Dr Gundry seems to have discovered that writing books, having a website and selling supplements is much more lucrative than being a heart surgeon. Correlation, risk indicators, etc., are not substitutes for evidence, hard facts, and proven cause and effects. Thanks for posting

Dr. Gundry is, in my mind, primarily a salesman. He makes money by endorsing products. I don't think of him as a Doctor. Whatever he supports, you better believe that there's a profit component in there as well! I'm NOT against profit, I'm against false pretenses under the guise of expertise to dupe others into believing that you are administering balanced advice based upon science rather than commerce. Thank you for your wisdom and insights. There is no single diet plan that benefits us all equally. Beware of anybody or institution that claims otherwise! Cheers!

About 25 years ago I had recently changed jobs and as is SOP in the USA, I necessarily had to change insurance provider and therefore my primary care Dr. My first appointment was first thing on a Saturday morning. The Friday night before I had bought myself a Christmas present on my way home from work. It was a surround sound system and I was up all night setting it up and I finished the better part of a case of full carb beer in the process. The next morning my new Dr. asked me if I had had breakfast? No. I did not understand the fasting blood issue and he had the on site lab draw my blood. A few days later I began getting these urgent calls from him wanting to speak to me ASAP. My triglycerides were over 1100.

So what type of salesman is Dr. Westman? He wants money too!
@EvanEdwards
@EvanEdwards 8 ай бұрын
@@itsmelaura1533 He's a doctor who runs a specialized diet clinic for Duke University and treats illnesses (like epilepsy) and obesity with dietary changes. He's written some books and has some courses run in his name, for sure. But he also tends to aggressively give away all the information and tell you to go to the grocery store instead of any kind of special "silver bullet" food that he sells or lobbies for. I doubt that grocery stores are paying him to be a generalized spokesperson for "eat where ever you want." He's ranged from suggesting leafy greens to pointing out a successful patient that ate primarily McDonalds (although he did not suggest it). I didn't get an impression that Dr. Gundry is a strong salesmen either, other than pitching his book without explaining what conclusions are in the book. There are, however, other examples of people who pitch similar ideas and then close the video with a subscription service you can only get from them with "trusted grass fed beef." Or some kind of dietary supplement that will make the pounds vanish. Or who cherry pick phrases from papers to argue for a particular diet based on their own personal ethics rather than evidence (and Westman often says that there are many different effective diets, and you should choose whatever fits your needs). I believe those are the types of people that commenters are referring to as "salespeople."

Feedlot cattle are fed a mixture of corn silage, ground corn and alfalfa(grass). All cattle are born on pastures with the cows eating grass every day except for winter when they are fed hay. Supplement food for cattle is always hay and vitamin lick blocks. These calves that grow up living on grass and eating grass until they are about a year old then go to the feedlot where they are again fed a combination of silage, corn and hay. Their diet always includes grass in the form of hay! All cattle are grass fed!

Actually production beef is fed silage and corn. Production beef seldom free range and eat grass. This totally explains the bland flavor of beef bought at wal mart in the standard beef section. Switch to grass fed or even wagyu beef and you realize the lack of flavor in corn fed beef. Also the omega ratio of grass fed beef is way better.
@Babs42
@Babs42 8 ай бұрын
It all depends on the beef. I’ve noticed that some grain finished meat still has more beige fat to it, but grass fed funk is delicious. I do like the higher fat content of conventional beef though. Eventually get the craving for some good grass finished beef.

Funnily enough, even fully corn fed beef tends to have 9:1 ratio, or better, between omega-6 and 3, while extra virgin olive oil has a 10:1 ratio, ie. more of those "bad" omega-6s that Gundry fears. Not to mention, you can fix that ratio with a single fatty fish fillet per week if you worry about it

Since most corn grown and fed to cows and people is GMO which probably also is laced with glyphosate. There is reason why I always go with grass fed, grass finished myself. I think that we all should avoid corn and corn byproducts.

while I agree there is no studies indicating that glysophate makes it into the meat at all. It is converted to oxalate in the process and would damage the bacteria in the gut but overall the cows seem to not store it in the meat at all.

Do you have any idea what's sprayed on grass pastures to control weed that cows don't, or shouldn't eat? Look into MSM and 2-4D amongst others. The media has made glyphos a kitchen name, but don't think your getting away from agricultural chemicals because the media has once again hoodoo you! @@YeshuaKingMessiah The fat has about as much to do with the animals genetics as how they are fed. It's amazing to see people reject steak for having too much fat! Farmers supply what the consumer is buying, and the vast majority still want the leanest meat possible, so animal breeds have gone down in fat. On top of that the butchers trim everything very tight leaving only a few millimeters of fat. The lean cuts lead to me eating a lot of butter!

Dr. Gundry holds a special place in my heart because it was his book "Diet Evolution" which first introduced me to the concept of ancestrally appropriate eating. That book starts people off with a meat heavy keto plan (which worked great) but then the later phases are less and less meat until you are eating mountains of salad with a couple of shrimp on top. No surprise, it stopped working at that point. Then he went off on his lectin kick which was good because most people didn't know what a lectin was. He totally ignored all the other anti-nutrients and irritants in plant foods in the process though. He really strikes me now as an internet scam artist. He is also a product of the Church of Loma Linda which is controlled by the 7th Day Adventists. Quote from Peter Ballerstat : The problem is not grain fed beef, the problem is grain fed people. I think there probably is a difference between grass finished and grain finished but I see this as a marginal thing. It's an optimization tweak you can make if you can afford it and have access to grass finished. It shouldn't be a barrier for anyone getting started on keto or carnivore. A grain fed steak is still way better for you than a pizza and sodas.

I mostly eat chuck steak, because it's cheaper. Ribeye isn't my favorite, amazingly. My favorite is New York Strip, but it also costs a lot more than chuck. I just get regular grocery store meat, but it is cut in the store (which is rare these days as most stores - including Walmart - get their meat already processed, packaged, and priced) and it's really good. They also sell grass fed (not sure if it's grass finished) hamburger, which is reasonably priced and I get it from time to time.

You are 100% correct in your analysis! The average person on a tight budget with a large family can get really discouraged watching videos with doctors "talking down" on those who buy meat that is not grass fed. Dr Berg recently did a video on buying eggs from the grocery store, grain fed chickens vs pasture raised chickens. Yeah, there's definitely a difference in the appearance between the two but how about providing some chemical analysis of the two kinds of eggs. Are pasture eggs bought from the store really that much better ? How much better? We know they are like 4 or 5 times more expensive but are regular grain fed chicken eggs going to be detrimental or dangerous to a persons health when you consider all the other crap out there that people eat? People on a tight budget will get discouraged watching some of these health experts talk about eating low carb if it means breaking the bank!
