After about 4 weeks of getting my first longboard, I was hopeless at foot breaking. For the past week and a half, I've spent many hours riding my longboard one footed. I have a regular stance, so I've been focusing on riding goofy and balancing on my right foot (and my left foot to a lesser extent). Doing this has really improved my balance and foot breaking ability, and now I'm almost as good at riding switch as I am at riding regular. I really want to learn how to slide (I'm interested in downhill), but I'm afraid of falling. I haven't fallen yet, despite skating down some hills (which was terrifying at times) and not being able to foot break. I'm also concerned about wearing down my wheels too quickly. I wish I knew, as a complete beginner, how to start practicing slides. I have a helmet, wristguards, and safety pads for my elbows and knees.
@ZackRamsey144 жыл бұрын
What ive been doing is just practicing little toeside kicks with my back foot at slow speeds while in a carve. you can actually slide alot this way if you decompress correctly. Basically, go into a hard toeside carve (even slow) with your back toe slightly off the toe side of the board. Decompress (go from low and knees bent and stand up still with knees bent) and then kick out the back with your toe side of your back foot. I've done a few around 90 degrees even at very slow speeds. It's gonna feel wierd at first but it's a safe option to get the feel of sliding and how your wheels will react.

I haven’t been able to do a single foot stop. I watched so many tutorials on KZbin and they very briefly mention to just put back foot next to front foot to slow down and unless I’m going super slow, it catches every time. I have to try putting my heel down first and slowly put down my entire foot but it sounds like a helpful suggestion.

@benxtfitz28713 жыл бұрын
This happens to me to u figure it out?
@alexstavrev25273 жыл бұрын
@@benxtfitz2871 That is most likely because you still cant balance super well on the board only on one foot so you instinctively try to get a 'step' with your breaking foot. I would advise you to just try slowing down while you are riding with moderate speed and just dragging your foot on the ground besides your board. U can literally even make your breaking foot limp and let your toes drag on the ground. This is obviously not the correct way but you will learn to not stomp on the ground. Then you can gradually learn how to fully stop while dragging your heel.

When breaking at high speeds change your mentality from snowboarding to skiing: Dont slam, but try to get your foot on the ground as fast as possible to be able to stand on both again - dont be afraid of breaking just because you cant stand on one foot, you dont have to ^^ Edit: My balance gets up very high once the foot touches the ground even lightly, at a point where i dont even break - but i can start putting on more pressure from the point.

I live next to a looong stretched hill. I drove all the way down and as I was going, I soon realized: I was fast... Very fast and I almost reached my house... Well my only solution was to jump of, start running, falling down cause my feet couldnt catch up with my current speed, and slid 1 and a half meter on the road... I still have a bruise after two years now (its just a slight discoloration if you compare it to the main color of my arm. it's like a little pinkish patch. It won't go away. one thing i had to figure out that no one talks about for footbraking, is that you want to index your foot with your board, put your foot right up to your board so that your ankle is touching it, that way its less likely to catch and be more consistent...kinda like how you index your heel on the floor when your using the gas pedal of a car so that your able to know how much pressure to put down
