Deciem The Ordinary AHA | BHA & NIOD NAAP Review!

I'm reviewing all the Ordinary's AHA's and BHA as well as that non-acid product they generally suggest in favour of the acids! I've also included a breakdown of and the differences of AHAs and BHAs because, it's confusing! Enjoy!
** Just want to note that the reason I grouped Azelaic Acid with the AHA's here got lost in the editing. I didn't want to leave it out completely because it has some very similar qualities to AHA's, although it is a dicarboxylic acid. Which is why I mentioned I included it to make things more "complete." Sorry if this is misleading!

Best skin care advice on the web, period. Thank you, seriously for this video. Am exploring The Ordinary since your first review and coming from just using Vaselline lotion on my face for 46 years I feel like I am coming into the perfect skin care line at the right time. My main issues currently are texture and eye hollows and now I cannot wait to try that toner, thank you looking forward to more videos from you.

Maryanne Gauthier Why thank you Maryanne but I do own that currently. Have used it only a few times because I have heard it wont help my problem and that it wouldnt be a good idea to use it regularly because it will pull too much moisture. I believe even Gothmista pointed something similar to this out in one of her previous videos. I will however give this another try at your recommendation for a few weeks and update this post. Thanks for the advice, much appreciated. Currently use The Buffet mixed with Vaselline lotion and pull it under the eyes (not that effective) but it seems to help my deep line in the leven's area and other fine lines. Im ready to try more!

Another great video! I am collecting an arsenal of Ordinary products. I purchased the Lactic Acid 10% and am using it 1-2 days/week. I also bought the Azelaic Acid. I'm waiting for the toner to be back in stock, and then I'll get that and the mask. The only problem is having too many products in rotation!! I was reading about the NIOD copper 5% product which is apparently amazing but costs $200!!! I'd like to see you talk about more of the NIOD products. Thanks!

They way you described how the AHA/BHA treatment felt in your skin is exactly how I feel! Now burning/stinging instantly, but prickling a little later in the treatment on areas of congestion (for me thats my chin.) I do really like it and can't wait to get my hands on the glycolic toner. Still waiting for the marula oil from them to be back in stock too! I hope the ordinary starts doing SPF. thank you for emphasizing the importance of pH Due to the differentiation of skin health throughout the years, the pH of products are so important. My skin is a bit more acidic so i tend not to like acidic products. There is a small correlation between pH and skin. Ive noticed (with friends who allow me to experiement) that drier skin has a higher pH (leaning toward more basic) and those of us who are oily, lean towards the acidic side. (The bacteria on the face that causes acne, has a lipid layer that has a tendency to drop the pH of oily skin)(thus creating a really happy place bacteria to flourish) Yes, hydration is very important, but so is ensuring your skin is around the 4.5 to 6ish area. having too dry (basic) and too acidic (oily) skin can cause the products to not work as well with the skin. ideally, skin would absorb product optimally around the 5.5 pH. (chemist, did research on cosmetic and skin sustainability)

I have been incorporating quite a bit of The Ordinary into my skincare routine. I have to say, after trying out much more expensive products over the years, my bank balance is breathing a sigh of relief. I've been using the Azelaic Acid on my oily, acne-prone skin and I think I actually prefer it to the Lactic Acid. I follow it up with the Alpha Arbutin Solution to treat a couple of dark post-acne marks. At night, I switch to the Retinol 2% and 23% Vitamin C Suspension and a Paula's Choice salicylic acid gel to treat potential breakouts I can feel beneath the surface of my skin. Most of the time, they just disappear overnight. I've really enjoyed all your reviews and recommendations. Just ordered the Glycolic Toner and Salicylic Acid. Might order their glycolic mask the next time 'round. Thanks a bunch, Renee!

Hello, I just started watching you 1 month ago and I think you are fabulous. I bought some Ordinary products just a couple weeks before I found your channel. So I will need to go thru all that I bought and compare to your reviews and see if they will work and then go from there. I want to be very very cautious with these new products and you are helping me a lot. I probably won't try anything till the end of June or maybe sooner. I love that I get a science lesson while watching your skincare reviews. I've just got the Aha peel from The Ordinary and I already use the squalane cleanser, buffet, moisturising factors and lactic acid and really enjoy the effect it has on my skin. I've always felt pretty disappointed with skincare by most highstreet brands and it was my latch ditch attempt to find affordable skincare before I resort to high end 😅

Even though I highly value Renee's input on products (i.e your first round of reviews for The Ordinary), I went ahead and tried the Azelic acid treatment and was a little blown away by how well it worked for my oily, acne-prone skin. You were not kidding when you said it helps calm down inflamed skin! And for the price 👌👌👌 I'm still a fledgling skincare aficionado and still trying to figure a good way to incorporate acids into my routine. You mentioned it'd probably be prudent to avoid putting any direct acid (aha or bha) on active acne. So in my case, I should be using bha's primarily for blackheads and pustules that seem more like they're caused from overproductive sebaceous glands than p. acne bacteria, correct? Thank you for being so wonderful and informative! My face and I trust in you lol.

Anna Thibault How do you incorporate the azelaic acid into your routine?
@Marauder131
@Marauder131 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm really a fan. As long as it doesn't pill, it's great. Stephanie, you add it after your water soluble products, just before your moisterizers. So for example I wash, tone and then use either Buffet/Niacin/DE B-Hydra and allow those to dry. Then I go in with Azelic Acid and top off with an oil.
@AnnaThibault
@AnnaThibault 7 жыл бұрын
Hey Stephanie! You can definitely do it Marauder's way, as in follow up with an oil, or what I do since my skin can be quite a bit oily is spot my face with my moisturizer and pat it in because Renee is right it is quite silicone-y and you don't want to rub it off 👍

Anna Thibault I have really loved the Azelaic acid as well. I am 41 and have dry, sensitive skin with rosacea and it's really been wonderful for me. I do think it's mattefying/drying but with my moisturizer and other products I don't end up noticing that effect at all. It's definitely worth a try in my opinion.

kateri17 I know what you mean! It is matifying which for people with drier skin might feel uncomfortable, but going over it with VProve's Optimula Hyaluron Poten Balance Cream or even Dr. Jart's Ceramidin cream has been working well for me 😊

The 5% lactic acid saved me the past two weeks from the worst cystic acne flare up in several years. This is super gentle and I used this after applying hada labo gyokujun HA lotion. After 2 nights of application, the active tenderness was gone and the size of the cysts were shrinking which is frankly incredible without significant irritation. I finish with cerave's daily moisturizing lotion which seems to be my skin's favorite moisturize. I am returning to it when my skin needs to recuperate and I pay extra attention applying liberally and gently massaging into areas where I am prone to acne and cysts. The lactic acid 5% really gave this return to the soothing routine an extra oomph. Thank you for the review!

I'm a deciem junkie. I have a buffet of ordinary, hylamide, hand chemistry and NIOD. I'm in love with NIOD. their HA serum, CAIP, sanskrit cleanser are wonderful. another order of mud mask and mist coming this week. I use hylamide vit C 25% serum daily. on amazon now for 14 bucks, I bought 3 more. I use subQ face and eye serums from hylamide. I graduated from the ordinary to the higher end but do still use the glycolic toner a lot. I have dry, acneic mature 42yo skin so I feel more complex formulations work better for me. I have so much ordinary I haven't even opened yet. I'll get there. I went crazy cuz the price but have found the more expensive ones are heavenly. the retin-oil by hand chemistry for rhe body is really nice too.

Another amazing review! Thanks! I personally have not tried The Ordinary's AHA because I'm already using Refissa. I feel like it may be a bit much for my sensitive skin? However, I am using The Ordinary's Azelaic Acid and love it (among other products from this line)! I agree with you on the texture, but I combat this with cocktailing a pea size amount with a pea size amount of The Ordinary's MAP, two drops of The Ordinary Rosehip Seed Oil and two drops of The Ordinary's Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% in Vitamin F. It dries nicely allowing for moisturizer and sunscreen. I have absolutely no pilling of products. My skin is normal to dry and extremely sensitive to certain ingredients, fragrance and soap products at the top of the list. If my skin is unhappy, broken capillaries disperse throughout my face. Textually, my pores were enraged and my skin appeared rough. The cocktailed products noted above have truly saved my skin. My facial veins have faded, pores have complete minimized and my skins overall texture is smooth and clear like a babies bottom. It took three months for this transition to take place. One day I just started to get complements on my skin and people asking me for my skincare tricks! Wow! I feel so fortunate. Your videos are extraordinarily helpful to many. Thank you!! 😁

I bought (of course because of your review) Lactic Acid 5% and loved it sooo much, so I bought 10% also, love this one also. it helps so much with keeping my face smooth and without red marks. Basically, each product I bought from Ordinary helped me so much! and the prices.. love them. I used to be scared of acids because I hurt my skin once with mandelic acid, I had a massive breakout after using it and allergy I think... And I do not have an acne-prone skin, so that breakout was bad, really bad. My skin never looked liked this, and it was because of this mandelic acid. So i am still scared of acids, but Lactic Acid from Ordinary somehow works on me perfectly. Not going to change that or look for anything new.:)

Thank you for making these videos! When I was first getting into Asian skincare, your videos were some of the most helpful and informative ones I found. I still come to your channel for info and advice on how to tweak my Asian beauty skincare routine. (Loving the 7 Skins method, btw.) When I first heard of The Ordinary, of course I had to see what you thought of the line! It was your review that helped me make the decision to pick up a few of their products. I'm glad I did! I'm loving the Niacinamide serum and the Lactic Acid 10% serum. I feel like I am seeing some really good results from those two items in particular. I also picked up and am liking Buffet and the Caffeine Solution for eyes, but those two items seem to have more subtle effects. Thank you for doing the research, being so knowledgeable on skincare, and helping me on my journey to better skin. I love watching you videos. Keep it up!

Excellent video! I have several of the Ordinary products but haven't tried them yet. I'll work them in as I run out of other stuff. I have been using the P50W for about 6 months and love that stuff. I like it that there are several versions of it. My skin usually doesn't like a Glycolic acid but I may have to give the Ordinary 7% a try. Thank you for all the great info!

I just heard the same advice from Caroline Hirons about the over use or using too strong of acids all the time. It was hard when your 50 such as my self and most of the aha and bha information is relatively new. So I know for myself and I'm sure I speak for other mature people. We wanted to hurry up and reverse the damage we have done and ASAP. Therefore I went all in with the stronger skincare. All I need is you and Caroline Hirons for all my skincare information.

I've only used the BHA from Paula's Choice, but I've always used it on active acne b/c it helps dry up the gunk quicker. That with the acne.org's benzoyl peroxide is what helped me get my acne under control. I do love the Ordinary's 30% AHA mask, so much more than Drunk Elephant's Baby Facial. Baby facial while not necessary irritating to my skin, I can tell that my skin didn't enjoy it as much. I think it's due to the texture of it. It a little gritty, so it was like using a chemical exfoliant at the same time as a physical one which my skin was not super fond of. I feel like the 5% Lactic Acid from the Ordinary is super mild for my skin, so I pair it with my BHA and it's been good for me so far. I want to try the 7% Glycolic Acid from the Ordinary (I really liked the Paula's Choice 10% version which I ran out of), but when I went to purchase it was out of stock. But I'm not sure if it's necessary since I used the Lactic Acid + BHA 2 or 3 times a week and the 30% AHA mask once a week. Maybe once I run out of the lactic, I'll get the Paula's Choice again or give the Ordinary's glycolic acid a try. But I do have Boscia's Sake Balm, so it might be unnecessary to have so many glycolic acids.

Your videos are super informative. I've tried the Lactic acid, peeling bha and aha, azeleic,. I've seen some slight improvement and it been about two weeks. I have the niacin-amide, retinol , and vitamin c by the ordinary. I think over time these with definitely improve my skin. I feel I can leave the peel longer by I just do the 10 minutes. I want more peel around check because that's where I have the most hyper pigmentation. My nose and forehead peel more. Thanks and keep the videos coming 👍

Great video! I'm always on the look out for acids, and had been an avid user of Alpha-H Liquid Gold and Paula's Choice Resist Anti-Ageging BHA 2%. I loved Liquid Gold, but the cost was just not worth it, plus there is so much alcohol in it I stated to get sensitive. I didn't like Paula's Choice BHA at all, it didn't seem to help. I'm currently using the Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% about 3 times a week and I'm absolutely loving it. It's super hydrating (I've got dehydrated combination to oily skin) and it has help to keep my skin soft and clear, plus fading the PIH. I'm still on a lookout for a good quality BHA so may have a whirl with the Ordinary's.

With your guidance, through your videos, im stepping up my skin care game. previously im just into moisturizers and toner. now i'll go ahead and try oils and more deep chemistry-named skin care. after watching a lot of videos from you. I plan to buy the ordinary niaciamide and the rosehip oil. and im still looking for a sunscreen with higher spf and does have a less white cast. because currently im just using clinique sun care with spf15. I have also tried the tea tree oil from body shop and use it as spot treatment and it burns really haha.. and btw I have really oily skin. and ive learned that I have P.I.E. some in my cheeks. even though I dont have a lot of breakouts, I always consider products that are for oily sensitive and acne prone skin. SO MUCH LOVE FROM PHILIPPINES. PS. THE WEATHER HERE IS HOT and HUMID. I also consider our weather here when choosing the products haha

I love your videos, Renee. First, I'll admit I've been a skincare snob my entire life. Now, at 48, I just want products that work for skin's concerns. After hearing about The Ordinary products on Beautylish, I searched for information about them, I placed a huge order, and finally found your channel a couple of weeks later. My skin is dry but still in pretty good shape. I've found I love most of the products I ordered for myself and my daughter is enjoying the results from the ones she's using. As for the acids, I use all of them, in addition to Drunk Elephant's Baby Facial and the Dr. Gross Extra Strength Peeling Pads. When the Baby Facial is finished, I will not repurchase because the 10% from The Ordinary works just as well. I'm still debating as to whether or not I can do without the peeling pads by Dr. Gross....there's something about them I love. Obviously, other than the 7% glycolic toner, I alternate using acids with retinoids. Until I began using The Ordinary products, people said my skin looked great....but now I'm reasonably happy with my skin. What really amazes me is that I bought 13 products with the same amount of money it costs to buy half of one my eye cream. Take care and thank you for the wonderful information! 🌸 Lisette

I've gifted six bottles of the glycolic toner to friends and family: truly one of the best I've ever used. I was surprised that going up to the 10% lactic acid serum produced no irritation or further discomfort than the 5%...so I now use the former. Decium is all over my skincare routine: I mainly use products from Niod and The Ordinary with a few bits from Hylamide...their hydrating spray toner is excellent. The brand continues to make an exceptional mark on the industry. ps. you should try the serum foundation, Renee, it is light, great coverage and hydrating.

Thanks you for another well informed review Renee! I have been looking for a complete in depth review of the NIOD products and I was glad to see you liked the NAAP treatment. I have been using the core NIOD system for almost a week and though I can't see definite results, I feel I'm doing good things for my skin. Being in my 60s, I have a lot of aging issues and have been a long time user of the Paula's Choice line including the Retinol serum and more recently the Ordinary's advanced retinoid. I was on the verge of getting a prescription for a Retin A product, but I was hesitant to go through the peeling and inflammation. Would like to know your opinion on the benefits of going the non acid route of the NIOD products compared to the proven results of Retin A. I've also heard that using acids and RetinA for a prolonged period of time will cause skin thinning and sensitivity. Love your work ❤️

Hi Renee, I've watched your rewiews on The Ordinary products, that helped me a lot on deciding to give this brand a try. I don't know if it's my skin or the products that I chose to use, but I've been experiencing a sort of yellowish discoloration on my face, esily two shades darker than my skin tone, (i'm pale caucasic prone to hyperpigmentation). Deciem monkeys told me that is either the lactic acid or the Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate which I actually got instead of the Azelaic Suspention just because after the reviews, it felt like a better option to me.They say that sometimes thats the reaction. I just felt that it should be a warning about it. The reason I chose Tetraisopalmitate was that it was supoused to be stable so it will not oxidize on my skin. If it's the lacti acid, well, I feel a bit sad about it because i really need exfoliation otherwise i'll be all flaky. There it is, if my experience could serve someone.
