Distilled vinegar is not recomended because it is cheap and coffee equipment supply retailers don't make any sales on it. It is cheap it works and when you run a couple of flushes through it (same as you have to do with expensive descalers) there is no odour or taste.

For the Breville Precision Brewer - you don't just run the coffee maker, there is a specific Descale mode - hold down the Select button for 3 seconds after you have the tank filled with your descaler and water mixture. -- If you don't do this, the DESCALE warning light won't go off.

I am glad that I watched this prior to descaling my Bunn Brewer. I have used descalers before on my Brazen, but with the Bunn the Mfg only recommended using vinegar. I went with my Goo Gone liquid and it worked flawlessly. Since I use Zero Water Filters my hard well water does not cause problem with taste or scale buildup. I had the Bunn for several years and this was the first time I actually descaled it. I was surprised to see very little mineral buildup.

Where do you get the descaling solution stuff?

Thank you for the tutorial. Question, after mixing the descaling or cleaning solution, pouring it into the water reservoir and turning it on to run a complete cycle, do you turn the Technivorm Moccamaster off after the cycle is complete? Then add water for the rinse cycle and turn the unit back on again? And if you turn the unit off after each cycle, how long do you wait until you can add more water (in this case of rinsing after descale or cleaning) and turn it back on again to begin the cycle?

You can rinse right away. I have the same machine and it has no problem running back to back brews. Btw Urnex is citric acid mostly and a bit of sulfuric acid. The rest is a flocculant to help dissolve the solution in water. I use 100% citric acid in my machine with no problem. It's orderless and tasteless, and best of all a more natural approach. It's also very affordable.

I`m sure as hell not running any vinegar through a $200-$300 coffee brewer.Thanks for the pro tips,these products are most likely citric acid based which is environmentally friendly and tasteless as well as odor free.
