I think Dolly is one of the last living legends I grew up hearing in my Appalachian home. I'm miles away and much older now, but as soon as the music starts the tears do, too. I miss that time and place in my life so much it takes my breath. The world is so different, in many ways better, but that memory of damp grass under bare feet will always be mine. Here's to all who, like me, have come here to relish the past.

I love so far from you, Wales Uk but I understand. I live by the beach and it's changed massively since I was a child. It's like night and day. I find myself doing the same - it's almost like a different planet. I feel it's probably the same for all the generations of late, life is getting better but the changes can also be difficult to adjust to. A relatively minor country girl singer on a relatively minor country music show, so country it almost hurt, so easy to caricature....no reason to believe we were seeing one of the great American icons and one of the most inventive and creative artists in American history. I was born in Southern California but my parents raised me on country music. My grandfather was an original mountain man who owned a cabin he built himself and lived just south of Alturas, ca. As a little girl my first pair of shoes were boots. This music brings back good childhood memories for me. A simpler life before I became a wild teenager in Los Angeles.
