RIP the GT-R. I had an R33 in London, and then I came to the US and I got a 2009 R35 and it was amazing (despite really being a Fairlady, not a Skyline - but that's OK). I traded it up for a 2015 R35 because they finally made the suspension comfortable, and I still have it today. It is still far far far more car than you could ever need on the public road, 100% reliable, comfortable, extremely practical daily driver, and a fantastic long-distance cruiser. Nissan lost money with every one they sold, and it never enhanced their brand and sold the cheaper stuff. I understand why it's over, but it's still sad. No you can't have mine.

The original Volkswagen Beetle sold from 1938 to 2003. And sold 21.5 million cars. Why is making the same car with only 2 or so updates a bad thing ? It breeds reliability. Look at the G Wagon from 1979 to today and looks still very similar from its launch. The Mazda Miata has really been a very similar formula and looks also very much just the same way and similar light weight since its launch in 1989. And people love that. The Porsche 911 looks very similar also since its birth in 1963 to today. And is a cult car. 17 years is nothing.

"How do you justify buying a new Cayenne?" - dude, if most people were thinking like this, few people would be buying new cars, the industry would shrink, new cars would cost significantly more (due to economies of scale), old cars would shoot up in value by the same multiplier as new ones, and you'd be asking "how do you justify buying any interesting car?". In other words, it's thanks to people buying new cars that not only we, enthusiasts, but even just regular people have access to many good 2nd hand cars at reasonable prices.
