If I had my nails done, hair colored, cut and styled, worked half a day, all in a day, I would be exhausted! You look fresh as a daisy. Not to mention mama duties! I’m currently watching reruns of the Olympic opening ceremonies, Celine is singing her heart out and I’m so happy she looks well and belting her song out. I’m tearing up. I get very emotional watching the Olympics anyway. To answer your question about shopping, no I don’t really shop anymore, either in shops, the mall or even online. I hardly wear ready to wear any longer, nothing really fits me well and I can make my clothes and they look so much better, custom made by me! I do look at Pinterest for ideas. I love watching KZbin “sew the look” videos where they recreate a fashion look by pairing sewing patterns with fabric.

Life is short and hard! Do all the pampering! While I was having my nails done this week, my manicurist gave me a hand massage. It was so relaxing I decided right then that I need to book a full body massage . It’s been years since I’ve had one! I’m loving your daily blogs, Ruan. 😊 I get lots of inspiration from you and your Soul Sisters. I rarely go shopping any more for myself. Yesterday a friend and I took a trip to go to a quilt/sewing machine shop and to JoAnn. Yes, we bought lots! It’s a shame that we have to drive 1 1/2 hours to get to shop, but we persevere! After five hours of shopping,I was exhausted. She could have continued for many more hours. 😂 I’ve been embroidering this morning and I hope to finish a prototype of a memory bear using my dad’s clothes today. Then on to making a bag for my brother for his birthday. Your bag kit and fabrics are glorious! I can see a beautiful Zadie using the black modal jersey and can’t wait to see it made up and accessorized. Bold red jewelry and shoes would be beautiful and really pop the outfit. I enjoy making bags with kits. I had heard a while back that 1st for Fabrics was considering starting shipping overseas. I hope they do! I’d love to get my hands on their fabrics, kits, and Oh, those buttons! Buttons are a huge passion of mine! Thanks for taking the time to make the daily vlogs this week, Ruan! 😘 Sew with joy!

Love the bag kit, that is going to look great. Totally understand your concerns regarding the children & tracking them-real sigh of relief when they get home again. I do that with my hubby when he goes off on his bike, as he has been knocked off twice! Re shopping, habits change - I have a friend who has a clothes/handbag shop in my local town but as for big stores you can usually see what they have on line. I am probably more likely to have a nose around independent shops if I’m away. Thank you Ruan, another great blog.😊

Great to see the reality of sewing as a working mum. I always wonder how you all get so much sewing done. I always laugh when I get my hair curled when it’s cut and I’m going nowhere 😂. I too don't buy many ready to wear garments since i started to really get into sewing. I do buy knitted cardis though as I don't knit garments. I also purchase jeans- I love NYDJ jeans as they fit the best on me. Love your daily blogs. I miss them when Christmas is over, Happy Weekend!

I love NYDJ jeans, too. They fit me well, are very comfortable, and wear well. I love my white ones. So do my dogs, unfortunately. They wash like a dream, though.

Loving your episodes. I have been particularly inspired by one of your makes and bought a pattern and will be making a lovely tie front blouse for summer. At the moment it's very cold in Sydney, Australia and I'm making the warmest fleece pants to keep warm around the house. In Sydney we can get double sided quilted Indian block printed fabrics. However, it is quite expensive as it is vey narrow. All the best. I love when the children appear. Love your sense of humour, love all the fabrics and makes. Very inspiring.

I've absolutely loved your vlogs this week! That fabric is stunning for your Pepin Tote. Might I suggest you look for the small metal feet to put on the bottom of the bag to protect it from dirt and wear? I think they're called handbag feet or bottom studs. And cheers to some pampering! Good morning! It’s Saturday morning here. Watching your video and having an ice coffee, yum 🤤. My you had a busy day yesterday. Everyone deserves a spa day. It makes you feel refreshed and happy. Gotta take care of yourself. You look beautiful 🤩. I haven’t had time for sewing in the last two days but maybe today. We will see 😊. It’s hard letting our kids grow up. Letting them have their independence a little at a time is hard. It’s not stalking it’s keeping track of your child 👍. I did that too except for tracking my son’s phone. We didn’t have that when my son was young . You’re a good mother 😊. Lovely bag kit and fabrics. Lovely earrings too. I don’t go shopping either. I either don’t like the clothes or can’t find what I want or I’m like I can make that. I love going to flea markets and antique shops. They’re fun. I think everyone who is following you understands that you can’t possibly answer every comment. From what I have been reading, we all are just enjoying your videos. They are fun. Looking good.... it's nice to have a bit of pampering every now and again 😎 On the ready to wear - I think since the Pandemic and online shopping I've really got out of the habit. But i do love to get ideas from fashion shows online - love to watch D&G Dior Chanel...and I do buy Hello Fashion I like the themes that come up and I have tried to replicate some ideas in my sewing. Not a lot 🤣but love the inspiration.

Great vlog Ruan. As 😊for shopping I don’t shop the way I used to either but that’s partly because I’m not driving at the moment. Also I have got far more interested in sewing and fabric. However, recently I have bought some things in the Jigsaw sale( it’s always fabulous) because I went to a style evening with my friend and saw a jumpsuit and a special dress for a very big anniversary. Also it’s so lovely to see how it all looks straight away. I don’t try and replicate things very often as it’s usually more expensive🤨I used to sew partly for the economy as it was so much cheaper and I love clothes. Nowadays it’s an investment, except occasionally when you have a well used pattern and fabric on an offer. I think I’ve got out of touch too by not looking in the shops! There are some nice things. 😊

Pedicures and haircuts for me, do my own nails with a lamp at home. Sew-Jo MIA, bit of an issue when the summer hols are my main break of the year!! Womble just arrived on my shoulders again, Baggage snuggled by my side and Rosie-Pickle sitting on my feet (by choice . . . ) Your kit is fabulous, I bought a Noodlehead pattern to sew last summer, not sure when it’ll get started! I think red is your neutral :-) Shopping used to be a leisure pursuit for me at one time, but no longer. I rarely go into town and even if I'm in town I don't shop for clothes or anything, really. I just do what I need to do, which usually involves buying fabric, although there are few fabric options, thread, or other habby stuff. No, I don't buy ready to wear clothes, can't remember when I last did, other than bras and knicks and one day I may get around to making those, too. I used to get my hair and nails done when I was working, but now I'm retired and living on my pension, there's no money for those luxuries as well as patterns and fabric. My choice, obvs I could stop buying fabric and get my hair and nails done instead, but it's just not going to happen :-)

Did you see the leopard print denim jacket in Next when you were in Ruan? 😱😍 I like to look but rarely buy anything other than “comfies”. Everything shrinks in the wash and ends up too short/tight so I prefer to make most of my own clothes now. The quality just isn’t the same in shop bought clothes now either 🤔

Your hair and nails look lovely. I did some grad dress alterations for a young lady who will be off to beauty school in the fall. She has already taken some hair styling courses through our local high school. In exchange for the sewing she is going to trim my hair a bit this week and then just before she goes to college she is going to lop off about 4 or 5 inches and style it a bit. I told her I would be her guinea pig for anything she is learning at school. I love doing a barter for sewing. Love the bag kit. I plan on making a circle shaped bag for the fall. I actually buy bags from thrift stores and repurpose them, using the fabric and hardware. It saves me money and gets my creative juices flowing. I used to love shopping, not so much now. My shopping is usually for groceries. But i do love to browse the fabric store. Even if i just need to pop in for notions it's fun just looking at all the beautiful fabrics. My local store had a 55% off sale this past week, great for stocking up on thread. I did buy a little bit of fabric. A bride i sewed for last year picked me up some cotton fabric in Hawaii while on her honeymoon. She also found a lovely remnant of a viscose print, about .5 of a metre. I was able to get 2 different solid coloured pieces of viscose to colour block a blouse at $5 a metre. I restrained myself from buying any of the new fall fabrics. I always assume you read all the comments and really never expect or need a reply. I love reading the comments people leave because quite often, they can be helpful to the readers. Talk about someone that can do it all, you can girl, WOW. I Love your curly hair but I’m with you about the curve in the bangs. My hairdresser always makes them flat and I like poofy(is that a word) a little. Earrings are cute, wear everyday. Btw, I didn’t catch the top you are wearing, very cute. I don’t have any malls near me but go to the expensive stores to, what we call, snoop shop. Get inspired by expensive clothes.

Ruan, I really enjoy watching your videos. I live in Canada and I discovered you just before Christmas. I almost wish I wasn’t retired because you show so many dresses that I would love to make to wear to work. I have one question. Where do you store all the clothes that you make? Your wardrobe must be bursting! Because of our Canadian weather, I have two distinct sets of clothes. I have taken over my grown up sons’ bedroom clothes closets. One for summer and one for winter.

I stopped high street shopping simply because I can't afford the clothes nothing fits properly and it's not that well made .I go occasionally for inspiration and look at the designs . I live 20 minutes away from the rag market so look at the high street then go buy fabric instead

Oh Luan, you've opened a can of worms with your talk about going shopping! I've become pretty disgusted with ready made clothes now that I've been sewing mine. I can't believe how much the cost of even simple items have sky rocketed. And when I look at how it's made, I think "This is 'rubbish' (as you like to say) and I can make it better and less expensive! I've even taken a peek at the high end designers and I'm shocked at all the short cuts they take in the sewing process. I take sneaky pictures of the garments I like and how they are constructed for my inspiration file. The only problem becomes the availability, to the home sewist, of the beautiful unique patterns, designs and colors on the fabrics. Anyway, I've stepped off my soap box. And can I say, you exude youth and beauty, even when you are hiding your grey hair and picked off nail polish. But I understand. The little bit of pampering makes us feel so much better about ourselves, doesn't it. I don't consider it a treat or extravagant anymore to pamper ourselves. It affects us, our peace of mind, our mood and the loved ones around us. When we feel good, they feel good. Geez, I've written a book. Bye! Have a great weekend.
