People seem to think just throwing Heihachi back into the STORY is no big deal. He should be back as DLC as a non-canon character (people forget he really wasn't apart of T5 but he was still playable). The story of T7 built up to him giving his all to try and stop Kazuya and why he was trying to kill him and it ended with him dying. It was the only good part of that game. They had that sad song at the end. Kaz got his just due revenge. Reina's existence has substance with Heihachi dead. Now what? His story arc is done, what more can you do with him? The thing that bothers me about it is folks coming in droves to act like anybody with any investment in the actual stories of a fighting game series is a loon that's doing it wrong. Fgc tries to gaslight you thinking you should only care about how labbing BnB's and learning frame data, and daring to get invested in anything beyond how cool the character looks is head scratching to them. Because how dare you give a damn about the aspects of these games the devs also (ideally) put time and effort in like writing reasons and backstories for why these cool designs fight, their interactions with others, the worlds they live in and conflicts they face? When they put that effort in and present it seriously, why would you, as a fan, dare take it seriously? Saw someone say earlier it's like the controversial "functions" quote but repackaged. They don't give af about the actual character of the characters or the narrative. They just want their favorite function back. Time and time again i see a lot of the fgc lowkey prove that quote true. It's why I separate them from folks that are simply fighting game fans, the mentality on certain things keeps them from truly meshing well together.

I'm not looking for that out of my *2023/2024 Fighting Game* that has _a story mode_ , sometimes _tie-in comics_ , sometimes *_a whole animated series._* And this is not even mentioning a whole culture of Lore Fans and _Theorists_ that make whole channels dedicated to these things. Here's my problem: Bison made sense. Bison's ENTIRE schtick is that he won't die because he endlessly possesses and swaps bodies. He is like trying to kill a ghost. That, and the World Tour mode hinted at his return from the very beginning as JP pretty much assured us he was just holding onto money and affairs for someone else in the meantime and a lot of the subtle mentions now retroactively make more sense. Likewise, they are pretty much outright stating Balrog and Vega will be returning as well. Street Fighter has been up front about these things and, at the very least, Bison appears to be heading in a different direction than his usual self this time. Still, I think reducing him to the role of a horrific nightmare entity, ghost or some other would have been much cooler; like Oni's alternate skin in SF4 that had him cracked up and broken as his Hadou seeped out of his body, but with Bison. Heihachi on the other hand is unforgivable. Yeah, his schtick was also being "invincible" and hard to kill... But they focused SO MUCH marketing on the fact that he was now dead and that the "Mishima Saga is over". This feels incredibly shoehorned and cheap, not to mention the timing of Bison makes it feel like they were just riding his coattails. Heihachi SHOULD have been reduced to the role of Jinpachi and returned as a "what if" scenario like Robo Heihachi or Nightmare Heihachi. But no, they went with the laziest, most low effort route of just having him re-alive himself. How? Doesn't matter. Why? Doesn't matter. He's back again and the entire narrative weight of Tekken 7's already bad story is even worse now. And Tekken 8's story? Jesus... Nothing has changed. Heihachi is still alive, Kazuya is still alive, nothing has actually changed in the family... No, NOTHING HAS CHANGED. That's the entire problem here. Team Tekken effectively wrote two stories in a row that were supposed to be engaging and have serious narrative weight but they have removed any and all risk factors. Death means nothing. At this point, Jinpachi might as well just magic himself back to life. At this point, make Ogre a main roster member, he'll be aight. Why not bring back Kazumi? I'm sure her neck can just unsnap itself. These are the problems with create doing this crap, and even worse is that all three of these characters are prime examples of the "what if" scenario I mentioned before; Jinpachi came back in Tekken Tag 2 and Ogre has repeatedly appeared in other material while Kazumi was dead during the entirety of Tekken 8. None of this had to happen the way it did.
@najadamu27244 ай бұрын
Also, it makes more sense that someone like Kazuya or Jin can come back from the dead, because of their Devil Gene. But previous games went out of their way to confirm that Heihachi doesn't have the Devil Gene and, despite his efforts, never succeeded in acquiring one... unless Tekken 8 is retconning that too. Which would only end up making Heihachi not as special as he once was - that is, being a human who can fight toe-to-toe with the Devils. If he has the Devil Gene now, then he's just another evil Mishima.

A dead fighting game character needs to take at least one damn game off before returning. King of Fighters kept characters dead for 20+ real world years, and even though they recently returned, those deaths were still meaningful because of the amount of time they were gone and the uncertainty of whether they'd ever return. Skipping just 1 game isn't much to ask.

Skipping a game meant ALOT less back in the day because dev time was much much faster. At most you’d go a couple years without a character. @@neonthunder3261 Not exactly. KOF XV established the multiverse. The "revived" characters aren't actually revived, they're versions of the characters that experienced similar events, but didn't die. Geese is alive in KOF because Real Bout never happened in that reality. Fatal Fury 1&2 happen, which lead into '94, and that is where the events diverge.

@@The_WIll_OF_D99 It's in the Team edit ending...Why has no one played through this ending? Heidern outright states that it's a multiverse. The reason why Elisabeth remembers Ash when no one else does is because she's integral to Ash's history in most of the timelines. Duo Lon and Shen Woo eventually remember Ash for the same reason, because they always team up with Ash in every reality with 2003's events. A youtuber by NeogeoNow has a video that explains all of this, and even has the team edit ending itself on his channel. It's not even something that's especially new either. It was shown in KOF XIV that Nakoruru can not only freely transcend time, but also space. She can come and go to different worlds at will and take whomever she wishes with her. I'm aware that fans have theorized the multiverse theory for years. XV merely established it, and by establish, I mean confirmed, verified beyond any doubt as canon.

Yeah, you've got your hype and people buying but to me just a lazy revival that not only breaks but shatters the previous games' storylines feels almost cheap in a way, like a very obvious cashgrab. I like Bison's new Raoh-like appeal, but I find him going back to his old ways to be a complete waste of a character, and with Heihachi back... I don't think fighting game stories will move forward, ever. Street Fighter will forever continue the same Shadaloo song and dance for as long as they make money. Shame because I was really hoping they'd do something with the Secret Society hints in 5 (though it was just SF3 buildup), but I guess not.

Well none of these 2 series stories will likely move forward. But there are other, younger fg series that do actually take importance in their narratives, at least moreso. I still gotta get the sequel but Undernight comes to mind. And idk about GG lore much but it sounds like that one's been moving on for the past couole entries. KoF does it with each saga and CotW (hopefully) properly picks up where MotW left off with Rock cause man that would be weird otherwise.
@neonthunder32614 ай бұрын
@@MagillanicaLouM The reason I bring it up is because SF6 and Tekken 8 both billed themselves as a new post-main villain era, with Tekken 8 being a big finale to the Mishima saga, and SF6 being the start of something new. Now that both of those have been undone, this has left a seriously bitter taste in my mouth. Why should I bother trusting either of these companies when it comes to handling these characters anymore? Not that they did either especially great as of recent, but to make it the big selling point and then aggressively walk it back felt like a complete rug pull. I *want* to like Tekken and Street Fighter, but especially on the Street Fighter side, it's just so awful how 6's story is being handled despite how hard they pushed for it. And I do concede I may be interested in some of the newer series pushing their narratives along, and I'm especially excited for COTW since I have a lot of faith in SNK and handling stories (what with the KOF sagas & Fatal Fury, Maximum Impact and all that), though I'm very much shaky about the idea of a half-assed revival being present there as well. Granted, SNK has the least amount of reason to ever do it, but I'm very much tense at the idea.

The whole thing about Tekken 7 being "the conclusion to the Mishima saga" is a complete lie and was done mainly for shock value, so it's not surprising that Heihachi is back. Tekkens story has been terrible post 5. Tekken 7 is the final nail in the coffin when it comes to me caring about the story. Most of the characters have been stagnant for 15 years now. Bamco either doesn't know what to do with most of the characters or doesn't care to. Tekken isn't MK. The story is not taken seriously like it is with MK where people like John Tobias and John Vogel actually wanted to tell a story. The solution to adding dead characters is to add them in the game but make them non canon to the story, or just don't kill them off.

Death in fighting games DOES matter, the problem is that SF and Tekken just don't give a damn about it. Just look at Mortal Kombat. Liu Kang got killed at the beginning of MKDA and we got all of MKDA without him and he only came back in MKD as a zombie. Shang Tsung and Quan Chi both got killed in MKD, they weren't playable in that game and only came back in MKA. Then both Shang Tsung and Shao Kahn got killed in MK9, they both skipped MKX and only came back in MK11. And Quan Chi got killed in MKX, skipped MK11 and now just recently came back in MK1. So while MK chars do come back, at the very least they wait a whole full game before they come back in order to make sure that their death would still mean something for the overall plot. SF and Tekken don't care. Bison got killed in SF5 and came back in SF6 after just one season, and Heihachi didn't even wait one season and is already back after Tekken 7, after both IP's made a huge deal from both getting killed, just for them to come back THIS quick, unlike MK which allows their chars to remain dead for at least one game so that the impact will be felt. So yes, death in fighting games DOES matter, it's just that it doesn't matter in SF and Tekken, or at least doesn't matter for Bison and the Mishimas, just because Capcom and Bamco don't wanna take chances with their IP's, unlike NRS/WB with MK.

Like seriously what was the point of tekken 7's ending and what was the point of Ryu finally offing Bison? Especially if the devs are just gonna bring these characters back one game later despite the fact that they're supposed to be dead. This is why I much preferred how arc system works for the guilty gear games and how SNK did the King of fighters games did when it came to dead characters because at least with those there was a reason for why the character stayed dead and when they did come back it was either through a prequel story or an abridged version of the game events of a previous title or a Magic mcguffin that's in the story that brings those characters back but not before a massive long wait time period in universe. Here it completely just feels like that the only reason why these 2 characters came back immediately it's because of member berries and bending over backwards for all of the fans that really really want these dead characters back regardless of whether or not it completely destroys the storyline for both titles. If that's the case then they really should have went the fatal fury route and just made M. Bison and Heihachi nightmare versions that were non cannon because it makes everything from SF5 and T7 COMPLETELY pointless. I am glad that more people are starting to understand that this is a very very scummy business decision just to keep the brand the same and keep the status quo.

Wow just wow. I was looking for this type of video on KZbin. Glad you released it. Imma chuck these games cause no way i was into the story. Only with these fighting games bruh tired of them just trying to make money imma just play sparking zero

Yep, the thing that gets me is that if they weren't gonna be dead they should've at least been in the main roster then. Doing it like this makes it a real DLC ploy and that's not cool

I think Tekken is a bit worse for it. Heihachi had the entirety of Tekken 7 as his swansong. That was his game, his story, his death... So bringing him back completely cheapens that to the point where you can get no satisfaction from it. Yes, losing Heihachi for a game would be sad, but keep in mind that Heihachi isn't even played that much. We'd miss him, but he wasn't a core part of the Tekken gameplay scene.

I can’t wait to pay extra for a character who’s been base for the last 7 games

I would be ok with it if they just added the characters as just playable but not involved in the story it’s the fact that they are involved in the story that I have an issue with

There’s definitely a tightrope to walk about stuff like this between “functions” and story. But the thing is, Tekken 8 is sorely lacking for big boys and specifically heavy Mishimas. If you seperate the multi and the story, then Heihachi actually makes a lot of sense. It’s up to you to decide whether or not you can separate Tekken 8 The Story and Tekken 8 The Competitive Game

I wish they would just stay dead. I mean Mature and Vice just got announced for kof and i am pretty sure they have been dead for years. They can be playable but stay dead in the story. It's not that hard

The thing that surprises me most now that I know the history of Tekken a bit more is that the Death of Heihatchi is not only temporary but relatively short and on top of that he seems to have taken very little relative damage for you know...being tossed in a Volcano and apparently gravely injured but recovered. Bison at least LOOKS like he's had to recover from a serious illness and has memory problems to boot.

First time being here. Just wanna point out about your voice recording being so similar to the Tekken 4 announcer - that raspy, crackly, listless lo fi voice. Ever thought about doing Tekken meme videos with that?

They can include characters in the game and just not make them part of the story anymore. Gohan SSJ2 is always in every DB fighting game but isn't always part of the story.

After seeing the trailer again, I do think that this is a flashback after Tekken 2, because why is his hair not grey in the volcano shot and his actual render is the old Heihachi with a few scars on his chest. I believe this "new" Heihachi is Lidia's master or whoever that old guy is with the tiger mask. But Heihachi is also a skin like Eddie and Christie, Xiao and Miharo in Tekken 4 back then. Kinda like a what if he did survive model like what NRS did with MKX revenant characters, they made up old looks for the cast that were never canon in the story.

I think a character a character can come back as playable, just leave them out the story and it's fine
