Ff11 was my first mmo. I got randomly assigned to a jpn/aus server. You could only solo mobs till around level 10, beyond that, every single mob that was your level or higher(required for xp) required a group to fight. At 15, you have to get a drop from a bogy in a cave, who was about 3 levels higher than you. The mob was a slow spawn, and slow drop rate deal. I had to spend a week worth of days trying to get a group for it. After a week of ZERO drops, I finally talked a high level Japanese player to help me. And that unlocked the ability to have a subjob. But, you had to unlock and level those jobs too. It was such a steep STEEP learning curve of a game.

My mom played FF11 with me back in the day, She soloed to 75 on multiple jobs killing easy prey monsters. It could take her multiple days to gain 1 level and later it could even take up to a week but she did it, She killed easy monsters all the way to max level. She couldn't beat Maat to get past the level 70 level cap and I couldn't beat him with the jobs she had at level 70 either which was Black Mage and Monk. I kid you not she unlocked Paladin and soloed it to 70 so that I could beat Maat for her because Paladin was the easiest job to beat him on and it was the job I mainly played which I gladly did for her and she was very happy. This was before the exp books, Way before trust NPC's. No help, she killed mobs that gave her 30 to 60 exp until she hit 75. She also maxed out fishing, Got lu shangs fishing rod by fishing 10000 moat carp herself without buying the moat carp she literally caught 10000 of them by herself and was rich with over 10 million gil from all the fish, crystals and random crap she would sell. It may have taken her months to do what others did in weeks but she enjoyed the game and she still grinds and solos on FF11 private servers to this day just like she's always done and she's still making tons of gil.

So the reason for the random server assignment and high difficulty of combat was that they wanted to have that final fantasy trope of total strangers coming together to save the world. On top of that they wanted to encourage team play, so you really needed a group to do anything significant. Its a pretty cool idea in theory, but it just doesn’t work in a practical sense.

@InariusPrime2 жыл бұрын
FFXI was my first MMO. Started on Midgardsormr, made a few friends, and then they jumped ship to another server, which they wanted me to join them there, so I spent the time literally remaking my character over and over and over until i got it, Valefor! 1-30, you were locked into playing, and since you play ffxiv ill use the abbreviations, WAR,MNK,RDM,BLM,WHM, and THF (thief). Level 18 you could unlock a subjob, which you would have to level completely seperately from your main and it would always be half your level. Post level 30, you could unlock DRG,SMN,PLD,BRD,RNG(ranger), DRK, BST (beastmaster), and SAM. ANYWAY I was a Tarutaru(Lalafel equiv) SMN, which meant I had the biggest MP pool in the game and the only MP regen baked into the job natively. When leveling, a SMN tended to always be a healer in content. Hardly ever actually summoning, just sub white mage and get to healing. So I would have to stop leveling SMN, switch to WHM and level it. Had to get it to level 37 for the max level of a subjob. ANYWAY, there was one time i went into a party, going to go to Bibiki bay to grind exp, I would have been about level 72 at this time. So the party first started kinda good. Was getting about 200-300 exp every 45 sec-1 minute. Then out tank had to go, but luckily the party leader was able to get a new one pretty quick. A NINJA! Got him out there and started. Keep in mind my heals are not near as potent as a WHM main, and i only have access to up to cure III. Ninja in FFXI would "blink tank" meaning they would cast a spell and put up 3 shadows of themselves and not take damage until those 3 shadows got consumed. At level 72, he would have also have had the second version of that spell way earlier, being able to cast the 1 or 2 when the other was on cooldown. Usually when I got a NIN tank i could also summon and DPS to make the fight go quicker and I thought this grind fest was going to be a lot of fun. So we started, and i noticed he was tanking massive damage. Nobody else seemed to notice, they werent healing of buffing, so why would they? So he died a few times, and I was yelled at by the party for not keeping him up, spending too much time on my summons. I noticed that the only time he didnt take damage would be when I would summon Garuda and give everyone an AoE blink or when I would summon Titan and give everyone AoE stoneskin. He died a few times. I started to point out that I didnt think the ninja was casting Utsusemi at all. He said "Of course i am!" and I was kinda asked to shut up about it, quit summoning, and heal. So i did just that. Even with me focusing on healing him, he would die still. I would go practially OOM after each pull and would have to sit and rest to get my mp back. I was berated for not bringing juices and other food items (i did bring my ginger cooking which gave me mp5 when resting). The party members started to get really agitated with me. I once again tried to point out that the ninja was not casting the right spell. He was casting elemental ninjutsu but not Utsu. He of course said that he was. This kept up and i died myself a few times by overhealing and cranking out heals using divine seal (doubled the potency of the heal), thank goodness for casting Reraise on myself. The party leader got fed up with my lack of healing capabilities (completely ignoring that with the first tank, we didnt have a problem at all), and kicked me from the group. Bummed out, I went near another camping area, tossed up my flag for party invites, and watched how things went down. The new healer for the party got out to them, and it lasted about 4 pulls before the WHM casts warp (subbed BLM) and left while the NIN 2-houred (killed himself but doesnt lose exp). I received a tell from the previous party leader asking me to come back and apologizing for not listening to me when I said the NIN wasnt buffing himself. It was nice about that same time I got an tell and invite from a JP group who was heading to Bibiki and wanted to know if I would like to DD/buff since they had a RDM to heal. I responded in roomaji saying yes, and told them I was already sitting in a good camp, that I was American, so if that was ok . Straight up ignored previous party leader. The day was saved, got all that EXP back and then some. Mini ending note, most of the time if you weren't Japanese, JP players would ignore or say "JP ONLY". Except me. I was known somewhat on my server for getting my friends and myself into JP ONLY groups. Who could resist my adorable Tarutaru with emoticons with my messages. Honestly, I wish I knew of a way to contact some of my old friends and crossing my fingers that the 20th anniversary might lead to that reconnection some how. I mean I still talk to two brothers from Las Vegas who I met in FFXI at the age of 13, who I drug to WoW in 2007, and then to FFXIV when it was still in 1.0 and still play games with to this day but there are some friends from California (Hitomaro) and Hawaii (Jounouchi - he was a huge YugiOh nerd) that I miss and randomly think about. Like use to buy phone cards with our allowance so we could call and talk while playing FFXI or shoot the shit. Anyway! Thats it!

My favorite part of the ff11 story is that it dropped again 2 weeks later. Which means 2 things: 1. He RUINED that guy for something he got 2 weeks later anyway (max level pettiness) 2. If he was just NOT an asshole he would have also gotten the chest piece and he could have continued playing with the guild. Crime never pays kids.

Happy Birthday :) Hair's looking good! 1:01:40 --- I wouldnt say that Lightups was "ruined" after that. He could have created a new character, right? Sure, he would lose everything and would have to start from scratch, but honestly... yeah, thats what you get from cheating. And its nice to see a game where cheaters dont get away with it. Was it worth it? Well, to work for something for a year with your group of what? 40 players?, then yes, its more than just pixels in an online game. If it truely was of no importance than Lightups wouldn't have cheated in the first place, knowing that his new guild wouldnt like that and that he would get kicked... He took that risc, though, and has to live with the consequences. My first MMO was Guild Wars 1 ... and loot was randomized, so there was no drama. Every once in a while some rare weapon would drop (never armor: armor was purchased for special mats and platinum aka gold at a crafter-NPC) but unless you used it yourself (except the Greens) you could trade and upgrade stuff at your hearts content.

Here's kind of a silly story for you: I've been playing FF14 for several months now. Immediately after taking my first job to level 80 I started to get FC invites (I am a VERY introverted person by nature and distrustful of others by nurture) and I wasn't interested in joining an FC so I would just decline the invites. Well as I kept playing and leveling more jobs up to 80 I started to get more and more invites every time I played to the point where I couldn't play for more than an hour without getting an invite. So I started writing comments in my search page like "not interested in FC's" or "FC invites auto rejected without DM", just trying to come up with ways to stop the invites, nothing polite worked. I decided if being polite won't stop them then telling everyone to "shove their comments and invites" might work, nope it still didn't completely discourage people. Exasperated I decide to give up on trying to head off the invites and decide I'll just have to deal with them and the DM's. So as a pre-invite warning to the recruiters I put in the search box "Introvert", just that one single word, and decided if anyone wants to DM or invite me they atleast have a warning that they will most likely get rejected. Since that day I have not recieved even a single FC invite, and I love it. The FF community is great, accepting and mostly not toxic, but they can be overly nice in trying to invite everyone without regards to how they might feel or want to play. There were many times I would recieve an invite from the same person multiple times and sometimes even multiple times a day. Maybe one day I'll join an FC but until then I'm fine playing solo.
@Ohan2 жыл бұрын
The best way to stop getting guild/FC invites is to join one. Find one that doesn't care if you socialize. Better yet, make your own with only you and few others in it.

@Joe-it2dh2 жыл бұрын
@@BransonGood did you not read my comment? I'm an INTROVERT meaning I dont like dealing with other people on a social level. Also I'm VERY distrustful of others both of which culminate in me not being the biggest fan of other people. Should I not be allowed to enjoy MMO's because of how I was born? I occasionally recieve DM's because I use party finder and sell some stuff through shout chat, so I can't set myself to busy. If you dont know what an introvert is look it up. You probably know one.
@Joe-it2dh2 жыл бұрын
I joined an FC for a total of 3 days, the login notifications, the constant pings in FC chat, the DM's, ..... I just couldn't do it for very long. If I were to consider making one the first rule would be "Messages in FC chat are an insta ban". Its not that I hate people, because I genuinely don't hate anyone, I just can't stand being around other people for extended periods of time and I never trust anyone.

Yeah, thats the FFXI I remember. I remember slaying sheep on a hill, just to get a rare one to spawn which drops the rare/ex sam G katana. I spent 8hrs killing...waiting...killing...waiting, for nothing. I also once accidently rolled on the Joyeus, a rapier type weapon that had a chance to strike 1-3 times per auto attack. I had to take a picture of me deleting it from my inventory, and a picture of the chat log saying I deleted it (which I did). You would lose approx 10% xp apon death. An depending on which raise you got ( 1 2 or 3) would determine how much xp you lost. If you were max level of 75, you would only accept a raise 3, hardly a raise 2, and never a raise 1. I played a warrior/ninja (yeah, I never tanked because ninja tools were expensive an I played how I wanted...and still do regardless of what the community says is best). Dual weilding Woodsville and Maneater, hot swapping out gear before I used my TP wpn skill. Now the bad part about dual weilding is....you feed the mob TP, so as a dps it was decent, just a steady stream of damage like a DoT. Gear in that game...some would be lvl75 and still be wearing like lvl50 starter job gear. Gear was so hard to come by..its what you had to do. Making money was a chore, like a second job. Questing never awarded you xp or money. Instead it awarded reputation that you could never see. You had to talk to certain NPCs an depending on how they talked to you...would let you know how much rep you have.

Some world bosses took months if your guild was bad, like Absolute Virtue and Pandemonium Warden. But bosses like Kirin you could get a bunch of pop sets pretty quick. Kirin in particular you usually had like, 20 full sets, minus Ulli's stone you needed for Byakko needed for his seal. That would be the bottleneck. Ulli spawned 2 to 3 times a day, and there were always multiple groups camping him. But every time you claimed Ulli that's basically another Kirin.

29:00 Not defending the idea, but the 'why' was to prevent server congestion from everyone going to the same server. Having been in the beta as well as playing it live through first expac, guilds came from other games and congested popular servers, and they were trying to prevent that as much as they could. And that was their 'solution'. It was a poor one to say the least.

I was in 2 Guilds in Classic that had Class Officers to classes with alot of players. In my case where I was Rogue, in the first Guild we had a Class Officer, but it was more of a figurehead or spokeperson for the rest of us, we simply decided the order of the loot by Paper Scisors ( Professional, I know ) and that was it. In my second Guild we were to few and new to be have a Rogue Officer, so It was whatever. So I find kinda normal to have a Class Officer in these big guilds for management, but to be honest, I do find weird the amount of power or influence these people seem to have in these stories.

@@mrjack901 the guild I was in we were the top guild of the server so no you don't need a officer for classes just need to know the people you play with and a few to help manage it.
