a human, especially ones as intelligent as big cats, but that does not mean that it's safe to own them; by taking responsibility for a wild animal, you accept the fact that they are alive and have minds of their own, and that if they hurt you, it's your responsibility too. what pisses me off the most isn't even that they put the kids in danger, though - it's that they put the animals in danger. 99% of the time, if a wild animal hurts a human, that animal is put down, just for being an animal. i think it was kevin hart that put it best (and correct me if i have the wrong comedian): "that tiger didn't go crazy, that tiger went tiger." it upsets me so much that people take these animals from their natural habitats to make a spectacle of them, then kill them when they act like they evolved to act. i'm glad tippy hedren is atoning, but it's so fucked that this movie was ever made, and everyone but the kids, who were coaxed into filming by their parents, should be in prison imo.

That kind of reminded me of a young lion, (not close to full grown and not small size where you can hold them), that was in this talk show in some Latin american country. Anyway a toddler was there close by and was loudly distressed and that triggered the animal's prey drive and grab the kid's leg. Luckily the kid was fine and the time they removed the animal, the claws didn't get through the skin yet. Anyway dangerous situation, it doesn't matter how young a wild animal is, Luckily everyone was fine but it's a situation that could easily end up a lot worse.

Milo and Otis was more dangerous in real life than the movie. It's a film about a pug and a tabby cat going on some crazy adventure but so many animals were harmed in the making of it: "According to a 1990 Australian newspaper report, more than 20 kittens were killed during its production and one cat's paw was intentionally broken to make it look unsteady when walking."
