@mikehagan2783

@@ChrisMaherDIY I bought the sp511e as a way to get around wled but it very limited in the effects department compared to wled. I would say that that the main benefit. The sound reactive version of wled is nice because you have everything you had before plus sound reactive effects.

Pretty slick, man! very straightforward, clean, and looks awesome! I like that you kept your options open on power injection. I probably would have injected power from the other end just for my own sanity, but that's my OCD talking. As you mentioned in another comment, this would be very easy to convert over to WLED. I'm not sure if LedFx supports matrices or not, but that may be a viable option to pair with WLED. I like the simplicity of being able to connect to this with Bluetooth and that it just works, but I would definitely want it on wifi and would want some non-music uses for it as well. I may have to put together a matrix now and play with it, you've given me some ideas 😅
@ChrisMaherDIY
@ChrisMaherDIY 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks as always! Yeah I tried to make it so you can easily swap designs or controllers. I also didn't need any power injection as I was running the lights at about 10% brightness. Anything more than 10% was just way too bright for my liking. But If I were trying to run everything at 100%, for sure would need the extra juice for some of the white animations! Thanks again for taking the time to comment and for watching!

On the SP107E manual it says that you need an external power source to run it(as in the power must go to the LED's and the lights), however you didn't do that and I also noticed that your LED strip didn't have the adapter connected to it. Did you remove it?

Great project. Loving watching all your videos atm. I'm new to the channel but inspired to try a few of your projects in the new year. Quick question...I can see you recommended possibly injecting more power into parts that look discolored in bigger projects...does that involve installing another ac power source the same as the one you used or is there a different process. Sorry if the question is a little confusing.
@ChrisMaherDIY
@ChrisMaherDIY Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for watching and thanks for taking the time to comment! I've never done really big installs so i've still only just used 1 ac power supply for some of the bigger projects I've done. That generally means you can just run separate wires from the power source (same power source that is hooked up to the beginning of the led strip) to the end of the strip (or middle or both) Now depending on the project, it might just be easier to use a separate power supply but if you do that just make sure you cut the strip at some point and only have the 2 sections that are powered by different units connected via the data cable if that makes sense!

That's really awesome!!!! I love it. Does this also allow LED light to re-act to listen to from the speaker and re-act to it? I am thinking of adding these led strips to entertainment door panels for the home theater and turn this on for music. I wonder if there is a way to direct the music/sounds from AV receiver to sync the leds to it. Maybe there already better way to do exactly just that just i'm not ware yet.

Wow! Thanks for sharing this DIY, is it posible to add more led segments or up to how many is it posible with the power adapter?
@ChrisMaherDIY
@ChrisMaherDIY 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! You can add a lot of segments. I'm not exactly sure how many but at some point you will notice the colors start to look off. That means you will have to inject some power around that point so that everything looks good again. How many led's it will take to start noticing the colors are off depends on what power supply you use and how bright you want to run the lights at. Hope that helps!!

@ChrisMaherDIY
@ChrisMaherDIY 2 жыл бұрын
You for sure can do the square project soldering your own led strips instead of using the ones I made. The square project was one of the first things I made and I was still very much learning as I went so thats why I used a led strip that could be compared with a govee strip instead of using a ws2812b strip like I do in most of my new projects.

Hey Chris, i have one question, isn't 10 ampere power supply too little? I've checked it on btf site and they say 1 led consumes 0.3w, which means for 360 leds basically you will need at least double of the power you have here, can you see a drop in power supply when you turn the leds on at max luminosity ?! by injecting the power from both sides the problem still exists? Kind regards
@ChrisMaherDIY
@ChrisMaherDIY Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for watching and great question! I'm more of a trial and error type of tinkerer. I generally test things out with the leds I plan on using and with a much smaller power source than what would typically be recommended and see what happens. If things dont look good, then I add injection or a larger power supply. Now if I were to run this amount of lights at full white and full brightness with no power injection you would for sure see voltage drop. However, in most every project i've done, i never have a need to run them at full white or full brightness so using a much smaller supply generally works out just fine because for pretty much every animation, it looks great since its not drawing near the amount of power needed for full white on full brightness. Now with this number of leds, If I injected power at the end, I'm fairly confident that even at full white and full brightness it would look great but I cant remember for sure If I tested this out. One nice thing about using the wago connectors is how easy it it to add power! Hope that helps a little!
@JulianMino
@JulianMino Жыл бұрын
I have been thinking the same about the power. Chris, have you been running this project with the 10A power supply? Have you noticed any issues with it?
@The46845
@The46845 Жыл бұрын
It is worth mentioning that the 60amps per LED is only when the LED is on and white. This is rarely the case with a project like this. Though 10amps seems low it likely does a fine job considering the lights are only really using about half of the max power draw

@ChrisMaherDIY
@ChrisMaherDIY Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! That is a good question. I know the one connector does allow for a lot more led than what I'm using. You could for sure use 2 but I'm not sure if they would be able to be controlled simultaneously if that's what your wondering. I think you would have to go back and forth between the two if that makes sense. You could probably try splitting the data line coming off the controller and using that to hook up 2 different section. Both sections would then be doing the same thing at the same time!

Thanks so much for watching! For all the projects you mentioned, I'm using a separate controller. For the controllers, i'm using WLED installed on an esp board. My how-to video for that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ioCon3mBgdJsidk One cool thing about the WLED program is that they have a sync feature that you can control all the lights connected to other controllers on the same wifi network at once. It works great!

Thanks so much for watching and I appreciate the support my friend! So I wish I could tell you its done automatically but all i'm doing is syncing up all my led lights via WLED (all of your lights that are connected via WLED to the same wifi network can be controlled at once) Then I just quickly change the color which changes all the led lights to match as best as I can to what's on the tv. At some point I want to see if its possible to do this automatically like the hue or govee kits but i'm not sure if it is or if it would work on a projection screen.

Great minds think alike! You could do something pretty much the exact same but you would probably need some power injection at least at the end and more than likely the middle. Usually, if you don’t care much about the “white” color accuracy, you can get away with a lower amp supply. A good rule is divide the amps “needed” by 3… and that should be enough for most color effects. Example: 21.6 A / 3 = 7.2 A (should be fine).
@McPersun
@McPersun 7 ай бұрын
A led at full white brightness needs around 50mA. So that’s 18amps but he isn’t using full white so it’s only around 9A if all are displaying purple or something similar at 100 brightness
