If it was such a big thing, why are nations happy to play in a tournament held in Qatar? Players from your club are going over there and are being paid for it. Yet how many have spoken out against Qatar? How many psg players have spoken out about Qatar? If its OK for all of them to go and make money, why shouldn't Beckham? If you were in his position and were offered what he's been offered, would you accept? Of course you would and that would make you hypocrites too!

It's not exactly difficult when he's been interviewed by his gimp, sidekick mate. He's hardly David Frost or Jeremy Paxman. The last part of the interview was so transparently the PR push though, so you could say his PR training wasn't that successful when you can see the strings and the cogs turning in real time. Of course I suppose no amount of PR skill and media training can distract from the things that happen in Qatar.

The response to Beck's red card in 1998 is honestly one of England's darkest moments in our football history. I truly believe that. Yes I'm a Utd fan and yes Becks was a childhood hero but regardless of who you support, you can't hide from the fact as a nation, we let ourselves down terribly in that moment. To have the career he had, to go and do the things he did, he's an England legend and we can't ever allow what happened, to happen again.
@temporaryuseraccount00122 жыл бұрын
He did arguably cost England that game (and therefore the tournament) with that totally unnecessary act of petulance. So, there's also that. Did some England fans (who weren't also Man United apologists) go too far in his condemnation? No doubt. However, Becks has never really been very apologetic about what he did to get that red card. Yes, he now admits that he regrets getting the card. But, he should have come forward straight away after England's exit from the tournament and publicly apologised for having being so reckless and he would probably have earned more forgiveness from a lot more of the public, much sooner. For the record, I wasn't one of those who condemned him afterwards. I just thought he was a bloody idiot for reacting the way he did in that moment. But I also thought he should have made more effort to genuinely apologise to the fans, and could understand the emotions of others, since he didn't take responsibility and apologise for his actions.

@@temporaryuseraccount0012 I think the intelligent element of England supporters realised that whilst what Beckham did was silly, the reaction to a flick of the foot by Simeone was cynical, and the red card from Nielsen was ridiculous. Sadly that midfield didn’t really work as well as it should have. Maybe having an unselfish ball winner who can play a tight pass - such as Rice - might have helped. We needed a strike partner for Rooney, why not Kane? And Saka would have been a great bench option, although I recall we weren’t blessed with pace in 2000’s. So he offers something different.

Despite the whole controvesy over Qatar and his endorsment etc. but it's so hard not to love Becks, one of the few players you could tell genuinely loved playing for England and was so proud to captain the side. I'm not a fan of any club side he played for but he's such an easy guy to like. Reminds me a bit of Harry Kane in the obvious pride he feels that he captained his country.

I am an Indian kid who started following football around the time Beckham was at the last leg of his Man Utd career but I saw all his England matches and follwed his career till his last match for PSG. Even tried watching his MLS and AC Milan matches despite not having great access in those days. I had giant posters of him all over my room. People say his prime was his United days. Must be true. But even in the MLS and for Milan, he produced some world class goals and crosses and was just a great midefielder. I do wish he had stayed in Europe for longer for the sheer joy of watching him play. An absolute legend of the game. Best crosser and free kick taker of all time.

I don’t think he’d ever get into coaching or management. Which is a shame because he was such a technically gifted player, and those skills could be passed on to others easily. He won’t do it because he’s his own brand now and is unlikely to drop it all. He owns multiple businesses, he is the face for multiple brands, he’s the ambassador for several corporations and charities to name a few things. He won’t have the time.
