There has been an absolute media frenzy surrounding the release of Olivia Wilde’s Don’t Worry Darling. Did Harry Styles spit on Chris Pine? Was Shia Laboeuf fired? Did Olivia Wilde and Florence Pugh get in a shouting match on set? Are Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde even still talking? Did Nick Kroll just kiss Harry Styles?! In the midst of all the chaos, it’s been easy to forget that there’s an actual movie surrounding the drama!
Don’t Worry Darling definitely raises some questions. Like what is going on, and will we get any answers for any of it? How does this simulation thing even work? How is Jack’s simulation life any better than his previous life? How does this simulation not have any safeguards against escape? What was the point of the electroshock therapy if it doesn’t even hold for five minutes? Did three cars just crash into each other in an open desert?
To answer all these questions, check out the pitch meeting that led to the Don’t Worry Darling!

There's also a strong showing of "a political message that overwhelms the actual film". Highlighting gender issues is a laudable goal (particularly because there are a disgusting amount of people who don't understand them), but but when the message overrides the logic of the film it just confuses and defangs the message. Kind of like what happened with District 9 and racism.

I feel like it could've been improved massively by linking the weird events to the real world. Like Ryan said, when the husband excercises her legs she could suddenly cut to going for a run and not know how she got there. They could film all the actresses not blinking and randomly having watery eyes in scenes. They could have the only food in the simulation be whatever they feed coma patients. You know, just generally connecting plot hints to the actual story. Making the woman who is sacrificing her life to be with (simulations of) her kids actually really happy to see them again would also help. Like, have her be unreasonably happy and grateful. I think that would sell it a bit more.

Which admitedly may be a little biased by nostalgia since i havent seem any of these movies in like five years or more. But the 5 movie was always the more boring to me, closely followed by the 6 y 7 that were full of teen drama that feel more like filler than anything else. The fact that the 5 is one of the worst adaptations of them all, cutting a loooot of stuff, only makes this dislike stronger. And the first two movies i found them to be the perfect adaptations. In the sense that, while flawed, they most of the important stuff intact and and maintain the feel of the original better that any other. I really feel the magic in them. Plus, they're charming and simple for all ages stories, just like the books. The other movies tend to go either too far with the darkness (like, literal darkness, some of them feel like the actors werent allowed to see the sun all though filming, or the director was only willing to work on rainy days) or with the teenage aspect. I juat feel they aged rather poorly. Maybe one could say the same about the first two, but i think they're more timeless than dated. Oh, and for sure the third one is the best. It possibly elevates the story its telling, that may not be best of them originally.

Or a serious drama where producer guy is schizophrenic and pitches movies to himself all day. At first he is confined to a mental hospital until hollywood discovers him and so they kidnap him and put him in a room where he pitches movies to himself all day every day, only pausing to eat, sleep, and defecate. There will be several scenes of producer guy defacating, sometimes violently. It's going to take up a good chunk of screen time. Anyways eventually he's going to realize that escaping his captors is super easy, barely an inconvenience. So he does a back flip, snaps the badguys neck and escapes. "The Producer"

@@301.allday True but this movie is a classic with a devoted following. There's way more crap out there that deserves to get trashed by Ryan.

@@Jason-jb3xt me? I like the show. Though it does have some gaping holes (that I’m sure Producer Guy and Screenwriter Guy would do full justice to), it’s a good show and they keep me interested in what will happen next.

my favorite part was when this movie had a cross over with the mcu, with red skull showing up and telling people to clean their rooms. i wasnt clear if that was part of the simulation or real world though.

yeah, because Jordan Peterson never talks about both partners needing be competent, and never tells men to stop hating on women. It sounds like the villain is more Andrew Tate.
