Medium sized construction equipment and trailers are hot theft items . Add an independent theft tracking device, like the Apple air tag. Had a Case loader stolen from a construction site, was Air Tag tracked to a local warehouse where police recovered my loader and several other pieces of stolen equipment. Even the trailer they hauled it on was stolen. Ended up breaking an East European theft ring.

Peeled a stamped steel hitch on the Alcan Hwy once long ago. I had power tools but no power. Great story about how an elderly couple (driving a Dodge Polara with a trailer) saved the day. They had a generator buried in their travel trailer because the trunk of the Polara was full of beer coolers! Happy trails 👍🏼

@@daleallen7634 When you get in the cab, before you can start the engine on some of their equipment you have to enter a pass code. (I think I saw him needing to enter one (off camera obviously) on an earlier episode). Excavators (from all manufacturers) need one but not all forklifts do, I am not sure about all cat skid steers.

you should also be backing the skid steer on as that puts the heavy end towards the tongue that way it doesn't get light and sway.

All chains are required to be fastened so each corner chain is totally independent of the others. You can use one long chain as you have on the rear, but each half of the chain has to be used independently. Basically chain it in a way that if one side comes loose, the other side stays tight. With the tie off points being so far back, your chain is too short to tie down like that. Easiest to just cut it in half and and add hooks to make it into two chains. Many states also require a separate chain to tie the loader down. Stake pockets are perfectly acceptable tie points. Just drop the chain through, then bring the hook back up to hook it over the top edge of the pocket. We've tied equipment like that for years.
@MrX-fb9uy
@MrX-fb9uy 18 сағат бұрын
The chain explanation is close, but chains aren't required to be "used" independently, yet are rated individually according to the link size and grade for load compliance purposes. Providing a chain of sufficient grade is used, one chain may be utilized as long as each side meets relevant state CMV inspection load securement guidelines, i.e. equals load securement per load weight/length secured. The issue here is the hook Ray used on the front of his uniloader would fail a CMV inspection. The throat of the hook is too narrow and doesn't fully engage in the pad eye. At least what I observed in the video. In this load, each chain is evaluated independently in it's weight securing capacity being equal or greater than minimum compliance standards. Suppose the uniloader weighed 16k lbs, each chain/ratchet binder would need to be rated individually to secure 4k lbs. Stake pockets on that trailer are ordinarily rated at 2,500 lb capacity, so the load would fail inspection as 5k total is less than the 8k minimum. The ratchet binder is also an often overlooked item as the chineseium binders are typically rated at 3.5k. Another inspection failure item. Same with welded D rings. However, unless Ray is hauling a commercial load in a commercial capacity, most CMV officers (and yes, in Florida there are certified municipal and county officers for CMV inspections as well as certified FHP troopers) , as long as the chains weren't loose - he wouldn't be stopped. I have yet , in over forty-five years of commercial haul experience, met a CMV inspector who pays strict attention to private loads on small dually trailers due to the amount of commercial traffic monitored. Florida also allows chain/binders to overhang the trailer. It isn't recommended but allowed. In other states, it isn't. I wouldn't have secured that load in the manner Ray has, but he didn't ask, and I didn't offer. Nor do I suspect he cares either.

Claiming that a stamped hitch is inferior to a cast one doesn’t make sense. A stamped part is cold formed ( or hot, who knows) and that is a form of forging. There is little chance on material defects unlike a cast product. Not saying one is better than the other but I’d go with any overliad tests and vertification if they exists at all.

You should be dropping the hook through that square Stakeholder. thing that's attached to the side of the trailer and then bringing the hook up around the top. So both your hook is at the top and the chain is coming out of that stake holder on the top.

Instead of longer chains, weld on more D rings. The load needs better lateral retention which you would get with closer rings. You are not just securing for a normal ride home but for a SHTF incident. When I ordered my utility trailer I requested D-rings every 2 feet instead of just one in each corner. I've used them all at one time or another. That long crossed chain at the rear don't cut it. Separate chain on each side connected closer. All IMO

It seems to me, that with your high rating of there hitch products, and your vast audience they could add a link to your channel. And send you product to evaluate. This would give them more then a review comment. Your not being paid, but you get product to show off and test. Saves you some money. Your not under any obligation to give a 5 star review. I can see by comparison its a big upgrade over the stock parts.

id trust those stake pockets more than the d-ring. sure, the d-ring is more beefy but its held on by two welds. the stake pocket is part of a structure. d-rings should be welded to a base plate which is welded to the trailer to spread out the load. this spring when i bought a dump trailer, thats one thing i looked for was d-rings with base plates because ill be hauling a skidder in from time to time. instead of putting in a bigger spring pack, im going to try an air bags system from airlift or firestone, not sure which one yet. i have a ram 2500 slt with the shorter wheel base so the ride can be rough.
