Small correction: a 20% increase to damage combined with a 20% increase to fire rate is a 44% increase to overall DPS since the extra shots you're firing are doing more damage each. 10 damage shots 100 times per second is 1,000 damage while 12 damage shots 120 times per second is 1,440 damage. The two modifiers stack multiplicatively.

The appeal of the mobile turret is purely the audio/visual feedback for me. It's my reward for having cleared out most of a room but still have some heavies or a tyrant to kill. It's sad that it doesn't stack up but being vaguely competent at Nightmare means I get to have a treat every so often with it. A side note: I feel like the Assault Cannon is literally just a few edits away from sounding amazing, it's got a good thumping beat to it. It just needs that little something. Damn thing is like, a 20mm handheld cannon, it should sound like it.

For what it's worth, in one of his livestreams Game Director Hugo Martin said that he requested the audio team to make some of the guns sound beefier, but their response was that if they went too hard on the gun sounds it would get all muddied up with the music in the mix.

16:25 Console player here. While not as efficient, you can select a weapon on the wheel the instant you hold the button to open it, meaning as long as you know where your weapons are, you can swap quickly and with relative ease.

@@starmaker75 Here’s my thing, the bow on its own can do work when used properly and it always feels like there’s less work to get it to do really good damage. I don’t feel the same for the Rail which at its default, sluggishly chips damages it’s way through everything and falls off hard in Asphodel, the second stage of the game, and fires a grenade that does similar damage to the primary fire. Even with boons, it’s a struggle to get this thing to do even decent damage even with the overpowered Zeus Boons. The alternative forms of the Rail don’t fair much better with only the Hidden 4th Form being moderately worth picking. It’s not to say you can’t do anything with it, it’s the constant struggle to get it to the point so it can do anything that makes it bad in my opinion.

This one was much crazier in Doom 2016 due to unlimited ammunition options. Like I managed to take more than 50% HP down from the Mastermind before I even started losing ammo. But yeah, Doom Eternal just has less ammo, so it;s meh.

It's not bad tbh. It's great for unloading and melting enemies when you don't wanna put too much effort or thought into killing them in the moment. I love using it on large enemies like Mancubi, Barons, Tyrants, and even the Archvile after stunning/freezing him. In fact it's my go-to weapon after exposing an Armored Baron. Just brrrrr for a few seconds and then an SSG takes him out pretty swiftly.

Yeah its kinda disappointing It should've been a quadruple increase in the DPS, for quadruple ammo consumption as a downside. Even then I doubt it'll supersede the Shield in usefulness since the Shield is that broken.

I do really love the idea of the mobile turret heating up and dealing fire damage to have another means of giving you armor. It would give it a different kind of defensive utility compared to the shield, and you could even have the damage increase the longer you sustain your fire to really encourage a classic minigun-minute style of play. That said tho it really feels like it needs some way to sustain its fire for longer because it feels like you just burn through your armmo way too fast. Maybe if it was also more efficient at spending ammo somehow, like you got 4 shots for every bullet because of doom logic.

as someone who played a FUCKTON of console doom eternal back in 2020, just tapping the weapon wheel button allowed you to combo super effectively. and for more than 3 weapons you literally just had to pull up the weapon wheel for a split second.

“Playing FPS games on a controller sucks ass and I don’t know how they do it” Simple, most games (when I was younger at least) weren’t built around the idea of keyboard controls, so playing with controller was all I had. as I grew up and got into modern gaming, sure playing with a MnK would technically be better, but I’d be trading all the muscle memory I have with controllers for the snappiness of a mouse. I can already style on keyboard players in Titanfall 2, which is absolutely not controller friendly. TL;DR: I don’t want to lose muscle memory, and it lets me sit on a couch, unlike the keyboard which you have to be stuck at a desk.

The problem with Fallout 4 weapons is the fact that there's not many to work with. Sure, there are conversions, but that seems less like a weapon itself and more like a modification for the weapon. New Vegas or 3 would be a better start than Fallout 4 due to their variety, but even then, most of the bad weapons in those games are meant to only be used relatively early on and phased out later for better items, with some exceptions like the Automatic Rifle from Dead Money (same with Fallout 4).

It's kinda funny to also look at Titanfall 2's Legion, and think about how that class uses the assault cannon, with a shield. The other abilities of the assault cannon make up for other points, however. The alt-fire can either be a blast of bullets at short range, or an explosive shot for long range, depending on which mode the assault cannon is in. And Legion's Core Ability(effectively an ultimate), Smart Core, gives the assault cannon infinite ammo and allows it to lock onto enemies, with bullets and charged shots homing in on locked-on targets. What could've been done, is the incendiary boost like you mentioned, with an extra ability where turning off Mobile Turret in this state will fire off a spray of bullets, giving it combo potential.

I think one more weakness of mobile turret is how you get made slower. Dread Knights are almost always what I use it for because I just end up eating projectiles if I’m not hopping 24/7 with it. I can move all I want with other options.

I mainly used the mobile turret as a panic button. In some of the harder arena rooms it was nice to just be able to throw a million bullets at a big enemy to take the pressure off.

Things mobile turret could do to be less outclassed by the shield: -Overheat faster and shoot incendiary(as you said) -Increase rate of fire as long as you keep firing on this mode -Shoot as normal in front but also two more, one at 15-45º of each side of the main one in a forked cone of fire to make it great for pumping massive ammounts of damage on large enemies point blank in exchange of dumping 3x the bullets -Shoot fully straight and precise, but causes non-stop stagger to whatever poor demon is now helplessly stunlocked to death (stun drops inmediatly if you lose focus to fire at another enemy, next stun takes way more to avoid cheesing it)

In my opinion the mobile turret isn’t to bad but it just gets outclassed once you understand the concept of quick switching and shield bashing, and it doesn’t help that it chews through your ammo when that ammo can be better spent on the precision bolt mod of the heavy cannon which does huge damage with headshots and the has ability to take out weak points accurately and effectively. Therefore I believe that the mobile turret is just outdated for Doom Eternal, it was good in Doom 2016 because it was more simple and grounded by the older gameplay style of the original Doom games.

I’ve noticed after playing in UV and Nightmare. Quick burst fire weapons and abilities are much more useful than automatics. The super shot gun, the precision shot on the heavy rifle, the ballista. Stuff that allows you to deal big damage or hit weak points while staying mobile. Cause in any Doom game, if you stand still for too long you die

Its amazing. I love to use it in conjunction with remote detonate and the microwave beam.

This thing sounds pretty similar to the Syringe guns from TF2. Decent mid-range dps with its own special perks if you know how to use it (i.e. arcing projectiles or faltering Barons) and good to use as training wheels to improve at the game without the crutch of the clear superior weapons. I'll politely disagree. I've seen a ton of mileage out of this one weapon and you're right, using it as a starter or finisher IS the way to go, but if you have that strategy locked in and know what you're doing, the gun effectively turns into a better chaingun that dishes out more damage in a shorter amount of time; really helps when taking advantage of stun combos before cycling to a different weapons. Not the best option, but highly cost effective for what it is and essentially only gets stronger the longer you're able to hold that trigger down which is situationally VERY strong. I'd say it heavily boils down to your playstyle; if you are a combo king who likes going absolutely ballistic then yeah it'll suck but if you're a more defensive player who does their short combos and gets out before they get crowded and kites enemies towards them, I think it works great, especially given unlike a rocket or grenade you can redirect aim to other enemies with little to no penalty for doing so. It's a turret and should be used like one.

The mobile turret IS NOT a bad weapon, it completely rips apart heavy demons and allows you to shred some bosses, it doesn't have the defensive utility of the shield but it can rip apart almost anything with some concentrated fire, and it's almost as much DPS and quick swapping super shotgun into scope heavy cannon

Micro missiles are only useful for fodder, but for tight groups you might aswell use grenades Balista is for heavy burst Quad chain is a complete waste of resources, the only reason you'd even use chaingun primary with shield is to get extra damage in.

MT will always have this problem because every other weapon in the game offers something unique, even if we limit ourselves away from Shield.

From what I know of the doom series is they started doing a kind of lock and key system for the weapons around 2013. Basically what I'm saying is that each weapon and weapon mod has a specific and special situation where it is intended to be most effective but not necessarily outside of that specific situation and use point. Yes obviously there are going to be some weapons that naturally preform better but even though those exist the idea is to have a situation where if someone isn't quite as good with other weapons and are having troubles with the use of those weapons on certain enemies then they can get a slightly lower difficulty while still technically being on the higher difficulty. For example let's say that the difficulties are similar to what kid iccarus uprising does where it requires certain difficulty levels for certain cut scenes and certain weapon drops to happen. Well some of the weapons are extremely hard to use for certain missions and others are fairly easy on higher difficulty levels. So for example if the minimum level requirement to advance on a certain mission is 5 but you selected the gauntlets to take on that mission which essentially increases the level to 7 you are choosing that effort and skill requirement to be greater than the basic requirements but not rising as much. Likewise the opposite side of the coin has the same difficulty level requirement but the player is of a naturally lower skill level and because of that the game has a weapon type that can be more easily used by the lower skill player thus lowering the actual level requirement to something like 3 because instead of using the normally used weapon (bow) they use the (orbitars) to offer a way for less skilled players to still have fun. I used skill levels, difficulty levels , and weapons from the kid iccras game because it actually does work this way though not quite as drastically as that explanation but I believe that the example is still relevant. That game allows you to adjust the difficulty of every level to a fairly exacting level. We are talking about from .1 to 10.00 in .1 increments if I'm remembering correctly and certain mission absolutely require certain minimum difficulty settings to be able to progress in the story. This difficulty can be further tuned by choice of weapons which can increase or decrease the effective difficulty by an additional but small amount. These small difficulty changes can mean the difference between players quitting on mass and leaving bad reviews or angrily demanding a refund. Then other problems are also solved by the player learning new gameplay mechanics and generally feeling better about themselves.

Just saying, Mobile Turret should be firing four times the bullets, AKA, a 400% increase in damage output and ammo drain. That would easily contend with Energy Shield.

An idea I had for the Mobile Turret is an explosion of shrapnel upon death, damage based on how much damage you did with the chaingun. It may be more flavor than actual gameplay but I see it as you putting a shitton of bullets into the enemies at a rapid pace and when they explosively die, the bullets you put into them scatter all about.

you should do a BWA on the sawed off from Gears 3. Possibly the shortest range of any shotgun in any game, well, ever released. It makes the Doom 3 shotgun look like a sniper rifle

i think a good buff for it could be that the more enemies you kill the higher damage boost it gets or the longer you fire it the stonger it gets like maybe up to a 50% boost or maybe higher if it dosnt do enough

The mobile turret is good for being a dumb DPS boost, something you can spray and pray at enemies, especially medium class enemies where it can get them into glory kill range pretty quick. What makes it good is just how much DPS you can squeeze out in a short time with little commitment, making it a descent choice when in a pinch, or just wanting to finish off a crowd faster which can mean a lot in a hectic fight

But the energy shield does the same damage as the mobile turret and requires even less commitment because it gives you god mode... not to mention you can blood punch while using it and add 2,000 damage.

Funnily enough, I trivialized my Ultra Nightmare runs of Eternal, TAG 1 and TAG 2 without changing off of the turret mode on chaingun. It made Ultra Nightmare so easy. It IS the better of the two if used properly. But yeah, Micro Missiles are probably among the best mods in the game hands down.

I mean, it has four separate firing mechanisms when opened, so give me no damage bonus to individual round, just make it fire at 400% speed. Eats through ammo instantly, erases superheavies instantly. Suddenly its a contender to the shield.

I never knew about lightspeed Hell Knight ragdolls. And now that I've seen them, they make things so much more entertaining! One other issue with Mobile Turret that I'm certain others have mentioned (and you may have considered bringing it up yourself (considering you kinda did in the Full-Auto Shotgun episode)) is that, unlike DOOM 2016...your ammo pool isn't all that generous. Nor is there a way to give it basically infinite ammo unless you find an Overdrive powerup. And considering my thought process tends to begin and end with "keep shooting until all organic matter is fused with the wallpaper," using _Eternal's_ Mobile Turret can lead to situations where I suddenly find myself with no ammo. And the risk of that happening is what keeps me from using the mod in the first place. That said, your other points listed are also very valid reasons why this mod just seems kind of "meh." Micro Missiles do about as much damage but aren't resisted, the Plasma Rifle encourages use through Heat Blast (and leads to other combo opportunities), and the Energy Shield is busted beyond belief. Even though it's never going to get buffed, I do like the one idea you threw out about having the heated barrels ignite the ammo, allowing for you to get armor back on kills. Saves you from using your flame belch until you *really* need it, and it could even do just a tiny bit more damage than the Mobile Turret already does. Other than that, lookin' forward to the next one. -Kinda hope it's the Unmaykr.-

I use the Mobile Turret as kind of a Palate cleanser for my arsenal, mostly for any heavy/super heavy demon that isn't a Marauder, Blood Maykr, or spirit buffed demon. If I'm in the middle of combat quick-swapping the shit out enemies then suddenly a Baron, Dread Knight, etc spawns in the distance, I'm most likely going to swap to MT and deal with the problem before it causes trouble. Chaingun/Heavy Cannon ammo is the ammo-type I worry the least about as I almost always have a large supply on hand, even tho I do lean on the Heavy Cannon and its mods a fair bit. It's a great weapon for when I don't want to think and a high value target just spawned in, especially since it allows me to save shells, rockets and energy weapon ammo for whatever comes after. The stun-lock is easily the best trait it has for that reason. I am aware that shield mod exploits can decimate any and everything, but not only am I not particularly good at it, but I also just can't really fit it into my play-style in a way that feels natural. It's a weapon mod for niche but common scenarios, and has flying colors as a result when used right

The funny thing is it that none of the weapon attachments in doom eternal are bad, they just aren’t useful in every fight. The auto shotgun and the unmakyr are good against super heavies, the microwave beam is op against fast moving high health enemies like the whiplash (I used it in the encounter with the whiplash, the armoured mancubus, and the marauder), the mini rockets are good for knocking armour off enemies before you finish them off, the mid-air detonation is good for taking out multiple crowds of enemies, and the arbalest is good for taking out clusters of flying enemies.

Micro Missiles have good damage and comboability, but they do not falter and cannot break weakpoints. I remember Hugo Martin specifying that in a pre-launch interview. Mobile Turret, on the other hand, as you say later in the video, can full on stunlock enemies at long range. This alone is a great perk, especially when paired with its high damage and ease of use. I love pulling it out when I'm cornered by Barons or stressed out and don't want to do a combo, just melt a big guy or two to gain some space then go back to flying around doing combos. It's my go-to way of taking down Armored Barons. Break their mace, shred them for a few seconds, then finish them off with an SSG blast. It feels really nice. Also, using it on Marauders in double frag combos or after hammer stunning them is very funny lol.

I use the mobile turret over the shield for two reasons. One: I play casual hurt me plenty, meaning I don't have to sweat to win a fight, meaning I can get away with the mod. Two: It's just fun to mow things down with it, much more than a shield

Image if the mobile turret would deploy into a drone that stuns heavy demons and then kamikaze as its about to run out of ammo. So you could have it doing damage in the background instead.

To correct your math at the beginning of the video, the combined effect of the 20% damage increase and the 20% faster fire rate is a 44% increase to dps overall. And going from 10 secs to kill to 6.5 secs is actually faster than the 7 sec that mathematically the increase should get you.
