I test drove this car and liked it so much that I bought it. I purchased the XSE version in blue flame, and absolutely love it. Whoever thought I would say that about a Carolla, but it’s nimble, quick, pretty quiet and has a comfortable ride. My kids say there’s plenty of room for them in the back seat, so that’s a non-issue for me. I have not one complaint. It’s a joy to drive.

The new camera is quite nice! I have read about Toyota's new CVT, the logic seems sound however I think automakers could make conventional CVTs better without any gears. The new sportier version of the Corolla is a step in the right direction....who says economy cars have to be boring? I can't agree more it is way more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow. Don't beat yourself up too much over the auto brake system kicking in. Thanks for mentioning Hyundai in the same breath as the Corolla. Hyundai always falls at the bottom of the list of competitors with these sorts of cars, which I’ve found peculiar lately given their utter undeniable competence on the road. I can’t imagine being happier with a car than I am with my Elantra.
@pdlynch43305 жыл бұрын
My every day car is a 2011 Elantra GLS and it's as solid as they come: starts even in the coldest -35C weather (Canada), warms up quickly, reliable, comfortable, fully loaded, and it seems built to last. My only complaint is the the suspension is a bouncy which can lead to white knuckle moments on snow and ice. The new Corolla hatchback is a sweet little car (minus that big thing hanging off the hatch) and I'm sure will be solid for the long run. I think I would really like a firm ride that it offers.
@jdm10395 жыл бұрын
A lot of people buy strictly based on nameplate without ever considering or investigating the competition and in some cases the actual Toyota or Honda they are buying. They are only following the herd. If they did open their minds companies like Toyota and Honda would have a few less sales. They are great cars but so are most other cars now days.
@wilmotown5 жыл бұрын
Jeff M Agree. Kia and Hyundai are coming correct in every single segment, but don’t get the clout they deserve for that effort most of the time. To my eye, the only things that Toyota has done lately (more than Honda at least, whose only new achievement in this segment is the apparently excellent Civic Type R) are develop this novel new transmission and finally put in Apple CarPlay. Hyundai/Kia is just the brand doing its homework, so they deserve their Stinger and Genesis dessert (An analogy I’m stealing from RCR’s Viper video). If nobody’s gonna check them out, they’re missing out on one of the best cars in the segment from a brand trying absolutely everything it can to draw in buyers.

With the anti-stall feature in the manual transmission, the car senses if you're "head banging to Nickleback" and applies more throttle even though you're light on the gas pedal. I guess that's a easy feature to develop since all cars today have a fly-by-wire gas pedal. No mechanical connection between the gas pedal and engine. And on other markets, you can get it with the Prius hybrid drivetrain. The only difference on the outside is a few badges. I think I would prefer that to a regular Prius.

@stephenhendricks1035 жыл бұрын
Looks like a solid effort, at least by Toyota standards. As far as styling is concerned, the rear spoiler is just silly. No one is going to mistake a Corolla for a Civic Type R. On the other hand, the overall look (and the interior design) doesn't look like it was lifted from a spaceship in a 1930's Buck Rogers serial. (Lookin' at you, Prius.) I'm not a CVT fan but Toyota seems to be joining the club of manufacturers trying to disguise CVT's as non-CVT's. In this case they've added a true first gear. What's next? Two real gears? Three? And ten artificial gears? Why not 15? Or twenty-five? Personally, I find this approach as annoying as fake exhaust outlets. If you're going with a CVT, own it! I am a hatchback fan. But according to Toyota's specs, the total cargo space (second row folded) in the Corolla is ridiculously small (23.3 cubic ft). That compares to 53.7 cubic feet in the VW Golf and even 35 cubic feet, or so, in the Hyundai Veloster. What's the point of a hatchback with such limited utility? Pricing seems a bit on the high side, especially since Toyota dealers aren't prone to offer substantial real world discounts. Apparently, Toyota is banking on customers to pony up a premium in return for Toyota's reputation for reliability and strong resale. They're probably on safe ground and they'll sell a boatload. I'm not in the market for a vehicle like this but if I were I can think of several better alternatives.

If this happens at higher speeds, it could increase the chance of a collision.........In order to remedy the issue, dealership technicians will replace the CVT in its entirety with a new CVT featuring a revised torque converter....Toyota is currently sourcing the parts for the recall.
