The reason why the Dodgers went for him is due to the strike out rate of Snell compared to Burnes. Burnes' strike out rate is going down, which shows he's declining. Snell's strikeout rate is still at his peak level. So even though he's 32, he hasn't shown signs of slowing down.

The Dodgers have a win-now window that will start to close in 3-4 years and will spend to maximize their chances. Snell's 5th and possibly his 4th year is what they have to pay to get Snell for the first 3.

That’s why some of those “wacky” stats fall short on me, because never in a million years was Lux better than Teo.

Yeah, sometimes you can't trust those kind of stats. Lux started off the 2nd half really hot, but he slowed down badly in September. So really, Lux had 2 great months out of 6 months. Because of baseball variance, Lux happened to have his 2 months great to start the 2nd half. Do you trust the 2 months of Lux more than the entire season of Teoscar or 2nd half of Teo? I wouldn't at this point. Players can have 2 great months. It's baseball. Lux gets some grace due to just coming back from injury. But I don't think it's very telling of anything. It's too small a sample size.

Aces don't come cheap. Burnes will be over $200. Snell might have the best stuff in all of baseball, the highest K rate among active SPs, and his underlying metrics this past season were as good as they've ever been. 3.33 playoff ERA (with a 30.3% K rate) and a 2.70 ERA in the WS
