I grew up on Twinkies and fast food in the 60s; On my own, late teens, SF, I lived on LSD, Wonder Bread, margarine and grape jelly sandwiches and occasional dandelions picked out of peoples' yards. In my 30s after college, with a bit of an income, I started exploring cooking and enjoyed a bunch of high carb Mexican food in the 80s. Yummy! Then came the yoyo dieting through the 90s to 2015. But I didn't really know about any of THIS until I was 65. I had a lot of advanced Biochemistry classes but nobody at Temple Medical School had real nutrition classes back in those days. It's a miracle that at 70 I'm still alive! My biggest fear is Diabetes type III (dementia.) My poor mom, after a lifetime on the Standard American Diet (SAD), lost her last 30 years to insulin resistance, pre-diabetes, full-blown dementia, always on statins and blood pressure meds and experimental Alzheimer drugs, dying finally at age 74 of a AAA, after 10 years of forgetfulness. I just hope it's not too late for me. So far...6 months now, 40 pounds lighter (20 to go), so good. Fingers crossed and coming alive again slowly but surely. I only wished I had known all this at age 30! I could have saved my mother's life!

@@satanshamamotra1652 Hi, the only exercise I did/do is 30 minutes walking every day. I can only give you an example of what I eat. For breakfast, I'll have a two egg omelette with melted cheese on top. I also have 6 rashers of bacon with that. It's very filling. Sometimes I'll make my own Keto muffins using almond flour, egg and melted butter. Once again, I melt cheese on top of these. For dinner, I'll have a flatbread - which I male myself from coconut and almond flour, with 'meat' and broccoli or sprouts. All of the recipes were derived from KZbin videos. I only eat two meals and have done since August 2020. When I was eating three meals, I would normally do something of a snack, involving cheese, avocado and or bacon. Oh, peanut butter too. Basically, I kept the fat high, so that I never got hungry - I never do get hungry to this day. Hope this helps.

Thanks Dr Ekberg. OMAD works. I have lost almost 20 pounds in a month. No exercise. I actually feel like exercising for the first time in decades. My gut feels great. No more bloating and gas. Some days I weigh less at night than in the morning. I didn't do keto but minimize my carbs to less than 20% of my meals. 10 more pounds I'll hit my target weight from 30 years ago. It's now time to tone some muscle. I went years eating at least 4-5k calories a day and should have been 600 pounds and diabetic. Fortunately I was blessed with something that it never got that bad.

Have been doing OMAD for almost two years. Love it. Simplification of life is great. Don't worry about not eating enough calories. Very easy to eat 2k+ calories per meal... look at a label on things like cheesecake. One thing that is incorrect, is the bullet proof coffee recommendation. Adding MCT's and butter to coffee and drinking it during your 'fasting' time is not fasting. You want to eat ZERO calories when you are fasting. That is the whole point. Another thing that is missing is the fact that you become insulin sensitive. What winds up happening is that your ability to absorb nutrients becomes enhanced. I think quite significantly. Consider the typical pre-diabetic person (so many here in America, basically an epidemic): they have body fat on their bodies, technically they should be very energetic..they have all that stored energy hanging on them! But they are not. They are tired, exhausted, and ravenously hungry. Why? Because insulin resistance develops a strange 'catch 22' in the body: the cells have become resistant to insulin (from eating too often/too much), so they cannot absorb nutrients (insulin tells the cells to open up and receive nutrients) AND the body is then taking all those unused nutrients and calories and storing them as FAT (the other property of insulin is fat storage). So the insulin-resistant person is fat and exhausted and their cells are screaming for more nutrients! A person in this situation is then considered 'pre-diabetic' ...if they continue, then the pancreas breaks down and they become fully diabetic. ....so what does the allopathic doctor do to treat this essentially severely insulin-resistant person, who is now fully diabetic?? MORE INSULIN!! Wtf??? That is like saying person a is an alcoholic, .....SO LET'S TREAT HIM BY GIVING HIM MORE ALCOHOL!! What is the point of fasting, whether intermittent, or long term? I think the main thing is to become more insulin sensitive. consider this: I only eat once a day by taking food in my mouth (and then triggering insulin to be released so my cells can take in nutrients...any excess energy is stored as fat). However, during the day...my body is still eating. It is eating the stored fat that the lowering of insulin in my blood finally allows my body to access the stored fat! Another thing that is happening is the resting of the pancreas. A tiny organ that pumps out insulin when we eat. ... anything. Even if you eat low-glycemic foods like butter, you still trigger insulin to be released. When we are eating and for the digestion for some time thereafter, the pancreas is in charge of insulin. During the fasted part of your day, it is the liver that is controlling blood sugar levels with a growth-hormone-like factor called IGF (insulin-like growth factor). Next time you are in an doctor's office, or some where where they display sizes of organs on charts, take a look at the liver versus the pancreas. The liver is huge. It can weigh up to 3.3 pounds in a grown man (the pancreas weighs in up to 0.2lbs). If up to 90% of the liver is removed... it will still regenerate. The pancreas, relatively, is much smaller, if compromised, its on its death legs and it does not regenerate like the liver does (once gone, you are now diabetic for the rest of your life). So what organ would you rather have control your blood sugar for most of the day...or your life?? I would prefer it was that big liver that can regenerate.

I'm feeling 3x more satiated with supplementation. I'm assuming that my body is finally getting the nutrients it needs and has turned off the hunger switch. This is why people are eating and snacking 10x a day, they're not getting their nutrients from the depleted "foods."

I'm down from 204.6 to 180.6. My energy is up, pain and stiffness gone, I'm sleeping better and my clothes fit comfortably - I was at the point of either losing weight or buying an entirely new and larger wardrobe. Now I plan on doing Keto on a 4/20 hour split for 90 days to get rid of the last of my belly and return to all the strenuous yard work I did 5 years ago, managing our 16 acres, that became near impossible. 20 pounds to go - 54 is starting to feel good!

Finally something that works. I've tried all sorts of diets and work out routines over the years, but either it didn't work or was it was hard to maintain for whatever reason. This is the only thing that has worked this far. I wasn't looking to lose a lot of weight but just general toning and thin my waist, face and such. I went from 150 to 135 in about 1 month and a half and have been easily able to maintain that. I eat a large brunch around 2pm consisting of ground pork, shallots, mushrooms, broccoli, garlic, tomatoes and green chilis. I often season it with smoked paprika, thyme, sage, rosemary, chili powder and salt & pepper. I brown the sausage first with some olive oil, add the rest to the pan on medium, adding some butter (if needed) until everything is cooked. When finished, I like to add some full fat plain Greek yogurt (like Chobani) or sour cream to it. Now that I've reached my desired weight I'm more comfortable with relaxing on snacks, so an English muffin here and there in the evening is okay where it wasn't before. Carbs aren't generally part of my diet though and I limit my intake. The first couple days were hard to get used to but it is way easier after that. e: Thank you! :-)

I just started my OMAD after a five day fast. I have alcoholic fatty liver from liking beer too much and I am 63 years old now. I quit the beer from an on and off thing to totally quitting it a few months ago. I have a belly like a small pumpkin. I know that canned food is not the best but I live in Thailand now for the past twenty years and moved here from Boulder, CO and they don't have a lot of organic shops in Nakhon Sawan. Boulder had so many giant supermarkets of health food and that was only organic but not here. I would like to lose twenty pounds but like you say there is no real quick way so I certainly will take the slow healthy path. I started doing OMAD 3/10/23. Today 3/23/23 I've completed 14 days. Starting weight was 232lbs. Today I am 218.8lbs. I haven't seen that number on the scale in a few years. I am 5'10, 34yo male. I eat late evening like 6pm-9pm, somewhere in that time frame. I focus on eating a lot of protein. However, it was my wife's birthday on the 16th and we went to a Chinese buffet, went home and pigged out on cake and ice cream. A few days after that, I came home from work and I ate 6 homemade chocolate chip cookies(wife has a side hustle) and a high protein sandwich, woke up the next day 2lbs lighter. I do not count calories or macros, not until I start to plateau. Why bother if the weight is going down? I also strength train 1-2 times a week. and will do a walk/light elliptical afterwards, that's it. I feel super strong working out fasted and I can now wait hours after before I eat. Hungry is no longer an issue for me. Took me 5-6 days for the hunger pains to stop. My goal weight is to get down to the 170's. I have a tip for anyone who wants to try OMAD, when you feel like you're starving, drink a diet soda and water. The carbonation would make me feel full and I could power on until my one meal. Hard to believe that tomorrow I will have completed 15 days..The first 5 days is like time slooows..Now its just going by fast. Hopefully its just smooth sailing for here on out. I will update later on.

Meals are done, don't have to think about cooking etc for the rest of the day. I normally prepare several types of meat and have options in the fridge.

I lost 45 pounds on OMAD in one year. I ate whatever I wanted within 1 hour and always had a dessert. I cheated when I went on vacation (two 1 week vacation) and ate everything on site. I would gain around 6 to 8 pounds each time I went on vacation but would lose weight pretty quickly... I would say one or two weeks going back on OMAD.

Thank you Senator Joe McCarthy for sharing your story. That is great. I am so happy you have noticed a positive change. Keep it up! Just remember it is about health.

People say that you can’t eat what you want on omad if you want to lose weight but I guess I’ll have to find out myself

How did u control your hunger pangs?
@Sen_Mccarthy4 жыл бұрын
The Tree The hunger was extreme for the first couple of months where I would have all the food prepared ready to eat right away when it was time to eat and I would gorge until full but eventually your body gets used to eating one meal a day and barely get hungry. Also... I noticed that when I am full now while eating I have more will power to stop eating. I think omad gave me more power over food. Since it is easy now to do Omad for me that I have decided to make this my life choice now and only cheating when going on a vacation.

You can be free eventually... yes. After doing Omad for over two years now I have noticed that I can’t no longer eat the same portion I used to eat in the past. Your appetite does shrink (at least for me). There was a period of time where my weight loss stalled so I experimented with vitamins and cutting sugar and that helped me to keep losing weight. I started this journey when I was 255 pounds. Now I am around 190 to 195. My goal is to be around 185 and maintain it.

The problem for me is my carbs😩 it's my source of energy and Smile😊 I do 20/4 fasting Omad. I have a piece of bread or banana cake everyday just to make myself happy.

I had an idea that I was under stress but I had no idea how much until March of 2019. By late October of 2020 I was in terrible stress. I had an epiphany & left most things behind & moved to be near my daughter in Ypsilanti Mi. Stress went way down. I kept eating the same foods & meds. Was prescribed more meds. Then I saw your posts. You made sense. I began to follow your food & fasting regime about 9d ago. I also paused all ills of any kind. This morning my B/P was 116/93. I was so surprised I wanted to tell you what happened.

How long does it take to get rid of insulin resistance? I started doing OMAD and 36 hours fasting and absolutely in love with this approach. As many of us, I tried it all… dieting, caloric restriction, gym 2 times a day, yoga , walking … you name it.. 😮but with little success … I am on OmAD and periodically 36 hours now.. and it feels weight goes down effortlessly!! Thank you for all educational videos you are posting and helping so many of us to overcome all this myths of “constant eating “ to stay healthy!

I’m trying to introduce Keto, IF, OMAD TO MY FRIENDS IN Tanzania. Their staple food is white rice and beans . They use fructose as a sweetener or even as a energy booster . Porters to Mt, Kilimanjaro who work so hard carrying heavy loads of luggage for their clients eat fructose and white rice, white toast, etc.... They have no nutritional knowledge. Don’t know what carbohydrates is . My close friend is diabetic. I’m trying to help her. She has no glucometer and her cooking although tasty looking would probably kill me . They grow bananas so many meals have bananas 🍌 I listened to Jason Fung who explained that high glucose leads to fatty liver and fatty liver to diabetes. I have some fatty liver myself even though I don’t drink alcohol, don’t eat bread pastas cookies potatoes corn rice etc. I stumbled upon another video that’s saying eating eggs without some sort of Fibre would cause a fatty liver , so now I have tomatoes 🍅 spinach with my eggs . I’m just a week on IF and noticed that I’m dealing with the hunger feeling much better than at the beginning. I get a headache but that is a Keto flu so I expected that and understand that it shall pass . Looking forward to lose 50 lbs this year. I need to incorporate some exercises. Time is an issue , but I think it is doable when I get my discipline in order .wish me luck. I’ve got this !🤜🏻🤛🏾

But are they overweight? Seems like they are burning off those simple carbs. They just need some more protein.
@ph0ib0s15 жыл бұрын
You can eat those carbs and still fight diabetes! Watch Dr. Mc Dougall, "The starch solution", you have to become vegetarian and avoid all fats. I found the Keto and fasting much easier, but it works only if you have access to healthy fats. The hunger and cravings go away. You will notice that you will be less tired and more motivated, because those are the negative effects of diabetes. It's not all about discipline, if you do it right, it becomes very easy on Keto. Sadly, the best healthy fats are expensive and my be difficult to get in Tanzania. First choice, organic red palm oil, olive oil, organic coconut fat and grass feed butter or gee. Maybe Dr. Mc Dougall approach will be easier for you.... Good luck and fast recovery.

@Lucy Mwangi depends what carbs, potatoes, pasta, bread cause HUGE spikes in my blood sugar, although not diabetic. Those same carbs cause a LOT of inflammation, and affects my pain threshold, making walking difficult.
