Absolutely love this movie, I wish todays films had an ounce of the fun the 80's action flicks had. The guy who plays the chief baddies main henchman here, the one Dalton rips the throat out of, is in real life Marshall Teague who, among other things, played a sword wielding Narn in the tv show Babylon 5 and the pilot of one of the shuttles in Armageddon with Bruce Willis. I got to meet him twice as security at sci-fi cons and I got to say, for a guy who played this character so evil he is one of the nicest guys alive. Ex-Navy SEAL, ex-sheriff and a guy who knows a dozen ways to kill you with his pinkie finger and yet remembers your name after meeting you once a year ago :)

I am shocked, shocked, that the Drinker made it through the review without comparing the Double Deuce at the start of the movie to Glasgow. Fun legendary detail is that when Kelly Lynch was in Charlies Angels with Bill Murray several years later he'd never at that point seen Road House, but they became fast friends, so he decided to watch it. Ever since that day when ever Bill Murray finds the movie anywhere on TV he calls her husband and tells him that she's getting banged up against a wall by Patrick Swayze.

That said, I enjoyed most of it, but I thought it had two main flaws: 1. Reacher himself was far too good at everything, I felt like he needed a flaw or weakness to overcome and grow. 2. The tone of the show kinda bounced back and forth between hyper-violent murder mystery and goofy buddy-cop. I'm exaggerating, but it was just a bit jarring to go from brutal crucifixion murder scene to wise-cracking support characters in the next scene. What did y'all expect, it was directed by a guy named Rowdy Herrington. I worked as a bouncer in a large dance club in Raleigh when that movie came out, can't tell ya how many guys started calling themselves "Coolers" after that. Great fun movie that they don't make anymore, even the sequel was a little dark.

I love the bit when he tells his mentor, Sam Elliot, to have one drink. Comes back around an hour later and thinks he's had that many pints he crawled onto the bar and fell asleep.

My oldest son (born in 1990) was named Dalton because of the Dalton character in this movie. Yeah I know but I was 24 and thought it was unique and cool. Over thirty years later and it still is.

The car, Drinker, you forgot to mention the Buick Riviera with the flip open headlights. How could you forget that? Very fun movie, for sure.

All hail Roadhouse fight-choreographer Terry "the Funker" Funk. Also gave us the street fight in Rocky 5, Paradise Alley and a bunch of others. Terry as "middle aged and crazy", but sure knows how to do a fight scene...

You drag up some really old chestnuts, Drinker. Loved how he always had to bring 4 tires to new jobs. Guess you only get all 4 tires slashed once before that’s your thing. Great movie. They tried to recapture this with a few other movies, but you just can’t beat Patrick Swayze. The fact that you brought this up makes me want to go see if you’ve reviewed American Graffiti. Not the same vein, but definitely an old chestnut.

I've watched a few of your videos in the past, but didn't really understand what you were doing. Now, having seen a recent interview you did about what's wrong with modern films, I get it; I'll be coming here as one of my main sources of recommendations and reviews. I totally agree with your assessment of 1980's action movies; I like to think of them as 'bombastic', extravagant, razzmatazz-ish, outrageous, and that's the main attraction, the over-the-top-ness pulls me into complete escapism; and that's often what I want out of a movie.

Great film. Apart from the action, fights, and, ahem, other stuff, Jeff Healey is up there with my favourite guitarists.
