You play factorio in such a wild way and I love it. So many factorio KZbinrs make these insane intricate and perfect solutions to everything, meanwhile you just bandaid fix everything until it’s just good enough to work. Why up production when you can just manually send a train to the stop? Madness, I never in a thousand years would have done that, and yet it WORKS. You have the skill of a seasoned engineer and the work ethic of someone crawling across the finish line of their first rocket, and I mean that wholeheartedly as a compliment.

As someone who loves needlessly complicating rail networks, I really like your diagonal tracks. I prefer triple-lane, braided, bi-directional tracks myself, but diagonal cells are fresh :). And 1-1 trains are best trains. Who cares about 1-2 efficiency? Double the trains = double the fun!
@angeldude101
@angeldude101 3 ай бұрын
Can you confirm what you mean by "braided" in this context? I can't imagine any way that could apply to rails without creating a monstrous amount of unnecessary deadlocks.
@2Links
@2Links 3 ай бұрын
@@angeldude101 I would assume they mean that the tracks are connected many times (don't remember a word for it in english), presumably in a braid like pattern, allowing trains to switch between them whenever
@AtrakKarta
@AtrakKarta 3 ай бұрын
@@2Links Yeah, interwoven also works. Three parallel bi-directional tracks that allow extremely frequent lane changes. A train in any lane can transfer onto any other lane at any point along the track. It actually prevents deadlocks and massively reduces the need for braking, theoretically and up to a point, by allowing a train to path around slower trains (oncoming/off going). The 'theoretical' is because I haven't stress-tested it yet. I designed it in the newest part of my last vanilla base, and it didn't see much traffic before I stopped. I tested it by parking trains in it at random points and the other trains pathed around them just fine. I understand what @angeldude101 is saying, though. If six trains (three from each direction) tried to go through the same point on the tracks at the same moment and it wasn't at an exit, it's possible the trains would deadlock and block that section of track. This should be avoidable by using chain signals up to the previous exit, but testing would be needed to see if this is the case. With the new rail bridges coming out, though, I'd probably just have proper intersections for anywhere that would see that much traffic :).

ah finally, my weekly dose of underrated factorio youtuber content! Also, if you could, would you mind looking into uploading your script into the youtuber captions thingy? I'm not sure how it works exactly but I guess KZbin will for the most part know where to place captions based off your script, and that's very nice for someone hard of hearing like myself.

Oh you made those? As someone who quite enjoys doing trains in factorio... I did notice that at several points in the video your signal placement causes deadlocks with trains stopping inside of a junction... A simple rule I make for blueprinting intersections: I don't place any block signals in my junction blueprints, and instead leave the exits completely blank. All of my blueprints are set up to only have an entry signal, so chaining them together creates blocks. It works really neat.
@bocian8321
@bocian8321 Ай бұрын
 @roadtrain_ Deadlocks? That shouldn't be possible, unless you use REALLY long trains, and Doc uses just 2 car ones. The only instances where I could find trains stopping inside junctions like you mentioned while skimming through the video weren't actually inside junctions but at the stations Doc made in the corners of the 4-ways and traffic seems to flow just fine past them as well as when some trains run out of fuel. Please give a timestamp if you think I missed something. I use signals inside to subdivide the junction block further and separate the paths of trains that don't use the same parts of the track so they can go past each other without interference. The way Doc places the 4-ways without any straight sections in between is the only thing I could see causing issues, but that's more throughput than deadlock-related.

One thing I like to do for trains after a refuel station is a "empty" station that acts a a train depot that the train goes to after the fueling and then restarts it's schedule. That way if the stop after the refuel is disabled, it will wait at the depot instead of the refuel station, just have one depot station per train if you never want to worry about train lock and you're good!

17:00: There's an eazy way to make a deadlock-safe generic unloader station even in vanilla so your lab cells would have only 1 input (or 1 per 40 science types). It's cool but have throughput problems since each train needs to carry ALL possible items. The way you do so is by setting filters to the items those are both missing and presented in the parked train, and the train lives the station by inactivity. Technically, you are not restricted by all trains having all items, but then some of them would run in useless loops.

A trick I learned on my on run about train getting stuck at fuel or waiting stations. Instead of disabling the station, set the number of trains allowed with a circuit, with mod of train capacity based on the current amount held by the station. Disabling the stations causes trans to go to the next stop, limiting the trains to 0, cause the train to wait at the current station. And to make sure the train don't get stuck, set the schedule like this - 1º Starting at the unloading (wait until train is empty) so they don't keep running around. - 2º Loading station, which will be limited by circuit (train limit), so it only open when it will be able to load a train - 3º Fuel/Waiting station, so it always pass trough the fueling before going to the unloader, which will be in need of trains since it only leave once the train is empty whit this setup, the trains won't go from Unloading to fueling then to unloading again while there is no open station available. They will only leave station 1º when they have a loading station open, and they will have a unloading available for them to arrive.
