Nah, she was drugged and was coming around hearing what Dexter had planned for her. She was in a container with a psychopath and she knew it. He's holding a weapon too, splurting out his intentions to deb. Laguerta was right. Dexter manipulated Deb into choosing and Laguerta knew it. That's why she wanted deb not to think & shoot. Psychopaths are brilliant at manipulating people. Dexter did this immediately when Deb walked into the church and saw him kill, attempting to play it down. Even though deb could see the body wrapped in plastic and kept on asking while Dexter foolishly acted as if he could play it down

Right in the stress of the moment of laguerta saying that, she felt like she was left with only 2 options when in fact there were more. Especially once Dexter dropped his weapon she could've arrested him.

Imagine how much better of an ending for the show it would have been if at 23:04 Deb shoots Dexter. It would have been the perfect ending -- the only person Dexter actually loved was Deb, and to keep her from going down the dark path he sacrifices himself to save her.
@unityforall-md4fl

Dexter was ready to give up his life in the hands of Deb, the sister who he cares, just his affection of emotion is different from the norms,but Dexter do care for social interactions, that's why he always has Harry to be there as his imagination. Deb was put in a difficult situation on killing someone ready to give up their sins, vs lagurerta screaming at Deb to shoot at an unarmed man. Lagureta is still a police officer, she can't be a vigilante but she utilize all level 1 emotions to tell a sister to kill her brother instead of taking this into the police station. Which makes sense for Deb to shoot her at the heat of the moment. 😂

I'd argue that an act of love would be him giving up as soon as she found out about him and it became her problem. Instead he just kept trying to get her to cope with it. I can't buy that he would suddenly be this dimwitted about Debra's principles. He loves her, for sure, but this moment isn't an expression of it. You can't call something he only did once he was totally cornered an act of love, in my view. His motivations in the end always came from a purer place so I can't find myself going for the generally logical "it can be both things." Anyway sorry for going on about it.

The most interesting part about Maria’s investigation is that it was all circumstantial evidence towards Dexter. Yeah but she had Dexter and Deb for the murder in the church. She had their GPS under a warrant, which would have only put them two at the crime scene. After she obtained the petrol station CCTV with deb filling up containers. Then she would have used the blood slide from that crime as further evidence and before you know it, the federal agents would have been all over Dexter investigating everything that's ever happened such as why did Doakes want a blood slide sample analysed if he was supposed to be the bay harbor butcher. And if they couldn't pin him as the bay harbor butcher, the two would still be under arrest and facing a trial for murder. Maria also outsmarted Dexter when she had his mother's killer released until Dexter realised he was lured into a trap

I think this plot was one of the best of the show, with a ton of callbacks to previous seasons. Now, Laguerta has been great in her investigation just until the end when she made 2 mistakes, first going alone to the ship container, she knew Dexter killed or beat Doakes, she should have known better, specially since the first time they went there she was with a policeman. And second, even worse, she tried to force Deb to kill Dexter, that's terrible .. she should make him surrender and arrest him, that was the proper way to handle the situation. Get a confession, clear Doakes name.

The cost is Debra's mental state, she also knew of his crimes so whether she shot her or let Dex kill her knowingly, wouldn't make a difference in her eyes.

I like how with Deb his reasoning is still trying to find a way around it, but then she's about to call the police and his dark passenger comes out trying to figure out a way to prevent her from telling anyone. He's fighting it so much, because its Deb and he wants to protect her from it all but from this point forward can't anymore. And by doing all of this, Dexter makes some of the worst mistakes he has ever made before all because he cares so deeply for her. Deb shows that Dexter is human, even when he tries to convince everyone he's not. He can't stand to hear her even say he's a killer, you can see the little boy watching his mother die come out when Deb talks to him like he's some inhuman monster.

Dex made it clear in the very first ep. He had no feelings, but if he did. They would be for Deb. He would never hurt her... He may have been a psychopath but even they have a place for those they are fond of. Those are the ones you never threaten, because they are held too such a high standard from the rest. Deb is that person for Dex. The only reason he stuck to his code was because of Deb.. It was his way of protecting her, himself and being able to carry on with his activities.. It was also Deb in Dexter: New Blood his reasoning for not killing for 10 years. He had made a promise to Deb..

@@jamillajohnson6108dex isn’t a psychopath. Early on he acted like one, but as the series continued he very obviously showed empathy multiple times. Dex is an unreliable narrator. Like what does “if I had feelings they’d be for her” mean? He has feelings for her, watch his interactions with her, especially these scenes. When she shot laguerta look at his face, when she dies look at his reaction to it. Dexter is a case of childhood trauma that fucked him up, and his father and Doctor Vogel fucked him ip further by misjudging his condition. Dexter was never a psychopath or a sociopath, he was a traumatize 3 year old stuck in a pool of his mothers blood. His mental monologues are how he sees it, but in reality he loves his family, and that should be obvious by the end, it’s why he left Harrison and Hannah

@@oldylad I know that... What new pieces of information are you giving... To be honest the show didn't know what they wanted to Dexter to be... They kept switching his character.... In seasons 1-4 he most definitely was a sociopath with psychopathic tendencies... The the last seasons they wrote where he's just traumatized. All because the showrunners didn't want the brand Dexter to be non marketable. This is the reason Dexter never faced moral consequences.. The reason they didn't want Dexter to die in the end.. The character of Dexter is NOT just a traumatized man but a sociopath w/ psychopathic tendencies... He is a serial killer.. The Code is his crutch and excuse to kill.. He takes trophies... Laguerta is just not a guilty victim, like Rita, like Doakes. Laguerta and Doake were just doing their job and trying to get the truth and get justice. Dexter is not a positive character in this story. The director of the first four seasons already tried to bring the audience to this.
