DIY Reef Tank Sump - 29 Gallon Tank

This video is about a diy reef tank sump. The tank is a standard aqueon 29 gallon fish tank from petco. I used GE1 silicone and corian for the baffles. Email me @ [e-mail] if you want a baffle kit. I only ship to US.

Nice Billy. If you want to check your water volumes, just do the math: height*width*depth/231 should give you gallons

I've never made a 10 gallon sump. I won't be able to make baffles til around the middle of July

Awesome video! I have a few questions on flow rates.What size tank is this going to be used on? What is the maximum turnover ratio? What size return pump is being used? Wouldn't making the left baffle a bit longer/lower push the water down further to alleviate the small amount of skipping what ever media is in the middle? I love the design. Great for the DIY'er! I plan on using this design for a 100g freshwater tank. Much easier with the overhead partitions. Alleviates needless siliconing on the tank itself.

Raymond Sloan I'm not sure what tank and equipment is going with this sump. I built this for a customer per his dimensions. And keeping the baffles at the same height has been better than others I've seen. This is around the 20th sump I've built so far and haven't had any complaints from ppl using them👍

Billy if you dropped the right hand divider to 10” instead of 11” you will probably get better circulation in the refugium section - give it a try next time you build one.

Will this sump hold an additional 6 gal of possible water backflow (with power outage) in the return chamber? I have a 75 gal tank and calculated 5-6 gallons of possible backflow. Thank you!

They crawl around the pinky filter, my display tank is loaded with pods and I started the tank with dry rock and dry sand

Nice Billy, What happens if the left baffle blocker is accidentally pushed against the baffle? Maybe add a little baffle blocker blocker so the baffle won't be blocked by the baffle blocker? what do ya think? hehe.
