DIY Over the Shoulder GoPro Camera Rig

Here's my take on Indy Mogul's DIY Over the Shoulder GoPro Camera Rig.
I built it to record Vidcon 2013.

Hey Brook - I used my backpack rig at the MN State Fair and shot about 60,000 images on a 2 sec timer. Roughly 33 hours of shooting. I spent 5 days capturing the day and life at the fair! Thanks again for the awesome video!

Awesome. I'm looking into doing this exact same thing at some of my local conventions. PVC pipe sure costs alot less then what is available on the internet for a similar product. And it will be fully customized

Great Rig!! I used your framework except that I also added a stabilizer at the bottom of the backpack with end caps as well. I also bought a 14,000mah battery for the extended power ability. Thanks again!

Great Do-it-yourself video. I am planning to do it next weekend. What kind of portable usb battery are you using?? Gopro camera needs an input of 3.7 v, majority of portable USD battery I checked through intenet are 5 v mostly design for Cellular phones. Thanks for your advice

Brook Dain I bought a Jackery® Giant+ Premium Portable Charger Aluminum 12000mAh Power Pack and External Battery Bank with 5 v output. What problems will that cause for my 3.7v camera?

Should be fine GoPros work great powered by USB. USB standard is 5 volts. If you are running the camera all day use the 1 amp USB outlet it'll create less heat and put less stress on your GoPro's battery.

this video is soooo soothing..i feel so relaxed. Though your drill was hard to watch...its all wrong! :D the "controll" has to be pushed to the "wrong" side (in my mind) for it to rotate clockwise (im having a hard time describing this...)

I know the drill is running backwards... It was pre-drilled for the video. so I wasn't actually doing the drilling, just going through the motions for the camera.

I like this DIY, I have a question can you use graffiti spray instead of pvc spray ? or would it go of the pvc ? because Graffiti is cheaper and holds on a lot materials. I never used pvc.

Sharing good ideas I can add it is also possible keeping the case (the smaller 3+) and using external microphone/composite/power with a solution similar to this GoPro Hero3 + Black - DIY external mic adapter cable to fit inside case (waterproof)

Hi, this are PVC Pipes, i'm planning to bring Overseas, won't this be an issue with TSA checks? won't they did i'm planning a pipe bomb or something? this is by far the best way to record my whole journey trip from out of a plane to in a plane and the destination.

Very nice, but that is overkill on the JB Weld, LOL. Some super gluse gel would have worked fine, and if you could have fund a shorter bolt to begin with it would have been better. You could have added another stabilizer on the bottom, which might be overkill, but I can see you like overkill. And try to find a USB cable with a 90 degree plug, so your cable won't stick out so much.

Why not just put the nut on the outside of the end cap and tighten it down. No glue nessesary.

Try the GoProb .... a cheap pole mount adaptor using cheap PVC. Works for the Drift and Contour cams. Google deadcatdot to see it. You would have saved so much time and material in making your shoulder mount using our little widget.

Having the drill motor on FORWARD would probably help you drill through the PVC faster! Haha. Otherwise, great video and DIY!
