Interesting debate, but I felt it was really messy and missed the question for the most part. I think the Indian Girl at part 4-5 summed it up best. The Question is not whether you think Islamist groups are a threat to the West, but whether Islamism - politics based on Islam - are a threat to the West. Muslim Brotherhood, Taliban etc... are examples of Islamism, not what defines it - it is Political Movements Based on Islamism. Sarah Joseph answered it best that it can be anything anyMuslim wants it to be. If you believe Islam is chopping limbs off and oppressing women and attacking Christians, and you turn it into a political party, it is a threat to the West. If you believe Islam is all peaceful and loving of Western Christians, and turn that into a political party, then it is not a threat.

Nawaz was 100% correct what to do much of the audience is religiously biased. This itself shows what the problem in middle east. They cannot even understand separation of church and state.

the only reason that the Bible still acknowledges these punishments is because they are used as metaphors to show how serious (in a spiritual sense) the transgressions of stealing ,murder, adultery, etc are. we don't actually use those punishments anymore.
@adm2399 Жыл бұрын
Because you can't use that anymore...because West has inclined towards secular and liberal values. Don't lie.

Sarah Joseph is an absolute nightmare. Holy heavens! Nawaz spends ages saying that yes, muslims should enter politics, no, this isn't the same as Islamism which has a fundamentalist ideology. She completely ignores all this and starts talking about how muslims can bring something beautiful to politics -- which no-one disagreed with. That's very dishonest and her self-righteousness feels so bogus and insincere.

1. I feel sick hearing Sarah Joseph screaming about her right as a Muslim to bring what she believes to the table. Islamism is to believe that it is a legitimate reason for laws to justify them with faith based beliefs, with what is written in religious scriptures and that faith based beliefs isn´t just a matter for the believer in Islam to follow him/herself. Like a normal human being in the 21th century would think it is.

i have to agree with nawaz because what he says is true. if any religious group is in power then laws are made to cater to a specific group and minorities don't have power. religion is a choice, the common is not. don't combine the two. that is why i oppose shariah law and religion i general. religionn forces people to follow rules that are senseless and religion in itself is a dictatorshhip where god is the dictator

i dont like the female's speaker tone . and i think its different when a person lives in the uk and tries to defend religion and identity and its different for the people living in muslim countries with islamist regimes where they see their freedoms limited cause of the law. id chose any country to live over saudi arabia any moment

I hate debates like this where both sides agree on everything important but instead argue about what the motion is about. It was a badly phrased motion though.

@leotakesleo maybe you don't understand, but there is not muslim vs the world or any religion vs the world. people, especially muslims are too diverse in their ideology that i can't seriously say muslims are a cohesive group who can be targeted.

All those thing you are saying were done by a system......Colonialism, imperialism whatever you want to say . which they happen to be christian..but whenever there is a voilence because of muslim is because they do it in the name of relegion.

Of course it's a threat. Vast majority of countries in the West are secular. While they do tolerate religious beliefs, they're not (and they shouldn't be) indorsed. Even if the opposing side argues nuances in favor of the good things from Islam; why do we need Islam? We could just rationalize good governance without being influenced by any religious faith.

lol what a suprise and this screaming Sarah makes absolutely no distinction between Political islamic movement who want to dehumanize and ban stuff. and a normal politician who wanna follow the constitution regardless of which western country it is in.
@luciusael14 жыл бұрын
@az11z9 I think they're missing the heart of the issue in this debate: the conflict between secularism and religion. You can have a party that is 'Islamic", but it could easily operate under secular ideologies -- as is the case in Turkey. The problem arises when leaders structure their government over theocratic foundations, since this is when the social neutrality that is naturally by secularism & democracy begins to be lost, and you get a society that comes to favour one group over another.

People in Ireland are so intimidated by holy men that parents sent their children to the same priests that abused them when they were children. How fucked up is that? I am more than a little concerned about my young son coming home from school and telling me all about Jesus as if he was real.I consider this to be invasive and the only choice to avoid it is to take him out of school. people can believe what they want but they should leave our children alone

religion is like a fairy tale ... nothing is true :) i think the debate been messed up the question is not if muslim can go in politic cause of course they can and they are welcome cause yes they will bring another point of view and provide a better understanding and acceptance for islam but the question is about political islam so it means sharia law, it mean other religion people to pay the jizya and probably other thing i don' know :) sry for my english i am not very good :)

5. This debate was in bad lack of a non Muslim in the panel to clarify that the reason for that Islamism always becomes intolerant and ugly is because that is what a literal Islam is. Literal Islam is even too disgusting for most Islamists to be able to take all of it. The ones who cut of people´s heads for "religious crimes" have not at all misunderstood anything about what it means to literally follow the Quran and other sayings and doings of Mohammad.
@katnils12 жыл бұрын
9. Yes Sarah. Muslims can contribute in politics just like everyone else. By bringing forth evidence and reason to why they think something should be in a certain way, just like everyone else is expected to do. NOT by justifying any politics at all with any religious scriptures they have faith in. That is your business as a believer to follow. And an absolute nonsensical argument for everyone who doesn´t believe in your religion or in your particular interpretation of it. You´re despicable.
