DC Throwing Jon Kent Back Into The Transgender Well

Few characters have been so mishandled by DC as Jonathan Kent. When we met him after Rebirth, seeing Superman now in the role of Pa Kent, and teaching young John the lessons he learned as a youth was some of the best reading to be found at the time. Basically, Andy Taylor and Opie, but with superpowers. Turning him into a teenager and needlessly turning him into an LGBTQ character -- which effectively kills the character because then they only exist as a reminder to the reader about their sexuality -- ruined him.

Actually I bet Jay broke Waller out of jail so he can deal with her. He has plans for dreamer also. Remember she killed his mother and committed war crimes against his nation. What would be more interesting is they show LGBTQ characters not getting along just cause they are in same group.

Yeah, a Lot of the turning stablished male characters bi, in particular teenage ones, seems to be in part to appeal to fujoshi fangirls. One of the few turned bi characters I thought was done well was Black Cat in Spidergirl. Because they didn't make a big deal about It.

Indeed Superman Jr is a example of badly written bi character, while Constantine is a example of a great written 1. As with Constantine his character comes 1st, while with Superman Jr is being bi 1st and mostly/only thing (same with him siding with ppl that want control Mother Nature). BTW i am bi as well.

For real! I'm glad you and others can tell that this isn't representation at all. This is exploitation! I'm puerto rican, but I can't help but cringe when they make being Hispanic a character's selling point. It's just so easy to see through the facade. It was never genuine. I’ll just reiterate: make the adult Jon Kent a Durlan agent who thought he is or had to pretend he is Jon Kent for whatever reason. Maybe a sequel to Armageddon 2001 from way back when? Anyhow the adult Jon Kent we’ve come to know is really a Durlan agent who,has fallen in love with Jay Nakamura and Dreamer. Meanwhile the real Jon Kent is still a kid and has been in suspended animation for whatever reason(s). They can even say the Durlan agent is locked in his “adult Jon Kent” for and becomes part of the Superman Family with a change to “Jon”. Maybe he starts using the French “Jean” or the Spanish “Juan” or “Johnny”. I don’t know. tl;dr adult Jon Kent is a shapeshifter while the real Jon Kent is still a kid.

I wonder if this comic would show Dreamer telling Jay that she’s alive all throughout Absolute Power and that she was forced by Waller to join the Suicide Squad because she kidnapped her family. I also wonder if this limited series will lead to Jon and Jay breaking up (because Jon’s identity is secret and Jay’s identity is public and that people only see Jay with Super Jon and not regular Jon), Jay becoming a villain (or lawful neutral character) who’s willing to protect Gamora from harm after Waller destroyed and infiltrated it during Absolute Power, and that they realized that them moving to San Francisco (even though Jon didn’t graduate from high school, go to college, or have any qualifications) was a bad idea because they thought that it would save their relationship. Let’s hope that they’ll find Waller and send her back to prison so that we won’t see her ever again (unless a good writer aside from Nicole Maines knows how to write Waller as Jon Ostrander’s version and not a generic villain). Overall, I’m intrigued to what’s going to happen.

Nicole Maines writing is fairly solid. Shame the characters aren't so interesting. If they'd just turn Jay into a villain and then bring back Ash - who Jon did have chemistry with - it would work better.

Nicole Maines issue is she doesn't write Dreamer as Dreamer should be but rather writes Dreamer as a self insert of Nicole Maines. A lot of narcissistic writers are doing this in modern comics and it sucks. Nicole Maines is a decent actor but as a comic book writer, she lets her narcissism get the best of her.

Well making her a bio female would make sense, as she is supposed 2 be a ancestor of real Dreamer, as fake/tv show Dreamer is a post-op trans (at show hinted she was post-op like the person that played the character and comic version is based on that 1) and thus couldn't have biological children anymore.

Most ruthless supervillains I would not describe any of those three as ruthless I mean black Alice is just a traumatized child she's not really evil the most ruthless stuff that she has done was killing granny goodness , catman has not been a super villain in more than like what 3 decades the only reason why he is here is because he is popular as a classic member of secret six , and for those who wander Deadshot has returned during absolute power no explanation and similar to catman who have seen him being a super villain is so rarely that berley counts. I know there will be people who would like this series at the beginning they always stop reading after one or two issues personally there's not much I care about this team when is another declaration that dc genuinely does not know what to do with John. Personally I will keep just reading Superman and be happy with that ❤️

Catman is cool. He was the closest thing to a rode model in the original Secret Six. His golden age stories were great, but DC made him a Batman villain after they acquired the character.

Well if you read the Villains United and the Secret Six series you will see that Catman was upgraded and given a serious take by Gail Simone. This was when she was really in a groove writing and doing nice work. Now as a retailer I will not take much risk on this book because it is not really Secret Six and I don't expect the base for this book to want it. If it was like the original Secret Six premise...the villains the villains have problems with...then that'd be a different story. So no risk on for this. WTF20.

I agree, I liked Secret Six when Gail Simone wrote it, was one of my favorite books. I like Catman, and the seriousness she gave him in that series, but I also like reading comics where the bad guys are the main characters allowing us an opportunity to see things from their side. It would be interesting to see how much revamping DC did on Catman, considering he was a 1940's character. At least with Ghost Rider, Fabulous Human Torch, Daredevil we've gotten to see how Marvel revamped those guys in the 60's+70"s. If this Secret Six comic is not about a group of villains but consists of 3 villains, 3 hero's and the focus has to be on gayness, thanks DC for killing the Secret Six I won't buy this book. Thanks for killing Secret 6 for me DC.

As some that finally had enough and absolute power was breaking point on DC not even worth pirating this crap anymore last month have been so much happier not reading them and looking at the DC Universe ENDED on 2024. Marvel Comics is just as bad and seriously looking to add them to Dead universe Status. From Main Publishers down to Spawn Universe and Energon Universe thats it. Was tempted to check out the new valiant but they seem to be going in a direction to repeating past mistakes so didnt bother. These publishers right now are so bad makes me look foundly on 95-2000 marvel and DC which I never thought would ever happen at least in that time from where a few titles that where still worth reading
