When you shred the zote soap let it sit out for two days then crumble it with your hands to make a power. Two days of drying the shredded zote.

Hi! I use a similar recipe and I wanted to add a little tip for you. I don't grate my soap. I wouldn't mind doing it, but I feel like it would end up being heavier and wouldn't disperse as evenly or dissolve quickly. I use the blade on my food processor to chop it, after I've cut it into larger cubes, then pulse it. I take my time so that the soap doesn't melt from the heat. Let it cool as needed, Then I add some of the washing soda in to continue grinding it up. after the washing soda is added, it grinds down to almost the same size as the powder. I have a large food processor and I have to do it in batches so I have room to add the WS, but it takes no time and I don't have to grate the soap or worry about it not dissolving quickly in the washer. I also spread it out in a trash back to allow it to cool for a few minutes while I'm gathering the rest of my supplies. It's worked well for me! Hope this helps!

I use a similar recipe to what you have here. Only I make mine in tabs. As this video is a couple of years old, I am not certain if you will read this or not. However, I wanted to give you a suggestion as to what I do for my Zote soap. I do use a food processor, and mine (like you said yours does) has the larger holes. However, I also have my bottom blade in at the same time that I am shredding the soap. This causes the soap to end up as a fine granule. I think it mixes better that way and is so much quicker and easier that way. Now I also use Fels Naptha in my recipe, and I shred them together. Thus I am uncertain if the two together may actual be causing it to granulate, but certainly worth trying.

New sub😊 I make my own laundry detergent too. A tip someone gave was to freeze the zote before you grate it and that it shreds without sticking into the tiny pieces. Unfortunately I had already done my soap and yep that wasn't the best part of the recipe. But I still have a couple months leftover so mine will have lasted almost a year too. Another point someone made was that the original formula always had just washing soda not baking soda and they have seen the craze all over KZbin of mixing both in. They said while baking soda is a great cleaner on its own, you should pick one or the other to put in. So to make a long story longer 😂 I'm making mine this next time with only baking soda and see after a few weeks how it goes. I can always add washing soda later if I don't feel I get the same clean results.

Sorry to hear your son having allergic reaction. When I was little I wound up getting hives from powder from avon. When I was a girl scout many many years ago I was a penpal. I no longer write letters but am still in contact with some penpals through facebook and e-mail. I'd love to start writing again. Once they are all added and mixed well I put them through my food processor again. I end up having laundry detergent that is very fine and much like the detergents in the store. This helps me be a little more relaxed about it possibly clogging my machine in the future. I just spoke with a woman at a store who told me her friend's washing machine was ruined and they blamed it on her homemade laundry detergent. They said it clogged her machine. I will also do a good cleaning in my machine on a regular basis, monthly or so to prevent clogging

Allergy to laundry detergent?

So few questions: Would you consider this a natural laundry detergent? Is it good for kids who have sensitive skin?
@DiaMeraz6 жыл бұрын
Hello, I don't think I would consider this a natural detergent. It's just more of a homemade one. I used to love making it because it smelled so good and I didn't have to use very much of it to get my clothes clean and fresh. I felt like they came out very soft too. My son had an allergic reaction to something...we still don't know what caused it and he's 18 now, so I thought it might have been the detergent at the time. This was safe for the both of us to use, but I know everyone's body can react differently. I would love to say that I still make this detergent, but time and space have been limited for me. And I haven't found a detergent that I love as much to this day :-(
Is borax really necessary? I hear would be harmful for kids if use too much too often. Any thought on borax?

I bet she’s a scientist. Did you see how she used gravity to transfer ingredients to the big plastic tub? Genius! Great demo for us slow learners of how gravity can be useful!

Two different water softeners? No explanation why. Note that baking soda is not effective as a water softener. Omit it. Washing mostly with salty water. This is not a detergent. The only surfactant is bar soap. Only 0.09 oz of soap per load. Little more than the weight of a dime! Will deposit soap scum. Rinse with vinegar.
