i know that this halter-removal could be brought down to the lowest-common-denominator of 'just a halter removal', but what i just watched and witnessed, for me, was emotional, from the steps and stops and starts, to the removal, and then little miss's releases of licks, and yawns, and peace. good job graeme!

I haven't thought about having a horse in a very long time, but seeing this adorable, snorty-shorty little girl, I want her!😍 This reminds me of taming feral cats - I would put a spoon with food or a brush on the end of a long stick at first. It worked very well to acclimate them to human interaction, the way it's working for this girl.

Wow. Look at all the licking and chewing at the end. Does that mean she’s very relaxed as I’ve been told? And to me, she really does appear happy especially with the yawning. Looks like your massages have a sedating effect. Just amazing. She’s definitely a favorite. Wish I was there.
@StableHorseTraining3 жыл бұрын
Licking and chewing 99% of the time means the horse was freaked out because of something I was doing and finally found a moment to relax. So yes... in the end it kind of means that, but it's because of me that she had to show it so obviously. That said, I'm sure that having that thing off was a good feeling and she's stretching out some ligament, tendons and muscles a bit more now that she can.
@kkdoc78643 жыл бұрын
@@StableHorseTraining but does that mean you did something wrong? It didn’t appear that you had. In other words, when you have to teach a horse to accept human interaction, and you do it in such a gentle way as you did, that it still freaked her out too much, and that you should have done something differently? Is that chewing behavior a yardstick to measure if you should do less? Or is it expected because most new things introduced to a horse can cause fear?
@StableHorseTraining3 жыл бұрын
Sort of yes. What it means is that whatever I did caused her fear. Too much pressure too fast for her liking. The "release" is going back to a normal state from a heightened state, caused by me. I am looking forward to being so good that I don't even cause that if I can unless I'm doing it on purpose. So... I consider it a sign of making a mistake of doing too much even though the norm of horse training is to chase them off etc and that becomes the bar of "too much". I believe my bar is higher so I can attain results faster and more effectively with minimal fear. I'm not sure if I could have done too much differently, I'll know next year as I continue to learn and grow and again look back on previous training methods and be frustrated at myself for being so dull.
@kkdoc78643 жыл бұрын
@@StableHorseTraining you? Dull? Oh please lol. I appreciate your self reflection, but be kind to yourself, too, not just to your beloved horses. We all grow and learn with experience, but we also need to give ourselves grace during the process when our heart is in the right place. Btw. It sounds like Zeus is not feeling so well these days. Know that my prayers are with you guys, because losing a family member is devastating. I lost my golden “Avery” 2 years ago age 14, and I still become emotional over that.

Great job, she's gonna be a great friend. Surprised you didn't mention that yawning is a sign or the horse releasing tension, which they tend to store in their jaw when nervous.
@StableHorseTraining3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I think that's true, yawning and stretching the jaw is a way of hopefully releasing built up tension in the TMJ etc. Humans do it too and clench their teeth a lot. I'll make a video about the yawning/licking/chewing thing in time I think. It's a good topic.

She is so sweet, calm and trusty as Wildie was too! The halter must have been there for long, too tight, marking the skin. She must have been relieved! Thank you so much for your gentleness as usual with horses that had a life story we don't know.. I know she is not pregnant but her tommy seems a bit round, has she been dewormed yet?
@StableHorseTraining3 жыл бұрын
I think the halter was on for a few weeks for sure, possibly longer but I don't know. It wasn't too tight but she had to sleep on it when she put her head down, hence the lack of fur and abrasion in the spot with the knot. I was told she was dewormed. I think the roundness is just from poor feed, the hay she had was likely low quality.

I think it's a big relief to her too and hopefully it will allow her to feel more comfortable and at ease here. I think the halter was painful too, especially when she would lie down for a sleep. I don't know how long the halter was on for, at least weeks for sure. It actually wasn't on too tight for a proper fit for a halter, it was just on too long. I don't have a wildie account for her, she's not mine actually, I'm just lucky enough to be part of the team rescuing her.

Yo, I got some questions. When purchasing a horse, what do you look for for your business and the horse itself? Like what kind of health, if it's been trained before or ridden. It seems, you love to help out problem horses. Also how far would you go with buying a horse with a lot of problems lol. Also how do you know what it needs to eat etc, because I know some horses can't eat grass, so I was just wondering on who do you talk to when it comes to making these decisions, besides... your wife. :)
@StableHorseTraining3 жыл бұрын
I don't look for horses, so I wouldn't be able to say really. They just show up... if I were to look, I'd look for healthy, young horses with energy. A personality that shows them to be nice with humans. I wouldn't go far at all, there are piles of horses all over the place. Horses eat hay, it's that easy. I don't know a single horse that can't eat grass at this time. If I did have questions, I'd talk to my vet :)
@mitchd4343 жыл бұрын
@@StableHorseTraining lol, I just thought you had some advantage to buying horses, compared to some other people. :) That's nice you got a aback up plan in case things go wrong. if I had the money I'd go for it in the right place, and have a back up plan as well, in case things go wrong. I do tend to over think it, but really, it's pretty easy as long as you have the space for it. So I'm just a bit curious on where you found your new horse? You find seem to find the most relaxed horses. So I assume you look for places with great horse care. I just thought their was a bit more to it.... well, sometimes in life, you just have to go for it. Thx!!

@@StableHorseTraining Well, that explains it. Anyway, I came up with a plan, that may not happen. If my brothers and I have enough money, I'd like to have some land to put 3 small houses on it, and we'll have a pond, and paddock space as well as a nice 4 stable barn, and a small fish pond and a garden with a trampoline next to it as well as a swimming pool for all of us. That's my plan now days.... Then by the barn would be my tiny home and their would be a heated room next to the barn with a pool table, and the ps5 for gaming... etc. At this other barn I saw some solar powered lights that light on when walking buy, so that would be great to add for part of the fence line. This is of course, as long as we have enough money. O and a zip line, dirt bikes. mountain bike course perhaps, as well as blue tooth rock speakers, and a hammock/tree swing, and a horse trail that goes by the pond and mini fish pond too, also we'll have nice wooden benches by the trail and garden area and solar panels on the barn as well as a mini fridge/cleaning room with heated tack room etc, by the garden will be a nice trampoline. Or when I'm 40, I can go live in the plains of Oklahoma, Chase Storms and lease out a horse, have a sports car perhaps, and solar panels, and a dirt bike of course as well as a part time job. Now which one sounds better.... You know me, I am a slow learner, but I love to day dream!!
