(My comment is about 03:30 of this video) Seath is 100% (or almost 100%) blind. Epicnamebro has a video showing that if you use that ring that makes your footsteps silent and cast that sorcery that produces sound elsewhere, Seath will go towards the sound. He can't see a thing in that fight... he only attacks you because you're making noises. Also, you can notice that most of Seath's attacks hit in various places... as if he isn't even aiming.
@SilverMont11 жыл бұрын
That is very true! He has a lot of AoE and wide sweeping attacks. Who knows what the eye-sight of dragons is like? I know my cats, for example, have trouble seeing things that stand still, but are great at watching moving things, no matter how fast or small. Maybe my cats are actually dinosaurs and I never noticed.

It's rather ironic that Seath went mad studying the scales of immortality even though he was granted immortality by the Primordial Crystal. It seems he didn't really care about eternal life or the other rewards granted by Gwyn. Seath just wanted to know why he was born different from his kin, why he alone was the mutant outcast. Making things even more ironic, even if he ever did find a way to give himself scales, he'd still be a pariah among what's left of dragonkind due to his betrayal.
@vaasmontenegro83038 жыл бұрын
+mjuang84 My theory is that he's just a re incarnation of the original Seath that would have been killed in a different world.. The same could be said for Guyra and Kalameet. The flow of time in this universe is distorted, after all.

Not sure if this was mentioned in the video, but an interesting point: Seath was born without scales, and therefore mortal. He was mentioned to have been around before the Lord's uprising. This means that Seath's birth itself was a disparity, giving life and death to an immortal race. The point is, was Seath's birth caused by the disparity that led to the souls being found, or was Seath's birth *the cause* of said disparity. Personally, I think the second one is more plausible, since the fire seemingly came out of nowhere.
@sephimaru219810 жыл бұрын
If Seath's birth caused the first flame (in some way), what caused Seath's birth? Or in general: How do dragons "give birth" to something, when they should have no beginning? To me the "immortality" of dragons is a lie. They obviously can die, but their stone scales extend their lifes. I guess dragons can give birth (lay eggs) and get their stone scales from somewhat or they just grow onto them. But that's a contradiction, because it would mean that there was life and death even before the first flame.
@BlazeBluetm359 жыл бұрын

Seath is mentioned in the first king's field, the Japanese only one not the American one, as being created by a god, one of three gods that were supposed to watch over the world, two left and the third made Guyra and Seath to take his place but the two dragons fight instead. Lol didn't wait long enough for it!
@sirbig82929 жыл бұрын
I wonder if Seath wanted to create a female Dragon. He is the last of his kind as far as he knows. Even if Dragons are gender-less it is still possible that living among humanoids for thousands of years along with the male title "Duke" and the fact that most people referred to him as male made him assume a male role. He then tried wanted a female partner. Maybe this is the reason why he is so fixated on female humans. Considering Priscilla, maybe she was the result of an union between him and an humanoid or a failed try to produce a female dragon. Perhaps his wish for companions is also the reason why produced the serpentmen, the crystallization technique and why he spread the knowledge of sorcery. He just wanted to have people that are more like him?

@SilverMont11 жыл бұрын
Did I say human? I think I meant female. All of the firekeepers we know of are female. Fair Lady / Quelaag's sister isn't a human, you're right. The Witch of Izalith and her daughters were probably of the same race as Gwyn and co (giants, demi-gods, whatever they are)

Despite the niggle, all in all an interesting video. I've been quite enjoying your lore videos. You don't mind if I link to you in episode seven of my Dark Souls Lets Play? It'll be a while before it comes out (I keep a frankly absurd backlog of videos to upload) but your videos are an interesting alternative to Vaati's.

Well, if you compare her torso, and her (non demon) sister, the one who teaches you pyromancy stuff, it would be safe to say that they were human sized. That's just my assumption though.
@ThatTurboOwl11 жыл бұрын
Herp Derp I've always been of the opinion that the Giants do not refer to the races's size but to their power and that Dark Souls's visual sizes don't match up to the size kind of like in WoW where some human enemies would be twice your size despite them being, in lore, human sized. The Chaos Witches are human sized, but they are giants, because they are the direct descendents of the Witch Of Izalith who is one of the lords. Much like the Silver/Black Knights are giants and in service to Lord Gwyn, even the not directly related (and I think all the Wtiches we see in Dark Souls are direct relatives to the original Witch of Izalith) Chaos Witches are giants in service to the With of Izalith.

I dont actually that those squidie-things in the dukes archives are mistakes. I think that they are just early tests for what he wanted to create, which I believe is hydras. Yes, seath created the hydras and I'll explain why. The hydras and those weird squidies share a lot of similarities, the most apparent one is that they both shoot water at you. Now hydras have tentacles instead of legs, just like the squidies entire bodies is one big tentacle, with a head in top (their heads doesn't look like a hydrahead, but they were just early tests. Seath also kidnapped humans to create these thing, and I don't see why he wouldn't kidnap giants as well, and use these to create the hydras once he had done enough research on humans. This all means that the hydras are one or most likely several mutated giants, all in one body. Also seaths or creations tend to be around hydras.
@Dantick0910 жыл бұрын
Dragons do reproduce since being albino is a mutation, how could he have a mutation without genetics? And it woudnt be that far of a stretch to say his legs look like 2 aditional tails because of the mutation. Dark souls 2 and still cleaning up Seath's "failures".
@Hurmeri9 жыл бұрын
Dantick09 How does one reconcile this kind of logic AND the comment right at the onset of the game, how before "the advent of Fire, there was no life, no death... only the everlasting dragons and the arch trees"? That makes no real-life sense, either. Dark Souls' story sounds like mythology, not like an account of a fictional world that was intended to be scientifically consistent. Judging by director Miyazaki's own comments, that was entirely intentional.

Hurmeri Not everything has to make sence, especially the monent you accept to cast pryromancies magics and miracles. How do you know how it really was when there was no life? what if it's all a cycle of darkness and fire or the whole thing a fabrication to make Gwyn seem godlike.

I had the impression that the archives already existed, as it is mentioned that Logan went to seek the "Regal Archives" - and the Chosen Undead finds him in the "Duke's Archives". What I draw from this is that the tower on the hill had always been Gwen's library - referred to as the Regal Archives - and was subsequently granted to Seath upon becoming a duke. Seath used the knowledge contained within to learn about the Elder Crystal and its powers, creating crystalline stand-ins for scales - but going mad in the process.
@SilverMont9 жыл бұрын
David Hoffnung Yeah, it would make sense that it became known as the Duke's Archives once Seath took it up as his permanent residence. Although also interesting that it's so close to the Crystal Caves, which have the obvious connection to the albino.

One point to make: technically we do meet a firekeeper who is NOT human. The fair lady, even ignoring the fact that she's half demon, is a daughter of the Witch of Izalith. Now since the modern order of the universe didn't really become arranged until the Witch and company found their Lord Souls, we don't know if the daughters are the Witch's literal offspring, but it's safe to assume they are the same 'godkin' race as the Lords and their other nonhuman followers. The way I see it, all gods and humans are really the same sort of 'humanoid' beings, but alter into different races (human, god) depending upon what type of energy they hold within themselves. Darkness begets humans, and Light begets gods. So, really, any of these humanoids could potentially become firekeepers, but that requires generating a source of infinite humanity. Obviously since humans propagate humanity within themselves and the gods generally find darkness to be quite nasty, nonhuman firekeepers are mostly unheard of, the Fair Lady being an exceptional case.

You might include this in your next dragon video, if not What do you think about the hydra and the man eater shells, who I assosiate with Seath, down in Ash Lake? Are Seath's minions there to invade or protect the Everlasting Drago? And where does the Great Magic Barrier fall into the picture?

Seath is also conected to the Moonlight Buttery, and probably has ties with that weird forest cat.
@SilverMont10 жыл бұрын
Durin akaPaladin Seath seems to have created the Moonlight Butterfly, although I'm not sure if he has any connection to Alvina, as she plays quite a "neutral" role for the most part.
@PaladinHD10 жыл бұрын
Silver Mont I think she may at least know of him, since the moonlit butteryfly is in the same foresty area (kinda). So IDK just speculation that they may have some dealings with eachother. :D (Well of course she does her own thing, she's a cat.)

If im not wrong, Gwyn granted sith the archives to research how to get his scales, maybe he found out a way to replicate the scales but they are actually cristals and maybe thats what the cristal knight was looking for a way to find a stronger armor set since the cristal set are very powerfull but very low durability and the other horn guy that sells the armor stuff is either a scavenger that work along sith that sends people looking for sith in hope of stronger armor and at the end just keeps the items and sells them i think this because the first time you encounter it is just before the gaping dragon and he sims perfectibly comfortable sitting outside a room with a very angry dragon

Seath could be just a wordplay of the word "Seethe" - To boil, or to be agitated. 'He without scales, seethed with jealousy of his sibling dragons.' Seeing as how Seath is the grandfather of sorcery, maybe he devoloped something similar along the lines of 'Homing Soulmass' which allowed him to "see" where other beings are.
@SilverMont11 жыл бұрын
That's an interesting theory, about the homing soulmass, but if I recall correctly, it was created by Logan. Then he created the crystal version using "the knowledge" he acquired in the archives - so it seems evident that Seath had a lot of information regarding crystals. It seems to be a form of reinforcement - almost like fusing the soul with crystals, to make it stronger, more durable. And all of this, we can assume he learned by experimenting with the primordial crystal.

@thalesn11 жыл бұрын
Also, what's up with the bottom half of his body? It was like that in the intro too, so it's not because of the crystal.
@innegativeion11 жыл бұрын
The Everlasting Dragon in Ash Lake seems to have a similar anatomy to Seethe, assuming his lower body isn't just buried. The dragons in the opening cinematic, as well, are always in an upright position while grounded (al a Seethe and Ash Lake Guy), and while it's difficult to make out, the flying background dragons in the opening cinematic (the ones Gwyn hurls bolts at) look to have the same weird tentacle-like legs, Which is weird, since Kalameet has the Everlasting Dragons' third eye and is explicitly referred to as a "dragon", not a drake. Perhaps Kalameet and other legged dragons like him were the result of the Everlastings adapting to a new disparity-filled world. The drakes in this scenario being the genetic rejects.

If you want to check to see if he's truly blind you could try wearing the slumberingcrest dragon ring when fighting him. I know when fighting Gough in the DLC (if you decide to make him hostile) if you're wearing the ring he won't be able to find you and will go idle until you attack.

I actually tried that in my level 1 playthrough! I equipped the ring the first time you fight him, but he was spamming AoE all the same.

Hi, Alex! Today I was watching a past broadcast on twitch from one guy, he was playing DS2 beta. And he actually was wearing a Golden Wing Shield, wich reminded me your work (you were talking about it on your LP). I didn't see it properly so I might be mistaken. Is it actally yourth? Mb the developers connected to you? , As soon I saw it I just thought about you I swear. Sorry for the weird question and bad eng ^^
@SilverMont11 жыл бұрын
Oh! The Golden Wing Shield? I know the one you mean - it's not mine, but it is pretty close lol. Golden Wing is a green/gold kite with an eagle, mine is a black/gold with a phoenix. I called it Shield of Ash, but I expect FROM will re-name it when they put it in. There seems to be a lot of shields in the sequel with flying creatures on, I wonder what that could mean?

my guess is if they ever make a prequal to dark souls set during the war with the dragons(dragon souls?) the other dragon from kings field will be the final boss, or at least some sort of counterpart to seath

@cyrinaefox682811 жыл бұрын
Silver Mont The mechs are customizable. one of the weapon types you can equip them with is energy swords, mounted on the arm. The Moonlight sword is in every game in the series, and is the strongest. As an energy sword, it looks quite a bit different, but the blade (when active,) is still translucent blue, like in Demon's/Dark Souls. armoredcore.wikia.com/wiki/MOONLIGHT

Seath's betrayal wasn't just stealing the Crystal though, it was also turning a part of that crystal into the Moonlight Sword, and giving it to King Jean Alfred Forrester, so that he may help slay the last dragons during the war against the dragons. In King's Field 2 (the known as King's Field in America) You play as Alexander, who is a mercenary/knight, hired by Alfred to retrieve the Moonlight Sword that was stolen by Guyra.
@SilverMont10 жыл бұрын
General Durandal That's King's Field, though! And the Moonlight Sword shows up in most From Soft games, to be fair. Hell, it even shows up in a game I'm currently recording that nobody has managed to guess, haha
@GeneralDurandal10 жыл бұрын
Silver Mont There are more connections between the King's Field games and Dark Souls. That one is just the most obvious. I've played through King's Field 2,3,4 and 5,(and still own them) and each has connections to the lore of Dark Souls. Mmmm, I've played all the Tenchu games, so I know it's not one of them. I'm gonna make 5 guess! Shadow Tower? Otogi? Kuon? Armored Core? Modal Suit Gundam Unicorn?
@SilverMont10 жыл бұрын
General Durandal None of them, either! It's a fairly modern game, too. Weird as hell, which is one reason I chose it for a LP because it just has so many "what" moments.

What if the Crystallization that grows on Seath is a result of a mistaken experiment to create Eternal Scales.
@Markis2bi411 жыл бұрын
Why was Seath's body so serpent like at all? I remember seeing the Ever Lasting Dragon Kalameet (pardon any miss-spelling) having legs... Maybe the Serpents - such as Kaathe - had something to do with Seath's deformity? And what about HOW dragon's were made? Were they always "there" to begin with, or were they, say, born from the earth itself?
@Kirbin2411 жыл бұрын
Seath was trying to become immortal by experimenting on himself so he probably warped his body, notice how his creations are also serpent like.
@Markis2bi411 жыл бұрын
But in the opening cinematic, we see Seath's body the same (if not similar) as when we, the Chosen Undead, meet him for the first time (by first, I mean when he wasn't waist deep in crystals). It is possible he warped his body at some point during his pursuit for eternal life (or I as I call it: chasing the Oroboros), but it could not have been before we met him; when at the time when Seath betrayed his kin. I still think he was a result of a birth defect, and even perhaps an ill omen to the dragons - ergo his ostracism - but that would mean dragons biologically reproduce, even though neither word nor mention has been made about it.
@Zeonis11 жыл бұрын
Maybe he's a hybrid. We do know that Seath is very smart and serpents do use words instead of claws, Maybe his intellect made him an outcast.
@Markis2bi411 жыл бұрын
If that's so, we should have at least him speak at all. I mean, do dragons speak similar to Humans, or is it telepathy?
@Zeonis11 жыл бұрын
Markis2bi4 Well dragons and humans are two different species, and I think the reason Frampt and Kaate can talk because either 1.) Since there "pure" serpents they'er able to manipulate *all* species. 2.) the abyss changed there bodies for the sole reason to spread the abyss. 3.) They learned it and only they, serpents, with there human like face can speak human, giant, and lord And dragons probably speak like all animals, sounds from there face hole.

some food for thought, you think seath is *partially* blind and also *partially* absorbed by crystals from basilisks...

So, why did Seath dump a bunch of his experiments in Darkroot Basin, where Kalameet died years before? Was it to guard the secret portal to the past? Are the Hydras guards, created by Seath to stop people reaching the Stone Dragon and freeing Dusk of Oolacile? I think the Golems are strewn about to kill Undead attempting to go back in time.
