Nearly there mate , I was 15 when you started this project and I just got my bus pass last week LOL , but seriously Del , nice work and can’t wait to see it roll out of the MOT station with a pass certificate ( that’ll probably indicate the first snow fall of the year as Sod’s law usually dictates ) and really am looking forward to seeing what you and Mackie do with the paint job 👌. All the best and best regards to Penny . C .

Speaking about the 1000 grit sand paper, I would challenge anyone who comments that the technique is incorrect on the final sand to post up THEIR work, I doubt it would be any better, awesome ... your the "rattle can man" for sure.
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 5 жыл бұрын
Hi buddy, thanks for that support, it is a bit of a knack, but I learnt it from the mighty Milo, it's not just a case of using fine paper, if you sand with 600 you can lay up very wet paint that is more heavily thinned, but if you try that on 1000grit sanded finish, it will fisheye asnd run straight away, as it's too wet to key... if you're gonna sand to 1000 or 1200, I found you need a thicker paint in the first place and definitely... a good tack coat to start the process of bonding and it's ver temperature sensitive, any colder than about 15c and it lays up like porridge, so again, you do need many other things in place for a 1000grit sand, but it will leave a stunningly smooth finish, which is what I wanted for satin paint, because you can't ssand it back afterwards and buff it, thanks for your input buddy, much appreciated, it's greast to hear from somone who's done it too, have a great weekend, Del

Hi guys just watched your vlog on my 50" tv, couldn't sleep due to back pain so got up at 3. You see the paint going on much bettet watching it on a larger device, much better, it picked up the various coats of paint going on really well, don't think I will watch KZbin on a tablet any more. That paint gives such a good finish, it's almost like the HD denim black isn't it. Not long now & it'll be MOT'd & another finished project, what next methinks. Have a great weekend both & take care x 👍👍😎

Hi Geoff, lovely to hear from you mate, and we hope you're feeling better by the time you read this... You're dead right, I recognise the finish was like Harley Denim too, it is just a base coat, and it will get scuffed up for artwork and clear coat in the end... now you're watching on a big screen, I better get myself some lippy and foundation aye lol ! Take care buddy, get well soon, all the very best, D&Px

Sadly it is a tiny 'fish eye' that opened up during the drying process, it wasn't there in the final coat, that's the volatile nature of rattle can paint, or any painting for that matter, it's easy to deal with once it's fully cured in a couple of months!

Hi mate, I would have to calculate that cos not every video is on the tail, but from the first measurements to make the support frame to this last layer of paint, I imagine a guess would be around 50hrs, maybe 75hrs, who knows, if I count the time it scares me, so I just keep an overall total!

Can I ask you what prep and paint type and finish ie laquer (2 pack?) would you do for front forks..need to do mine on my 2002 FX 650Y Honda Vigor
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 5 жыл бұрын
Hi there Steven, it's a lot simpler than you might think... no need for 2 pack, in fact this Simoniz Tough Paint is designed for exactly things like your fork legs, it's a tough chip resistant paint that goes over bare metal... you can rub them down and feather out any chips in the paint, then de-grease with a mild acetone (nail varnish remover's fine), and just rattle can spray them with the Tough Paint... 2 pack paints are extremely expensive by comparison, poisonous to spray in a domestic environment, and set extremely hard, which can leave them prone to chipping in areas like your fork legs, which is a pretty hostile environment, but the Tough Paint is formulated to remains slightly soft and flexible, absorbing the impacts from gravel and grit, and resisting chipping, comes in Satin or Gloss, so check it out, you probably only need 1 can for both fork legs... good luck with it buddy!

Can someone give me some advice? I've got an Aprilia RSV Mille and the frame is damaged because the previous owner crashed it in a gravel trap on a race track. There's lots of gravel pitting on my frame and I would like to have this mint again. What's the correct way of fixing this? Grinding it with an angle grinder or what is better?
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 5 жыл бұрын
STOP!... PLEASE don't touch your frame with an angle grinder! The frame may look chunky, but if you're referring to the main spars on the sides, then they are a think skin of aluminium sheet metal, maybe no more than 2mm thick, they are a honeycomb construction, but if you scuff away any of that thickness, then you could compromise the strength of the frame... if you are going to use any form of abrasive wheel on your frame spars, then use no more than a plastic paint fleece, as I did on my streetfighter project, to remove bonded on silicone and even that I had to be very careful... they just cannot take being ground away... my best advice would be to use a little light body filler to fill in any pit holes, a light sand to smooth them out by hand and then spray the frame spar with a satin aluminium finish wheel paint, they will look like new and you won't know the damage weas there... hope that helps you, good luck ...

Would have never touched it with an angle grinder unless people would have recommended me doing that. Thanks so much for your reply Del! I will try my best with your tips and see if I can get a paint that fits my frame nicely :)

@Moonfleet41 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Ian, great to hear from you, hope you're all well... ! You said the song right mate, must be a fellow Ska fan! Sadly, yes I did let the Harley go, but it was to liberate some funding for the next project, which will most likely be a Harley... as will know, they're not a cheap bike to buy as a donor so something had to go... also, there was nothing to do on the Switchback but ride it, but this way I get Harley videos to make once again... have a good weekend mate!

Shame, but at least it wasn't that cracking XJR that went, all the work that went into that, it would've been a travesty just for another project lol. Yep, always liked ska and 2-tone, since the early 80's. On the music subject, the one Mike Wrench did for your channel, I heard one by the Stone Roses the other day, sounds almost identical in places, was called Love Spreads. Both cracking tunes. You have a good weekend too.

that paint reminds me of the Plasti-cote stuff we used to get in diy shops, it was great, someone said it was powdercoat in a can.. sadly its gone now in favour of painters touch or whatever rubbish they have now
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 5 жыл бұрын
You can still buy paint on plastic coatings, but a lot of these brands get bought up by other companies, and they don't necessarily continue reatiling them, they buy them in order to shut them down, giving their product an open market, but the Simoniz range is pretty useful and this Tough Paint stuff is awesome, I've painted it on crash bars, chassis rails and even on a handrail outside my house, and it's just indestructable, so yeah, could be called powder coat in a can...

christopher shirley & Andy Dawson: Hi both, sadly yes, it is a tiny 'fish eye' that opened up in the final coat during the drying process, it happens from time to time, but it's perfectly, and easily, fixable... just need to drill it out down to the fibre glass with a drill bit in your fingers, and then dab a tiny drip of thick paint in the hole till it's flush with the surface,but I can't do that till it's fully cured all the way through, so I'll do it in a few months time when I do the rest of the blemishes, or wait for the art work in the new year... afraid it's the downside of using rattle cans, but it can actually happen even with spray gun paint, the thicker the paint build up, the more of a toxic effect the chemicals have on the base layer underneath, and it's probably reacted to a tiny speck of dust or grease that I just didn't get off, but showing it you all warts and all, like the rest of the build!
