How you gonna ride it with no mot ? Surely this will void your insurance, so makes no difference if you only have theft insurance.
@michaelcarvell24826 жыл бұрын
Starting it up putting it in gear and letting clutch out 😂 you are right isn’t correct procedure surprised Del stating has intentions on public forum. However most us do or done it. A quick min or two around the block or just few hundred metres up and down a side road to test brakes etc. Doesn’t make it right but so long as your not taking the piss and going to shops or a bigger ride or whatever you’d get away with it.
@lajjvo6 жыл бұрын
Since you can ride it to a pre booked MOT, surely you would be allowed to test ride it after a repair? That is the case in Sweden at least. Otherwise, you wouldn't know if the repair you made was good or not.
@michaelcarvell24826 жыл бұрын
lajjvo no technically it’s illegal still in the U.K. unless your mot is still valid after a repair as it lasts a year then obviously your fine as long as have Insurance and tax etc. But if been off the road and mot expired other than riding to prebooked mot or riding on private land a test ride isn’t Legal. Though as said so long as don’t take the piss you’d get away with it for a quick test around the block but could be in trouble if a policeman was having a bad day and noticed and pulled you and wanted to make a example out of you.
@DevinJuularValentine6 жыл бұрын
Another case of law not reflecting practicality. I suppose you could book an mot and ride around the block to check for trouble and cancel mot if something is wrong

@Moonfleet415 жыл бұрын
Yes indeed mate, it's not a crappy day bike, and I actually took the measurements for it from the late model R1 mini-hugger which is there literally to keep the crap off the shock, it does an ok job, but if it was an all weather bike, it would look different in many other ways too!
@macspud286 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure that the rear light isn't too obscured by being so deeply recessed into it's rear facing tunnel. it seems to get obscured quickly when moving away from being dead astern and can't be seen clearly at a fairly acute angle away from the centre line straight behind. You may get away with it but it might be better to adjust the placement further out for the MOT test.

Holy S**t!!! Words fail me mate, two years and she is nearly ready to go. Thanks for letting me join you on the journey i have enjoyed each and every vid so far. A quick idea with regards to the rear brake pot, i seem to remember seeing people use a piece of hose/tube instead of the horrible pot, would it work for you and maybe look a bit cleaner?
@Moonfleet415 жыл бұрын
Hi buddy, yes, I did think of that, a short length of plastic hose with a plug in the end, it does work, but personally, and it's only my opinion, I think it looks a bit cheap... when I build up some skills on the lathe, I'm gonna try and make myself an little cheeky reservoir! Thanks so much for your kind comments mate, next video online mid-week, MOT trip and ride !
@clivewilliams14065 жыл бұрын
I agree with the output connector not being a male as others have said but you can achieve your principle by using different types of connectors e.g. spades to the brake light and bullets to the rear light. I thought that the Construction and Use Regs required the rear reflector to be 2 sq inches in area or the metric equivalent? That reflector will be invisible at night on an unlit street. Have you thought about changing the ugly rad pipe on the left side of the engine for say a black SS braided one or even a black anodised rigid pipe with flex connectors? I will take good odds that the insurance company will not cover any claim arising out of your 'shake down' run as they will only cover you for riding a road worthy (i.e. with MoT) vehicle or for you to ride to an MoT station. If that is the case you will be riding illegally on your shake down run. I would either use the ride down to the MoT as the shake down run or trailer the bike down. The MoT will only test all those things that you could reasonably test on your driveway, so having a shake down run for the MoT is not actually necessary.

@raybould6 жыл бұрын
Beautiful lookin beast she turned out to be, Del. Fair do's for restraining yourself from takin it round the block, and sod the insurance. For the rear reservoir, would it be possible to turn one from ally, with a brass connector screwed in underneath and a threaded cap at the top? No idea if that's feasible, but it'd be a great lathe project and a fitting final touch for the bike. Just a thought! Best of luck with the test run - book an MOT in Aberdeen beforehand, and you can ride where you like 😏
@Moonfleet415 жыл бұрын
Hi Jack, thanks for your kind words, I think that project would be feasible, just not for me yet, that's a pretty technical ask, and I'd need the rubber diaphragm to work correctly to, but certainly do-able for a future project, once I build up some skill! Took an indirect route to the testing station, which is just a few miles away, as there's nothing to say which route you have to take, video mid-week, all will be revealed!!

I was watching the first video when you introduced the Kwak and I pricked up my ears as it was a zx7r and a T-reg like mine (zx6r). I thought "Ooooh, I could learn something here about maintaining my bike". While it has been a very useful demonstration model, it now looks nothing like the original. I mean, I like the look of the old zx-r models but what you have turned it into looks awesome. Unfortunately, it has given me ideas on what could be possible with my bike and that is really bad news because it all costs money that I don't have. :) Even relatively cheap fixes and upgrades add up and I have enough trouble just keeping mine continuously roadworthy, even with trying to do as much as I can myself. (By the way, did you ever do a video on checking valve clearances?) Anyway, you must be very proud of your work. It is beautiful and functional, what more can any mortal want? I hope it's really fun to ride. All the best to you and Penny. :)
@Moonfleet415 жыл бұрын
Hi Patricia, thank you for your constant kind support... I'm so glad you understand the cost of projects, this is why mine has taken almost 3yrs, most of the reason for dragging my heels for that long was to accumulate the money along the way, and this bike was off the road, it would be even harder, if like yours, you would have to keep it rolling and usable at the same time!... But all things are possible, the only limit is your imagination... I've never done a valve clearance video, I've always worried that guiding people down that route is a liability because it is fraught with danger if you make one mistake, specially miss-timing the cams when you replace them and set everything up again... which can lead to catastrophic engine damage, checking valve clearances is easy, the problem comes when you find one that needs to be changed... so we've always left it alone as far as video goes. Thank you again for your kind support, have a great week! D&Px
@patsonabike5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for that. I totally understand your thinking. I think I would also be uneasy if I showed people how to do something that requires a wider technical understanding and can lead to dire consequences. I mean, it would not be impossible for me to work down to the valves and check clearances but then what? I guess when the time comes I'll just have to bleed the money necessary. I wonder if I can become an apprentice mechanic before then:) Best wishes to you both!

Hi Walt, I've personally never used fuel stabilisers, for what it costs in relation to a tank of fuel, I just fill the tank to the absolute brim before you lay it up and I mean, fill to the point where almost overflowing, so no air gap to rust the inside of the tank... and thn when you are ready to use the bike again, just drain that fuel out and get rid of it, fill up with fresh fuel and away you go... if you already have the stabiliser, have heard good things about it, but haven't used it to give the best advice... but once again the general important rule is to make sure there is no air gap for rust to form via condensation!

Hi buddy, gonna keep it subtle and let the shape do the talking, there will be art work, but this time a little more understated than last time!

once you have the ticket take a long ride ..stop halfway at the garden of serenity and stand back and take a good look at what you've created ..and you'll be halfway to sanity.... of course ignore all that if theres another song out there with the same lyrics as the Ramones 😁👍.... she looks beef brother, i was confused re the blinkers..but i guess they're visible both ends i was probably not paying attention in that video ( to busy raking through the lyrics drawer in my swede ) ... peas n loaf 😉☮❤

Ayup brother, great to hear from ya and I knew you'd get that one! You know what, it reminds me when you see teenagers walking around these days in Ramones t-shirts or PIL, or Guns n' Roses Appetite for Destruction t-shirts... how dare they?! ... they weren't even alive when these bands were cool? (are still cool... although Axl Rose now looks like Chucky which is a real shame... never let yourself go buddy, it's not a good look! Stay the fit and lean hunk you always have been... no more doughnuts, specially with this seat unit!).... off for MOT today, so hoping that the tester got his oats last night... wish me luck buddy, all the best, Del

Hi Del, does the reflector have to be midline of the bike, surely the tester will move it if it does?

Big smiles here, Del! A thing of beauty... how about a quick editing in of what she looked like when you got the bike back when... on your next video? 🏍👍🏍

Hi Gary, that would have been a great idea, just working on the final editing as the video is down, as it's going online tomorrow night... plus, of course, the Kawasaki classic collectors club will probably send me more hate mail for butchering an old bike lol !
