If there were ever any doubt that Donny Shankle is simply the biggest, baddest Olympic weightlifter at California Strength, this video solidly destroys it. Donny jerks 225 kg (nearly 500 pounds) from the blocks then proceeds to set a new PR in the hang clean with 200 kg (440 pounds).

an average olympic weightlifter can squat and deadlift 3 times their bodyweight. since this guy on the video weighs about 120kg, he should be at least squatting and deadlifting 360kg to become an average weightlifter. I don't know why he gets 2,000,000 views and 5,000 likes from skinny little white boys while top Olympians only get up to 10k views within a year.

The ultra heavy clean and jerk are probably the most impressive lifts I see on youtube. Weights that a lot of guys struggle to deadlift, these guys are making fly off the floor and catching it on their shoulders - and then shooting it overhead. Insane. So much skill, flexibility, and total body strength.

He's strong as hell! I'm looking at the like-dislike bar and I see a strangely high percentage of dislikes. @davidpetersen9276
@davidpetersen9276 10 жыл бұрын
Still jealous haters. Over a million views is well over what even the more popular calstrength vids get (mid-100,000). If you look at their other 1 mil+ video "My Girl Is Stronger Than You" you see the same breakdown of dislikes. The titles of these videos got more abnormal viewership (random viewers and trolls) and those people disliked both vids. Nothing more, just dumb kids on youtube not appreciating what this is, which is an insane show of strength.

1. donny shankle started olympic weightlifting as a 21 year old...most those chinese lifters are selected in thier childhood years 2. i genuinely believe donny is a natural athelete, or if he does use gear then it would be a third of the amount the Chinese athletes use due to less PED testing corruption 3. the guy has been riddled with career ending injuries over and over again donnyy is one of the most naturally gifted olympic lifters of all time, if he started at the age of 10 vs 21, didnt get those injuries, and had the drug regimen of those chinese lifters he would have medalled in the olympics

Really interesting that these guys have such a different build from a bodybuilder or some of these other power lifters like Mariusz, sigmarson, bjornson etc. Is it their strength due to a better technique or just completely different training? I'm blown away by this show of strength.
@nZoot
@nZoot 10 жыл бұрын
it's all technique and doing the same lifts day in day out week in week out, and there strange body's are from the repetitive training they do. and they draw there strength from there legs, you may think that there upper bodies are strong but if they just tried to straight up shoulder press them bitchz shit would go wrong fast
@funknotik
@funknotik 10 жыл бұрын
***** Interesting, that explains alot actually. I find people with much larger muscle bellies often cannot lift as much weight wise and are surprised when a comparatively smaller person is stronger than them. Conversely I've never really been able to develop a bodybuilder type physique even when dieting down to very low body fat. I seem to grow stronger but not larger necessarily.
@trickstar33
@trickstar33 10 жыл бұрын
***** So someone can become very strong without gaining muscle mass? I'm a high school athlete with a lean build (I'm a 5'10" 175 lb running back during football and 152 lb when wrestling) and I plan on moving to MMA during college so I want to keep a smaller body with toned muscles as I do now rather than bulk up. My goal is to be able to rep 225 for bench and hang clean and 315 squat (these are my current max outs). Could I realistically do this without gaining weight?
@srtuco2154
@srtuco2154 10 жыл бұрын
Considering how much energy is used and the fast twitch fibers that are recruited when doing explosive Olympic lifts, it's surprising that some of these guys have big bellies. Lack of aerobic exercise and diet must play its part.
@BioBrah
@BioBrah 10 жыл бұрын
Allen Levina Yes, you can do that. As long as you eat calories at maintenance, you won't gain size. If you do this, most of your strength gains will come from improvements in technique and neural adaptations. If you want a good example, look up Jonnie Candito. He is currently 180 lbs, and he squats in the 500s, benches in the 300s, and deadlifts in the 600lbs.

i miss calstrength videos when it was just a bunch of dudes lifting and shooting the shit now they have like 20,000 different members, teens, females, goofing off, doing aerobics, silly stunts like tandem cleans, no-hands jerk, backflips, dancing (so much fucking dancing), and making huge clowns of themselves for views... yes, watching nicole lim do something cute for the 958473th time is nice and all...

thats only because he is not cut. he only cares about strength, not looking good so he hasnt dieted and tried to slim down. cutting usually decreases muscle mass or at least inhibits muscle growth so if youre just trying to get stronger you wouldnt cut

Thats partially why Ronnie Coleman was so great. He started as a powerlifter so he had the crazy strength when he moved to bodybuilding. Only bodybuilder I've ever seen who squats 800 lbs on leg day
@eldsprutandedrake
@eldsprutandedrake 10 жыл бұрын
Sean Ferguson Stan Efferding squats more than 800 lbs raw, Ronnie´s was with gear and he didn´t even break parallel by the looks of the video (if we are reffering to the same lift, which im betting we are :P)
@Fergie44FTW
@Fergie44FTW 10 жыл бұрын
eldsprutandedrake Efferding is a competitive poweflifter though. Not a Ronnie fan boy but he did his 90 degrees for 2 reps, as well as a 2 rep 800 lb deadlift. Whats really impressive is that he was still competing in the Olympia at the time.

"Everyone" are wrong, you are right mate :) And usually the ones you speask of usually comes from a bodybuilder's perspective, which physique ("jacked", "lean", etc') is the subjects. We, in weightlifting, powerlifting, strongman... we don't care about any of that. We just want to be strong. Dont listen to "everyone"! just do what you like mate. Layers of fat? Cool with me, as long as I can lift heavy stuff. I have muscles under my fat, otherwise I couldn't do what I do. But i'm not interested in looking "jacked", it's not a part of my progress. Simple.

takeda780 well there is also nothing good in carrying useless fat. You don't need to get fat to get strong. I'm not saying you need to be jacked or ripped... no. But if you're overeating, don't be surprised to be called a "fat pig". ;)

Rich Froning's snatches and cleans are respectable for most. Unfortunately they are 100lbs below world records for men lighter than him and only about 20lbs. more than 165lb. women's world records. Crossfit is a different animal. It's requires a lot off endurance as well as strength. This guy is moving weight Froning will probably never achieve. On the other hand Shankle probably couldn't keep up with Froning for those non-stop 20min workouts. However in a clean ladder, with the weights used at Crossfit events, I would imagine Shankle would be rather efficient. Different sports where competitors are attempting to achieve different results. Not exactly comparable.

TheMummy516 I think your friend might have misunderstood something. As I understand, it's "the most efficient way for it count". The swing pull-ups are something they designed to more reps but are less strict. But deadlifts, for example, you can't cheat on those.
