I think, personally, that Vader letting Obi-Wan go was because he felt in the force and lightsaber skills that Obi was weak and pathetic. I'm pretty certain after 10 years of pent-up rage Vader wanted a proper duel to humiliate Obi-Wan. Kenobi clearly isn't a threat, nor will there be as much satisfaction as he was expecting by defeating this Kenobi compared to the one who dismembered him. However, the network is something that needs to be destroyed that's getting force sensitives to safety. Destroying that is something worth getting, so letting him get rescued gives him leads and when he comes across Kenobi again, the suffering shall resume.

I like how they’re building Darth into a more intimidating and evil character than he has been in the past. There's clearly only a few places that a tunnel like that could lead and she has access to vehicles and a direct root to the port. Vader lets him go because this is just the beginning of his pain. He is confident he can find him again and so like an Orca with a seal, he'll let him get away knowing it is more horrific and traumatic to know he was beaten this time and is still being hunted. Plus, Vader has shown throughout that he doesn't pivot well when his plans are stymied...eg, Falcon escape on Hoth and Leia's escape in Rogue One. He has time on his side, so he takes his time. So this is not an oversight, it makes perfect sense for this character.

Vader clearly let him go at the end. Something tells me he wants Obi-Wan's best shot. He saw his former master's current state and deemed it pathetic and futile. He saw him as basically a scared, old, man. This must be what Hayden Christensen referred to when he mentioned Anakin potentially being still conflicted. He certainly wants his revenge, but it needs to be on his terms...
@nefariousarcher24842 жыл бұрын
The best way to describe it is that Anakin/Vader was like a case of multiple personality disorder. Vader was the dominant persona repressing Anakin, who developed slowly as Anakin's front against pain, disappointment, hate, and suffering. Vader would seek revenge against Kenobi for putting him in this state, Anakin would know its his own fault, not Kenobi's. I'd bet there's many times where Vader may do something that seems out of character for Vader... but if you think of it as that Anakin was strong enough to influence Vader's behavior, even for a moment, then you realize it's out of character because it's not entirely Vader. Vader's order of "bring him to me" moves one of the troopers into position to be shot by Kenobi's ally. He also extinguishes the flames and pushes Kenobi away instead of towards him. Then allows him to be rescued. People will claim "that's not true, there was no conflict until Luke", but that's an observation made by in-universe characters and subject to biases. The actor playing Vader has stated there will be conflict in Vader and that's now a canon statement, especially if the show demonstrates it.

That's *why* Vader let him to live, besides, Vader prefer to torment Obi-Wan, to remind him his failures and his failure of saving Anakin years ago, that's why Vader was toying with him.
@ukmaxi2 жыл бұрын
Multiple reasons: Vader might feel conflicted (from the good that is still in Anakin). Or, it is the ruthless sadistic Vader we know of during his peak of being Evil in that he wants to torture Obi-Wan as much as possible. Giving Obi-Wan some hope by escaping now means they will not end their life through lack of hope and devoid Vader of his satisfaction of torturing Obi-Wan for as long as possible. Also, Vader is powerful, intimidating but he is slow and is always in pain thanks to his suit and the fact he was burnt and had his limbs removed. That being said, the more likely reason is a mixture of conflict as well as wanting to savour the torture.

Very little is thought through. First the jedi at the bar gets away by knocking down a small shade that can be easily walked around. Then Kenobi says the fight is over to the other jedi despite sticking around to eventually train Luke so they can continue the fight. Then Leia outruns two adults in a straight run while they run into branches that they can clearly see and duck under. Now Kenobi uses an unarmed being as a body shield (out of character..also steals) and is bossed around by a 10 year old who he can easily levitate with the force if she tries to walk away or refuse his direction. He could take the vehicle (Imps will now be looking for him after shooting the probe droid), but instead continues on foot and has trouble with a gate that you can just walk around. Then surrenders before the Imps stop the shuttle, let alone get off. All three could of left in the tunnel and got out of the city, but no, Kenobi stays behind to face Vader? Only to run away realizing his is out-matched with no plan to escape? The imp officer helping Leia just abandons her half way down the tunnel and why? Vader easily blows out the flames with the force but is unable to do so seconds later? The lady shooting does not even bother to shoot at Vader. Vader can levitate Kenobi but cannot do so seconds later when he is getting away. For those saying Vader let Kenobi get away, you understand that the galaxy has BILLIONS of planets and that there is a strong chance Vader will never see Kenobi again. Kenobi is suppose to train Luke when he is old enough (about 10-12 years away?) yet buries his light sabers and stops using the force? How can you train someone in the force if you can barely use it yourself? If Kenobi fears being noticed by using the force, then how will he eventually train Luke in the force, would not two force users be more noticeable than one? They could of easily had Kenobi continue to be a full strength master Jedi if he had found a place that had a dark side void that would mask his presence, like Yoda did on Degobah (the dark cave). We would of got an epic rematch between Kenobi and Anakin now as Vader, with Vader thinking he left Kenobi to die (roles reversed), but Kenobi uses Qui-Gon Jinn as a force ghost to relay a message to Bail to come rescue him. But with Kenobi looking like he can barely lift a light-saber, there will not be an epic light saber duel.

Darth Vader think must running around a fire is beneath him - and flying over is still scary for him

Maybe once Vader saw Obi getting outside help he figured that if he let him go he could track the whole network and kill more escaped Jedi.

I think Vader felt he was weak. He's been waiting 10 years for this duel and to prove he is more powerfull and decided to let him go train to confront him again to be humilited and tortured even more. That's just my theory and let's not forget Vader was still a beast, but had PATIENCE.

If he uses the force they can sense it

I was thinking the same thing - just walk around the laser fence

Vader wants Obi so suffer. If he les him get away, it gives Obi another opportunity to suffer more and worry Vader will get him again. There's nothing more terrible than the fear of another attack.

Obi-Wan's taking a lot of Ls -- and we're half-way through the series! Obi needs to step up to the plate soon. And yeah, I question how Reva got to Leia so fast. But seeing Vader was AWESOME! I think he's just toying with Obi-Wan at this point to prolong the suffering.

Reva getting to her so fast doesnt bother me. She seems to have acute tracking ability like the JEdi in Clones Wars that they mentioned in the episode. What disturbs me is that she let a child go alone.

When Darth Vader said "You should have killed me when you had the chance". I think he would've killed him but during that time everything happened so fast.
