Dorset's Jurassic Coast - Harman's Cross Railway Station Visit

Today I visit Harman's Cross railway station. I have heard the toots from the steam trains from my B&B and have gone out to investigate.
Harman's Cross railway station is a railway station located in the village of Harman's Cross, on the Isle of Purbeck in the English county of Dorset. It is an intermediate station on the Swanage Railway, a heritage railway that currently operates from Swanage to Norden (and occasionally to Wareham ).

It’s amazing to think that there was nothing at Harmans cross before the line was preserved (the only intermediate station was at Corfe Castle). The work of the volunteers who constructed and maintain that station is a work of love. When I was a boy, I remember the trains only going as far as Harmans Cross and it didn’t have buildings then. I understand that the Swanage are running some through trains to Wareham which is on the main line this summer. (The line is connected but rarely used west of Norden at present)

What a lovely little trian station (of course I loved the colors. Green & Yellow - go Oregon Ducks!😄) I would have assumed it was an old restored building too - not new. You'll have to come back sometime & take this train trip between Swanage & Corfe Castle. An old steam train & a castle visit in one day - doesn't get much better than that!!!🚂🏰

I did enjoy that, a loverly station that is too! I have heard a lot about that railway and I really want to go there! Its always good to sea a bullied Pacific! That's the loco that was running by the way. Well done Richard Great video!

Yes, that railway runs past Corfe Castle! We visited there last year, but didn't take the railway, but heard the whistle and watched it go by. I hope to put together a video about Corfe Castle sometime! There's also a wonderful Tank Museum not far from Swanage. I spent altogether too much time in that museum. But as fascinated as I am with military matters, it was not resistable!

Looks a lovely place there Richard. I went to the Nene Valley Railway just off the A1 near Peterborough a few months ago when I was passing with work. I didn't ride on the train unfortunately but it was good to see. I learnt afterwards that Octopussy and also a Queen music video were filmed there. I still like the Churnet valley railway and Foxfield railway in Staffordshire too.

Just a follow up reply, I went to Crewe heritage centre yesterday and that's well worth a look if you're ever in the area. It's slightly different because it's not a restored line it's the old engine sheds based near Crewe railway station. Lots to see and do

Oh yes,lamp standards,milk churns,advertising hoardings and old posters(all authentic)not to mention the pigeons in a hamper! I wants me pigs! Not only do you know your oh mr Porter,but the Titfield Thunderbolt as well,best seen along with Genevieve if you want to know what the roads and rail used to be like!!

Heritage railways like the Swanage at Harman's cross use colour coded timetables to differentiate between seasonal service levels so based on your visit the blue table was a spring season Table probably

Interesting fact - at 8:52, when you are looking at the signs. The railway used to be owned by the London and south western railway (L&SWR), but after world war one all the railway companies in the south became one, Southern Railway (SR). You will notice the sign said (L&SWR) but had been painted over so it only said (SR). That is a proper bit of money saving there. Why get a new sign when you can edit the old one 😂
